Mmm..when my dd was an associate and I heard about other dancers missing associate classes over festivals I always 'tut tutted'. and on several occasions I wouldn't allow her to do festivals and miss her associate class. Now that my daughter is no longer on the scheme and has decided on a different career path I look back and think 'why didn't I ask HER what she preferred instead of insisting she go to the class?'You may think this is easy to say given the position I am in, but there are lots of years of training in a dancer's life and the odd competition (if they love it) and indeed the odd party are probably more memorable in a child's life than an assoicate class. Just my view

I understand where you are coming from-my dd was RBS junior associate and tried every year for mids with no luck-in the end she made it as a Senior Associate which, given the odds was amazing. There is always something round the corner and I have continued to say to my dd that 'things happen for a reason'. Use every rejection as an opportunity-if her future doesn't happen to be as a dancer, she could end up doing something else really wonderful and then you can say-'just think, you may not have achieved this had you carried on with Scottish ballet Mids'! Wishing you luck Swe

My dd loves the classes with Graham Fletcher

Hi Honeybee Recommend Helen Eaton at Greetham Physio (near Stamford)-she is amazing with knees in particular! She and her husband have treated lots of 'names' in the sports world. She looked after dd with patella problems and a broken metatarsal. swe

Hello all Just wondered if anyone had any feedback on the summer school as we didn't make it this time, but they are offering an Easter school. I appreciate it was more jazz than ballet but any info greatly received. Thanks Swe

Hi Katymac-have spoken with Bodyworks and they say you need Grade5 ballet (they said RAD but dd is ADV 1 ISTD) So to be honest I am not that clear really-sounds like it may be ok but then from what Fiz has said the 'grade 5 thing' might be misleading mmm.. may have to think over it a bit more! Swe

Hi Fizz Yes it's the jazz course (a 4 day one). She is intermediate standard and will be moving into adv 1 so she does want something of a reasonable standard but I think it is difficult to judge standards before enrolling so I am glad I asked. I will give them a call maybe to clarify because I don't want a miserable dd and a thread-bare bank account!!

Does anyone have any experience of this please? Have visited their website and the college looks impressive. DD interested in one of the summer workshops but always great to have 'first-hand' insight! Thanks all Swe

If your child was having an 'off day' or unwell on the day of audition, whilst I agree the panel would have a good insight into the dancer's abitilties, this may affect the child's performance. You won't shine outside if you are not shining inside. As long as a child is happy to re-audition knowing they may still be refused a place, in my view, they should go for it. I hope your dd sparkles at summer school Taxi4ballet

Thank you so much-have just applied swe

It does say that you don't automatically get an audition this time-they will look at applications this time, so if you have auditioned before perhaps you may not get the chance again... do Elmhurst have a SWL or is it just a straight 'no'?

That's great-thanks Livingonaprayer x

Hi there Do you have to audition for the summer school? (I have seen it on your website). I was trying to get a feel for the standard of dance offered. Thanks -

We are also late off the mark in applying for Summer School (hi Fran!) This is because we hadn't booked hols . So we are looking for ballet or jazz (a mixture of both would be perfect) for the end of August-from 20th onwards. If anyone can recommend soemthing I would be grateful Swe x

Not sure if this is a strange question or not but we often hear of dc doing ballet school 16-18/19 then going on to MT courses for various reasons but I just wondered if those who go to places like Bird, Laines, LSC etc. ever get to join ballet companies or use their ballet skills much afterwards. I appreciate that they are not doing anywhere near the same level of training as ballet school so does the ballet training simply serve as a method for improving overall technique?
