  1. Hi all, my daughter had a dance show at the weekend and her ballet shoes are absolutely filthy. They’re white satin split sole and they’re now grey with big black marks all over them, the stage was disgusting. Is there anything I can do with them or are they just fit for the bin? They still fit and have only been worn a handful of times so would really like to save them if I can. Thanks everyone.
  2. Dd has just informed me that she is coming home on Friday with the tutu she will be wearing at the end of year show. It requires alteration to fit and thankfully I have a friend who can help with this (I am useless!) but it also apparently has make up marks on it and if possible, we are required to clean it. Baby wipes have been suggested but I have no idea if this is a good or bad idea! Any hints and tips for cleaning would be most welcome, please.
  3. My daughter danced on a stage which must have been painted black - her pointe shoes are absolutely wrecked. The platforms are now black and there are black smudges all over the box areas. I have tried baby wipes and bread but to be honest I don't think there is any hope for them. I have tried to cover it with calamine lotion, it isnt completely dry yet but it isnt looking good. Is there anything else I could try? Thanks for any help,
  4. Morning folks, Sunday Morning Project. It's show time and my daughters well loved Pointe Shoes are very black on the heel. Re-darned the toes so they look clean. Obviously unlike flats where we would just buy a new pair, this is just not practical with Pointes. How do I clean the heels? Calamine hasn't worked. Dress Rehearsal tomorrow EEK Thank you
  5. Is there any way to stop this? Or fix it? DD's school insist on socks, and after the first few washes they go grey and disreputable. They seem to be made of nylon, and I dimly remember in the days when everyone had nylon net curtains, my mother used to soak them in something or other. But whatever it is might turn her pink socks white, which wouldn't help!
  6. So DD has the show this week and her shoes (Gaynor Mindens) are a bit grotty with general ballet studio floor grime. What's a good way to get them looking vaguely presentable? We have various cleaning solvents at our disposal!!
  7. DD has a big part on her canvas ballet shoes (Bloch zenith stretch) that I'm not sure how got there. It was a little sticky at first however now it has got worse and just gone grayish blackish???? Does anyone know how to get rid of it?? PS I can't find White Vinegar anywhere Edited for typo
  8. I have a white practice tutu, and over the years of wearing it, it has started to look a bit grungy and more grey/brown than white. It has no embellishments, and no leotard body attached to it, and I was wondering how I should clean it? Some people have suggested dry cleaning...is that safe? Thanks in advance!
  9. I've just searched for other topics about it but I only found information about canvas shoes. Is it possible to wash leather shoes? And I don't mind the outside but smelly inside. Looooong time ago I used to buy new shoes for my DD only because her old one were small. Now she dances more hours per week and needs new shoes because the old one are a bit stinky. In her ballet school she needs to wear leather not canvas. Can I hand wash it? Any tips?
  10. I know many people use calamine lotion on pointe shoes - but has anyone ever tried it on pink leather shoes to make them look cleaner/prettier. Do you think it would stick or just flake off?
