  1. I have seen turning shoe horns and elastic stretchy bands at our school. I don't think DD is advanced enough for such devices but the puffy shoes where an eye opener.
  2. I mean that by the way. The girls with all this stuff....it's a bit intimidating!!
  3. No really what are the rolling pins for?!! It all looks FAB. I love this stuff. DD would look like..you know those knitted dolls that go over toilet rolls in your great aunts house.
  4. Partly springing from my first time audition circuit experiences and my DD's birthday which always heralds a plethora of ballet gifts..I've seen some things that I need explaining to me.. For her birthday DD was given....er....from a friend who "does ballet"... A pair of pale pink knitted shorts? These are to be worn when she feels a chill in this particular area and are "the thing". But...just shorts!!! Shorts=casual wear for hot weather...huh? Do we team with leg warmers then? Apparently the next step is an entire jumpsuit and I have seen one this month and it looked like it would take a lot of time to put on and be quite fragile and not at all easy to wash and prone to sag? But BALLETIC and therefore a mystery to me. I have also seen big puffy looking snow boots? Are these "Bloch booties" What's that all about? These are another article of clothing worn by people who seem to know about ballet. But the most mysterious item I've witnessed are small wooden rolling pins for feet. Does that....how does that help? Is that a stretchy thing? I would like to have all of these things and then we would feel very proper but I've no idea what any of them are for. I feel like Miranda "O' brave new world That has such people In't"
  5. Yes at all three auditions :-)
  6. I think the phrase "blood" and "stone" and "out of" applies to my DD's willingness to recount anything from her auditions but she has had to do a straddle stretch in each, leaning to the side to grasp ankle and on her tummy? I understand they are supposed to look spidery of limb in this position but DD always reminds me of a spatchcock chicken, torso being what it is.
  7. Thank you celandine, I like your name!
  8. DD had to do this at YDA but not at LJB or Tring auditions and she found it awkward and they had to position her as she's never done it before. However they did test sitting up and lying back too and I was wondering myself why? Does it show anything more revealing? Plus NO SPLITS AT ALL! Not for any of them! Only seen occur warming up in the waiting room! 5 months of pre bath stretches to get those splits and for nought....
  9. Thank you for the treat tip xx All interaction with Petalviolet hitherto on this forum must be couched in terms of "xxxxxx sage advice and then this is where you can find your next little snackle"
  10. Ah well that explains it we are rising eight! Well I'm not...I'm rising....never you mind... ;-)
  11. Er....i don't know how to break this to you new123 but if the last session is 3.00pm on Friday then that's us too? Umm....that could mean....er....I'm sure they are saving THE BEST TO LAST!!!! hahaha I don't think we should read too much into it (although I enjoy reading too much into it) ..oops postman just been and *squeak DD has a yes from YDA Associates!
  12. Just curious - not a big problem at all - bumped into the other auditioning mum today and she told me her DD's audition class will be same day but different time from ours (she morning and we afternoon) and wondered- as the audition email states that they generally select times/days around age and distance from venue- do they try and audition children from the same school together or like them to come separately or is it just chance? After all there could be many other DC from our area auditioning of course!?
  13. Just to let you know my DD is getting Perfect Piroutte for her birthday on Friday :-)
  14. Fantastic news! New York! How glamorous!! Xx
  15. I think I'm a bad influence as I have encouraged sensible and knowledgable posters to talk about cake and biscuits....I have lowered the tone...
  16. Oh my word DD would faint/explode. Now we really want to get in :-( tell me something bad. They don't have biscuits etc..
  17. I wonder if you gave them a call..you could ..NO WHAT AM I SAYING DD DOESNT NEED ANYMORE COMPETITION! Shoosh yourself PV shoosh......
  18. Southerndancemum have you tried YDA Associates in Shepherds Bush as that's a Saturday? You probably have but thought I'd mention. It's still quite a trot for us and we have an audition next Sunday purely for the experience again. I will report back on cake/biscuit findings of course.
  19. Just to say for benefit of anyone thinking of auditioning in future and reading this thread LJB aren't really harsh! A lovely lady with a clipboard even gave DD a little pep talk before she went in and I think took the time to talk to a few people. If their classes didn't clash with Tring we wouldn't give a second thought to applying again next year. Go for it!
  20. Peanut68 I like the way your mind works. I like.....the cut of your jib.
  21. Thank you! That's lovely. I'm not sure but I think it's probably just my ignorance that saves me...I just bumble into this without any idea of the reality of what it's like to have a serious investment, after all DD is only very little. Had she been upset I would have been in bits and that's a hurdle yet to come. We have to cross these bridges..first yes..first no....first no when you really wanted a yes.....first yes when you were sure it was a no..... You must have all been there!
  22. Oh lord after reading your experience I had to find out what time our no email was sent and would you believe it- but an hour after we left the building that was winging it's way to us? Half of me wants to laugh as there was someone stationed by the door on a laptop which seemed like an odd and noisy place to do work....but maybe they were just checking we had left the building first....got down the end of the road....and hit send! Hahahagahaha oh the humiliation! You want to know....you hate to know.....it's too slow.....it's too QUICK! Oh my poor wee one skipping down the corridor only to be booted out... LJB HARSH. WELL DONE for the Yes's as you have to toughen up don't you! Get knocked down, and right back up so particularly Coniger your son must be so pleased xx
  23. I will make a serious post in a minute and I do realise I mention food a lot on this BALLET forum ...but isn't the whole point of a doughnut the investigative procedure by which you eat it? Now which side is the jammy side.....could be here...could be there....if I bite this end do I risk jam expulsion where I can't see it? There an element of danger to every doughnut and he robbed me. It was nicely warmed though.
  24. Thank you! Think people need to hear the No's and well as the Yes's as it's all such a subjective mystery!!!!
