Yaffa Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Just saw that White Lodge will be in included in this year's Open House London and will be open to the public without charge from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on 21st and 22nd September. See: http://events.londonopenhouse.org/building/3214 There won't be any opportunity to see classes - just "entry to selected rooms on ground floor of main villa, White Lodge Museum, view of west front from garden." NB The WL Museum also has free entry (and a Park and Ride service from Sheen Gate) on other dates. See: http://www.royalballetschool.co.uk/wlm_visitor_info.php?s=3 Yaffa 1
Jan McNulty Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Thanks for letting us know Yaffa. I would love to have gone to WL if I had been in London.
Yaffa Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Thanks for letting us know Yaffa. I would love to have gone to WL if I had been in London. There's a similar event taking place elsewhere in the UK this weekend ('Heritage Open Days' - Thurs-Sun), with many buildings open to the public free of charge. From a quick look at the search facility at http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk/directory/advanced-search there are some interesting arts venues. For cheap ways of getting there, moneysavingexpert.com's page of train and coach deals can be a good place to start: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/cheap-coach-train-ticket-deals Yaffa 1
chrischris Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I didn't realise until recently that the queen lived in White Lodge as a child. I've walked past it numerous times but never been inside.
alison Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Presumably the RB Upper School won't be open this time, as there's a symposium going on. Any other dance out there? Jerwood Space and Siobhan Davies Studios have been known to participate in previous years.
Bruce Wall Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Both Jerwood and Davies facilities are listed in the Open City programme on line.
alison Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Sadler's Wells is doing guided tours at 10 am on both days, on a first-come basis.
