  1. Lots of "oh heck" moments in this thread now! Anjuli, I remember several days like the one you described. Sometimes I think it would be easier to retreat to bed, pull the covers over my head, and start afresh the next day. :-)
  2. I think that's vital Primrose, not least because hypermobile children can really struggle with propriorception. My dd has managed to come through her recent growth spurt thanks to her teacher realising that she needs to be completely hands-on with dd. I feel sorry for teachers who fear that getting hands on will get them into trouble. :-(
  3. Shame the MIDAS one clashes with EYB for us - maybe next year! :-)
  4. Amazing Julie! Well done! :-)
  5. Hello cbt1, welcome to the forum. Congrulations to your ds, and hugs to your dd!
  6. Having read both "Wicked" and "Son of a Witch" by Gregory Maguire, I have never yet been able to finish "A Lion among men", the third in the series. I found the first two reasonably entertaining, but actually preferred the storyline they'd used in the stage show. I ought to finish the wretched thing I suppose. :-(
  7. I said rather more than "oh heck" when - having forked out ridiculous amounts to keep the car going - our dishwasher died, and then yesterday the tumble dryer died too. In between my Mum phoning for the umpteenth time. :-/
  8. Oh, your poor dd Regattah! That's rotten! :-(
  9. Hmmm, that's interesting. As my dd started to get ill a couple of days before her I.F. I doubt she'd have been eligible for special consideration, because that read to me as if you are only eligible under illness if you come down with it on the actual day, or once the exam had started. Hey ho!
  10. That was concise and to the point, Stirrups! ;-)
  11. I haven't read that yet! :-)
  12. Thank you taxi. I think that whole thread got somewhat heated. I think there was something in the air! :-)
  13. Yes, always, to ease the students back into dance before the new term starts! :-)
  14. My dd started Contemporary at her Associate Scheme, which she started at 11. However, for the first year they studied "Creative" as opposed to Contemporary. They didn't start Contemporary until they were 12, nearly 13. Tring's excellent Contemporary "Days of Dance" have a minimum standard of RAD Grade 5 and above. Your teacher is right; a certain amount of physical and emotional maturity is required for Contemporary. :-)
  15. Enjoy! Hope everybody there has a lovely session. :-)
  16. Look out for crutches, big boobs and wavy brown hair - that'll be my husband! ;-) Just kidding, that'll be me!
  17. My dd did the LCB one last year and loved it! She's asked to do it again next year but her teacher wants her to apply for YBSS so we'll have to see. The journey wasn't great for us from East Herts to SW13 every day for LCB but it was a super week. :-)
  18. I wish it didn't clash with EYB this year. :-(( I can vouch for Mary's Rep. Classes - they're great fun! DD liked learning to be a Wili from Giselle, complete with veil! :-))
  19. A lot of summer schools are at the beginning of the holidays in my experience. Going on this year as a guide though, Elmhurst is 13th - 18th August, Central has 2; 13th - 18th and 13th -24th August (although next year they may revert to the last week of July). LCB's is even earlier than usual (being before academic school's have even broken up) and their course for younger girls is the first week of the holidays. Schools do seem to have moved their summer schools earlier or later to avoid the Olympics though. Your best bet may be to email them and ask if they can give you even a rough idea of next year's dates.
  20. It looks like a lovely summer school. Isn't Mary Goodhew there now? It might be worth emailing them if you haven't already.
  21. These skirts must have been flummoxing non-sewing parents for years! :-) It's a shame that RBS don't just commission an "approved" supplier to make them, like the RAD do with their character and long chiffon skirts. Just as well dd was never a JA; I dread to think what I'd have produced!
  22. Oh, how lovely! :-) I remember our whole class going to see "Annie" in London when I was in Primary School as my friend was one of the orphans. :-)
  23. My apologies, I should have said when mentioning my dd's "withering look" about taking certificates in that she's 13! I think it's a sweet idea when children are at Primary school. I think - if I remember rightly - that dd might have taken her Grade 2 certificates in. She wasn't presented with them again but she took them in as part of "show and tell". :-)
  24. No, really Fiz? My dd would give me one of her special withering looks if I even suggested such a thing! :-)
