  1. I walked from Farringdon…takes 15-20 mins ish depending how fast you walk. But depends where you’re coming from if that’s an option … I can’t wait for Angel to reopen 😂
  2. I agree…I went to the matinee on Saturday. My friend loved the music and everyone around me seemed to also. For me it was really like nails on a chalkboard and it unfortunately ruined it. And I also didn’t really think the music lent itself very well to really being danced to, j think I didn’t really ‘get’ the piece but I was very distracted by his voice so could be that. I think the choreography itself was mostly nice, and I do really like most of Forsythe but it wasn’t for me. I really loved Playlist the first time round. I did really enjoy it again but I think I liked it better when it was the shorter work, it just seemed to pack more of a punch for me but I’m pleased I’m in the minority with that view and that everyone seemed to love it. Obviously all the dancers were amazing, goes without saying and it was great just seeing them 😊
  3. I’m 100% with you there…probably more chance McGregor will get another full length… I’m imagining a ballet version of Crime and punishment but it’s all sort of a concept and you can interpret the story in any way you want. And it’s in the dark 👍🏻
  4. It would be great if he commissioned new works every season and the new works were good… all subjective I know but I feel like we’ve suffered through a high volume of real stinkers over the last few years.
  5. I’m looking forward most to Sleeping Beauty. I’m pleased about Nutcracker, it is just a Christmas highlight for me so I never tire of it. Looking forward to seeing Cinderella- I’ve never seen Ashtons’ version. Mayerling is not my favourite but I prefer it over Manon although it all hangs on Rudolfs performance for me, I either get gripped by the drama of it or feel nothing so I’ll see what the casting is like. The mixed bills are not my cup of tea unfortunately. I will have to give them a miss
  6. Agree, it gets on my nerves and i would be really confused if I was trying to book a show for the first time and just wanted to see exactly what was available.
  7. Yeah I definitely do. I love Sadler’s wells and the coliseum as venues as much cheaper generally and you can actually see the stage well from most of the seats 😂 but ROH is where I feel comfiest!
  8. Yes…even when I was in my 20s and moved to London I actually missed out on quite a lot by not feeling like I could go it alone. But when I took the plunge I never looked back although I still sometimes feel a bit awkward at the intervals at sadlers wells but that’s just me. I always feel fine at the opera house though and there’s often other people on their own you get chatting to
  9. My ballet obsession came about via my love for lots of other types of dancing. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t drawn to watching dance - didn’t matter what the genre was I was glued to any dance film, musical, dance on tv. Tap, Latin, ballroom, salsa. Fred and Ginger etc. I never saw any ballet though as I don’t recall it ever being on the tv and I grew up in the 90s/early 2000s so it was a bit before YouTube. I never got taken to a performance of anything and I didn’t do any lessons as we had no money. My dance obsession continued through being a teenager and a young adult. BRB would tour not too far from where I lived and I would want to go every time but I didn’t know anyone with any interest in dance and certainly not ballet and I didn’t have the confidence being quite young to go alone. Then in around 2011 I was chatting with a colleague about theatre and we decided to go to Coppelia that BRB was touring. I really loved it and continued to go every time they toured near me. At that point I did love ballet but no more than any of the other dance forms I was interested in. The thing which elevated ballet into an obsession was a video on YouTube that got recommended to me of Natalia osipova and Ivan vasiliev talking about Don Q. They were at the bolshoi at the time and there was some clips of their performance. I thought it was amazing and when I was reading about them read that they had left the bolshoi for the Mikhailovsky and they were touring to the coliseum and would be performing Don Q. I travelled to see it and was absolutely blown away by it and the rest is history!
  10. Me either but it sounds amazing, I’d love to do it but I’ve never seen anything like that available before!
  11. Nightmare! Yes agreed, and be also logged into them all as my password is saved on chrome and not on Edge and that slowed me down as couldn’t remember it straight away!
  12. I totally agree, I’m sorry you didn’t get the seats you wanted 😟
  13. Yes, it was stressful as I really love A month in the country and wanted a good seat. I was using Chrome…it asked me if I wanted to use the new booking system and I said yes but I just got a blank loading screen. I went back and selected the old booking option and got straight in for the first date I wanted for Ashton and had no problem adding to basket. Went back for the second night I wanted but didn’t get the option to select what booking option i wanted and it just automatically started to use the new one which again was just a blank screen. Tried refreshing a few times which did nothing so I went back in with Microsoft Edge which (for once) worked great. I got the seats I wanted for the Ashtons and the other triple bill so I’m really happy but I think I just got lucky. So I’d definitely advise anyone booking to have a backup browser at the ready.
  14. Oh no, I’m sorry you also couldn’t make it either! I presumed Southampton was the only venue for next season but hopefully I’m wrong.
  15. I’m going to try and go to see it in Southampton if possible. I had an amazing seat for the coliseum then my show got cancelled. I rebooked and got a similarly great seat again, I was so excited to see it. Then I had a bit of a family emergency and couldn’t go. But I’ve lived vicariously through everyone’s posts on here so thank you all 😂
  16. Agree, I think the dance world is exploitative enough generally without not even getting paid for being a principal!! but anyway many congratulations to him and to Northern Ballet. Whenever I’ve seen him being interviewed I always got the feeling he’d be good as an AD or upper managerial position so really hope it works out. I will miss him a lot on stage though!
  17. Sounds very interesting, looking forward to watching it! I haven’t seen his company before and don’t know much about them so I was searching on YouTube and the official page for the Lincoln Centre has a full performance of Revelations from 2015 in case anyone is interested- I think it’s amazing! There’s also a video of the whole show with the other pieces they performed (also posted by the Lincoln Centre) but haven’t had time to watch that yet.
  18. Thanks for the heads up- I have now rebooked for the 20th using the offer as I was going to the 14th before. Really hope they get their week of performances. Feel so sorry for Tamara and the company- and for anyone trying to put any type of event on at the moment it is a logistical nightmare.
  19. It's one of my favourites too, would love to see it again. Cuthbertson/Ball would be great, I can also imagine Bracewell suiting the role really well.
  20. Love everyone's wish lists. For RB my wishlist would be Sleeping Beauty or Bayadere, La Fille and any Ashton 😃I'd also be a happy with resting Manon & Mayerling. I'd love to see Themes and Variations live. For BRB I know there's no chance but would love to see Still Life, Serenade, Carmina Burana. I know Hobson's Choice was done recently but I'd love to see it again. For ENB I'd love to see La Sylphide, Rite of Spring, Le Jeune Homme et la mort. I'd love the Bolshoi to do Etudes on a cinema broadcast. Of course, I'd mainly be happy with just a year of no closures as I'm sure everyone would be and I'd also be happy with anything that get's programmed that I haven't had the opportunity to see before (not new works...revivals I mean).
  21. Yes I saw the Osipova/Clarke cast and then Hayward/Campbell 😊 Osipova remains my absolutely favourite Giselle by far, I truly love her in this role but the Nagdhi/Ball connection was so strong and was the most believable romance of this run anyway (in my opinion of course). I would have loved to have seen more casts, I just love this ballet 😊
  22. I finally had time to watch the Giselle stream that I bought a while ago. I absolutely LOVED it- I actually went into it thinking I wasn't the biggest fan of either Ball or Naghdi and finished it with a dilemma as now I have another couple that I will really have to try and book for whenever they're paired together 😃 I thought they had a great connection and it all felt very believable, of course the dancing was great but it was acted so beautifully. I also loved Luca Acri's Hilarion- I think maybe it's my favourite portrayal of Hilarion I've ever seen- which sounds quite dramatic but I just loved everything about it 😃. I love Nunez as Myrtha, she's one of my favourite Myrtha's. I wish you could buy the stream to keep permanently...I wouldn't mind paying more...unless they're planning on a DVD but I'm thinking it doesn't seem likely as not long since we had a Giselle DVD. I've just bought the stream of the Dante Project so I'm off to watch that now...haven't watched anything I like by McGregor yet but I'm trying to keep an open mind 😃
  23. Happy birthday to the forum and thank you to the moderators who run it and all the contributors. I have learnt so much over the years just from reading on here and of course enjoyed myself at the same time too, it's a really valuable space especially for the ballet obsessed! I really appreciate the wide variety of points of view, opinions, thoughts etc. Here's to the next 10 years and thanks again 😀
