BristolBillyBob Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) This is from an interview with Formula One overlord Bernie Ecclestone: Maybe if I tried it, I'd love ballet. I just can't understand the reason why they have these girls dancing on their toes. Why don't they get taller girls? It would be so much easier. Brilliant. BristolBillyBob Posted November 14, 2014 Author Posted November 14, 2014 On a side note, he also says: If I asked people who like ballet it they wanted to go to a Formula One race, they wouldn't particularly want to go. As someone who has been to four F1 grand prix weekends at Silverstone, I guess I must be the exception that proves the rule... 3
Pas de Quatre Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Not very original - that quote re taller girls comes from Morcambe & Wise, and possibly is even older! 2
Bruce Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Well if anybody knows about tall women it's Bernie From... "Q. When is Bernie Ecclestone taller than his wife? A. When he stands on his wallet" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/books/article-1362658/When-Bernie-Ecclestone-taller-wife-When-stands-wallet.html Edited November 14, 2014 by Bruce 5

Sim Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Me too....I have been to races, and back in the 80s I knew some dancers from the RB and we all used to go to motor races. Not sure whence his info comes.... 3
Mummykool Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 Maybe someone should introduce him to Steven McRae. OK that's drag racing rather than F1 but I'm sure he could put him right! 2
FrankH Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 The late great Russian ballerina Irina Baronova was an "avid follower" of F1 motor racing - she describes herself as such in her autobiography "Irina: Ballet, life and love." Bernie Ecclestone doesn't do his reputation any favours making these sorts of statements. Not that I suppose he cares. 3

I'd be more than happy to make those type of statements in abundance if I had his money! 1
alison Posted November 14, 2014 Posted November 14, 2014 As someone who has been to four F1 grand prix weekends at Silverstone, I guess I must be the exception that proves the rule... And there's at least one ROH regular who's a big motor-racing fan. 1
loveclassics Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 Me, for example. I used to spend my weekends marshalling at Brands Hatch and loved every minute of it. And I know of another ballet dancer (apart from McRae) who describes himself as a 'petrolhead'. Linda 2
