  1. The lifestyle in different companies in different countries can be very different. And the feeling in a 'choreographer's company' different again to that in a repertory company. If a dancer is not promoted or 'liked' in one company that neither means that he/she is not a good dancer, nor that the profession is not for them - just that they need to seek the place where their dancing is appreciated, and where they can fulfil their ambitions.. "TIme out' for a ballet dancer is rarely feasible, although some with great facility can indulge in such. Three weeks holiday maximum should suffice to rest body and mind, and double check whether expressing themselves through dance is a necessity or a hardship.
  2. She may also be too young to know her own mind! An office job can be done any time and ballet dancers can easily transition into other work. Perhaps Royal Ballet was not the right company for her but to give up dancing at that age after all the years of work! VERY hard to pick up a dance career again if she finds she misses dancing after all - the hope would be if she does miss it and picks it up within one year, all might not be lost... However, if she prefers the office job, maybe she was one of those unfortunate children picked for physical aptitude in the first place like so many these days - rather then from any great desire to express herself through dance...
  3. There is no 'right' age for going on pointe. Some can do so at 9 years old - and some - never should!
  4. Just for information, The Australian Ballet has regularly been doing around 187 performances a year initially with 59 dancers, then 65, now I believe around 70 if that. Prior to 1981 they used to do more then 200, but from then this maximium number of 187 was imposed. However their repertoire is composed of long runs - 12 or 13 performances in Melbourne usually followed by 20 or 21 performances in Sydney, so there is not the problem of continually changing repertoire. One programme is rehearsed while the other is performed, and because of consecutive performances there is only need for new casts of the running programmes to be rehearsed.

  11. Yes, sadly Olesya Novikova and Leonid Sarafanov will not be performing La Sylphide in Rome at the end of this month, due to visa problems he has had. Dates of performances have been shifted due to this, and the good news is that Cuban guest artist Rolando Sarabia will be perrforming with Gaia Straccamore on the 28th May, and with guest Anais Chalendard on 30th May. Alessia Gay and Alessio Rezza will be dancing on 30th May and 1st June. Guest artist Friedemann Vogel from Stuttgart Ballet will perform with Anais Chalendard on 1st and 5th June, and with Gaia Straccamore on 4th June
  12. Anais will be dancing La Sylphide as a guest with the Rome Opera House, on 31st April and 4th June with Friedemann Vogel as well as the premiere on 28th April with Leonid Sarafanov, This is the Erik Bruhn production which is being restaged by Maina Gielgud
