  1. Despite dd getting to finals she didn't get an offer of a place , but to be honest she wasn't even planning on auditioning ( and only tried Elmhurst) so I think I am more disappointed than she is. It has taken ma a few weeks to get my head round it all but her heart is on MT-it is amazing that at least when you know what your dc want you can 'move on'. Thanks to all those who have given me advice over discussing all the options with dd at this difficult (year 11) time xx
  2. What a lovely outcome-congratulations swe x
  3. hahahahaha...think I'll put dd's on there for £348.95!!!!
  4. Any news?? We are still waiting so beginning to think it must be a 'no'
  5. Does anyone know when Elmhurst likely to hear?-dd didn't seem to know thanks all
  6. Good luck Angel x Does anyone know when upper school results are out please? swe
  7. Good morning all. Just wondered if anyone knew of a way to dye pointe shoes (at home) I have no idea how much it would cost to have them done 'professionally' but I don't want a great expense. Any experience would be greatly appreciated. swe
  8. 'A womans' touch' from Calamity Jane or 'I can do without you' same show. swe
  9. Wow-congratulations all the 'yeses' and commiserations the 'nos'. Try to keep positive -it's only a 'no' THIS time x
  10. Hi all Thanks to Spanner we got the very same book a year or so ago-in hindsight I don't think she had enough energy to support the speed at which she was growing. She was skinny and tall and would look so pale after a dance class that I came onto the forum to seek help. We changed her diet (more protein/carbs) as even though she had a huge appetite, she probably wasn't eating the right stuff. Gosh I even made her eat liver once a fortnight!! She has now stopped growing (5 foot 8!!) and has started to fill out a little. She seems so much better and definitely doesn't come out of a class so wobbly. If it's your first child, you are still learning all the time! xx
  11. I think it is natural for any parent to feel upset for their children when they get knocks-and people react in lots of ways be in sad, angry, frustrated ...we've all been there. How lovely when you do get some good news-so well done dd of discouraged and keep your chin up. There may be disappointments long the way, but every so often good things are waiting round the corner. swe x
  12. Yes good luck from us too-enjoy the day swe and dd xx
  13. Hello all I have just pulled up this thread from a search on the ballet associates in Leicester and I just wondered if anyone had any further experience of the classes as we are looking at schemes for next year? Many thanks swe
  14. congratulations all ! swe x

    Core strength

I am far from an expert but I believe it is on-going. My dd worked very hard on core stability after being told it was such an intergral part of dancing and following a lot of work, achieved an RBS SA place. That said, her teacher there and at her other schools are continually keeping their eye on her posture and giving exercises to promote core strength. I don't think it is something to get to and then you've 'got it' if you see what I mean. A bit like a friend of mine who said 'well I had singing lessons a few years ago so I can sing'-no, training/technique/strength is on-going and Katherine Jenkins still has a singing coach and dancers will continually work on core strength in their lessons and lead up to performances on stage. Swe
  16. Does anyone know roughly when RBS upper school results are out? I think there is still another London date yet but they didn't make it clear at preliminary stage whether we would find out about finals after all the auditions were done. I assume it will be mid-feb but one of you knowledgeable lot are bound to know. Thanks x
  17. Sorry to hear about the 'no' letters-some of you will know we have had our share of those in the past but dd has kept trying and is enjoying some yeses now which is lovely-so don't give up if it's what you want!! Just had a yes to Elmhurst 6th form finals swe x
  18. Gosh we were at Elmhurst on Friday and I was sooo impressed! The principal was incredibly eloquent and had her feet firmly on the ground (academics and health as important as dance)-and not being terribly knowlegeable in ballet I couldn't believe how young Robert Parker was. So great to experience this modern way of thinking. Parents were made to feel very welcome, the tour of the school was great and dd thoroughly enjoyed audition -although a little squashed and slightly more trickier dance than RBS apparently-but nothing too extreme so don't panic if you haven't yet auditioned! Dd so enamoured that the has almost done a U-turn and is considering ballet at 16 over MT at 18. Still....having said all that, got to get through audition process first! Good luck everyone x
  19. Hello all, first audtions for dd for full-time school.....gulp. We have RBS and Elmhurst straight after Christmas hols, does anyone have any words of wisdom or experience they can share please? Thanks as always x
  20. Merry Christmas all, and thank you all so much for the advice I have had this year swe xx
  21. Yes-in the same boat as you BankruptMum-will ask dd's teacher tonight to see if she knows anything but I think it is unlikely we will make it this year-too much going on swe
  22. To be honest dd didn't say it was the unset work which is the difficult bit (she is used to this now) she is talking about the general syllabus. Put it this way, she will be taking ADV 1 in RAD in Spring and she won't be ready for ISTD until a year later!
