  1. Here is a lovely photo from Twitter Inter_Mezzo: https://twitter.com/inter_mezzo/status/304738574526459904/photo/1 And another from Andre Uspenski: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=147779382052667&set=a.147779272052678.35286.110186705811935&type=1&ref=nf
  2. Tonight was an amazing evening; the whole company upped its game, and Tamara and Sergei were absolutely wonderful. I so hope she will get him to come and dance with her at ENB...what a fabulous partnership this could have been. And yes DQ fan....there was an absolutely gorgeous flower throw; don't think I've ever seen so many; they just kept on coming. A truly special night. Hopefully Dave Morgan got some photos, but if not I'm sure other people did.
  3. A post has been removed for contravening our Acceptable Use Policy, details of which can be found here: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/417-the-balletcoforum-acceptable-use-policy/
  4. Sarah, this thread has been moved to the 'Doing Dance' section which is a more appropriate place. Welcome to the Forum!
  5. Interesting...I didn't like Guillem in it at all. She might have been fast, but she left me cold. Audience reaction is often muted when the curtain goes down on a tragedy...there is silence, then it starts slowly and builds. This always happens at the end of R&J, Manon and Mayerling. Onegin ends sadly but without a death. Voices has a happy, jaunty end which naturally spurs immediate applause. I don't think either type of response is a reflection of what the audience necessarily thinks of the dancers at first. Yuhui and Alexander thoroughly deserved their applause, they were wonderful!
  6. It was hyped while he was still here, but the recent hype has been about his departure and subsequent highly anticipated return to the RB. Comparisons with Nureyev are misguided; they are completely different dancers.
  7. I was going to type more or less the same views as Anna above, so I won't do it and be repetitive! ChrisChris, I think most of the hype has been about the fact that he was returning to the RB at all, not actually about his artistry or what his dancing and dramatic interpretation would be like. As a consequence, the beauty of his vastly matured dramatic and emotional depth knocked most of us for six. Of his technique there has never been any doubt. He has certainly grown and improved artistically in the past year. I never liked Marguerite and Armand, but when these two did it a couple of years ago, all of a sudden I liked it as they made it a different ballet. Last night they did the same....only they took it to a whole new level in all respects.
  8. Am still reeling from the total emotional draining I had from Rojo and Polunin's Marguerite and Armand. A truly sensational performance from them both. Will try and write more tomorrow!

  11. Hello all. On behalf of the BalletcoForum Committee I'm delighted to announce that we have just registered our 1000th member! We are so pleased to have reached this milestone in just over a year, and we would like to thank all of you for continuing to make this forum so vibrant and interesting. I would also like to extend a special thanks to John Mallinson, who does such a wonderful job in keeping spammers from registering and cluttering the Forum. Here's to the next 1000! Best wishes, Simonetta Dixon Chair BalletcoForum Committee
  12. I too will miss her loads. One of the RB's best ever MacMillan interpreters. Her partnership with Ed Watson in the MacMillan ballets gave me some of the most memorable times I've ever had in the ROH. Her Juliet was one of the most emotional and dramatic I've ever seen and reduced me to tears each time I saw her. Ditto her Mary Vetsera. I wish her love and happiness in her new life.
  13. That is already on my Christmas list, but there's no way I'll be waiting until Christmas for it!
  14. No, Lauren hasn't danced either role. I think she'd make a wonderful Tatiana. Her transformation from young, carefree girl in love to tragic heroine as Juliet is so very moving that it makes me weep buckets every time I see it! Am sure her Tatiana would be equally moving, dramatic and convincing.
  15. Having seen Reilly's wonderful interpretation of Onegin, I am fantasising that the RB will now poach him from Stuttgart. I think he would also make a great partner for Lauren...I can imagine them being dangerous and exciting together!
  16. Thanks folks...what a shame I never got to see her in that role...bet she was brilliant!
  17. "One for the collection, then; another memory to carry with the images of Marcia Haydée, Natalia Makarova and Tamara Rojo in the role;" This is a quote from the ballet critic Sarah Crompton in The Telegraph, in today's Links thread....a review of Marianela Nunez' Tatiana. Really? Rojo danced Tatiana? Have I missed something?! I know she was desperate to dance it but never got the chance.....if I'm wrong could someone please enlighten me as to when and where this happened? Certainly not in London I don't think!!
  18. Ann, Boomer is actually quoting Tours en l'Air! We can only hope that there will now be a sea change at the Bolshoi after this awful event, and now that the behind the scenes shenanigans have been brought to the world's notice.
  19. The first couple of times I saw David Trzensiemich's name he was St Nick. Sorry if I've spelled the name wrong....just an attempt as it's not in front of me!
  20. Aileen....yes, this was her debut. She has had a hip injury so that was probably bothering her. I fell over on Friday and broke my arm quite badly and had to miss yesterday's performance. I hope I can be there on the 7th for their last show. So meanwhile thanks for posting about it so I can live it through you all!
  21. Sorry to hear that, Spanner. Why not buy one or two online?! You've gotta be in it to win it!!
  22. To illustrate some of the comments above, everyone should read the critics' musings on the opening night of Onegin (see the links thread). There were six of them, all had been at the same performance, and all said completely different things about all aspects of the evening, from the dancers to the score to the conducting. That is why I never, ever listen to critics when deciding what to see, and also shows that we are all the same in that we have our own perceptions and opinions; there is absolutely no right or wrong, even for professional critics!
