  12. Get the kettle on full steam JA dad lol ..... Hope it's good news in there...... Well done to all the DCs with a yes especially belljul and sorry to the ones with a no this time ( we know what that is like in this house).
  13. Thanks afab I must have got mixed up when I was looking.
  14. I for one agree Tulip and have been very careful over the years with my two dd's not to place emphasis on weight. The only times I have ever weighed them is for application forms. You are quite right a muscular toned body will be heavier but look slimmer . Mum in a spin it was somewhere on the site when I was looking at Summer School from a previous thread .... I only looked at my dd's particulars she is 12 so it may not have gone any higher. Drama scientist this sounds quite extreme, from the info you give your dd sounds very slim ... What size do they expect them to be?
  15. The only trouble is Discouraged is that all these indicators weight, height, flexibility etc, are all subject to change as the student progresses. And when would be the correct time in a child or young persons training to apply such test at 11 when assertaining who should be MDS funded or at 16 or indeed 18 ? It was interesting to see that POB issued a table of height to weight ratio for their summer school . Even when told "they will never make it as a classical dancer" a young lady I know of has been offered 2 company contracts. This said I can see where you are coming from. I enjoyed reading the blog you posted originally but it came as no surprise. I personally do not like to see very thin sinewy ballet dancers and feel it also makes them look older than their years.
  16. I thought that's probably what you meant ..... I'm not in the habit of posting my thoughts on here, I usually stick to factual stuff , but I would imagine they do ..... I have heard all sorts of stories in the past of pupils being given full-time places out of the blue. The girl from Elmhurst would have been going into yr11.Ive no idea if she accepted it or not. But say hypothetically your dd was approached this year , as auditions are held in the year before entry in September ,it would be for a 6th form place.
  17. I'm not quite sure what you mean mum in a spin.
  18. My dd attended Elmhurst last year and one of the girls in the class above her was given a full time place , my dd said she was amazing. There is a question on the application forms for RBS and Elmhurst asking if you intend to apply for a full time place .... My dd also said the AD watched them through the window and he had some photos and was writing things down .. I wouldn't take this as gospel unless someone else's DC can confirm as I only get half a tale most of the time
  19. Fantastic Tulip what a wonderful opportunity. I can't wait to hear how she gets on! Keep us all posted!
  20. Hi Spannerandpony I've looked on several occasions at the Dance Days unfortunately they have always clashed with the girls being away . At some point my younger dd will hope to do the spring course. I'm sure with the funding the places at Central are going to be even more sort after. I have to concentrate on big sister getting a 6th form place at the moment. Big dd was at Elmhurst last summer and the BRB dancer that taught her had been to Central and he couldn't speak highly enough of the course there , sadly even he couldn't convince her to apply .... It's MT all the way
  21. Hi Balletbun I hope you don't think this question is too intrusive and knowing nothing of wether your dd is at her favourite chosen school, but have you thought about auditioning your dd at other schools in order to try and secure MDS funding . I too have found it hard to finance my elder dd through vocational school, like yourself it wasy choice and I would say yes it is all worth it!!! Well done to your dd Ecarte.
  22. Oh no! No wonder you don't want to go again. I cannot say anything in my defense except I can't resist a bargain
  23. When my younger dd auditioned the emphasis was more on performance rather than being classical or an all-rounder. Over the last few years they have had students go onto colleges such as Laine,Bird etc, The Bolshoi Academy and the top ballet schools so either route is a possibility. The dancers have always had a lot of vocal training as well as their dance lessons. You are right thinking there is no actual musical theatre course from yr7 but every other year they stage a full musical which the children yr 9 upwards participate in,this year it's Phantom of the Opera. I can't recall how many are usually on the initial auditions but I do remember at the funding audition there were around 25 children yr 7&8's .Children from older years didn't attend the funding audition but are still considered for MDS. Over the last few years I have known there to be as few as 7 MDS awards to as many as 15. I don't know how many are accepted at each audition. There will be an old thread about Hammond somewhere on the forum . Good Luck to your dd ,hope you both enjoy the day! Fab shopping for you at the nearby outlet
