  1. If you do decide to come I recommend Fisherman's Friends; they come in a small paper bag so once you've opened it you don't then need to open each sweet individually. Also, they are very effective!
  2. Another searing, emotional performance from Hayward and Campbell tonight. What a wonderful partnership they make. You can see the closeness, the empathy, the understanding of each other with every look, every touch and the abandon with which they dance together. That final pdd, with Campbell so hopeful and encouraging, and Hayward so physically broken with despair, was utterly heart-wrenching. Great performances too from Magri and Corrales. Their Coppelia should be joyous. But the night belonged especially to Francesca Hayward, whose intelligent and deeply emotional portrayal in both of her performances showed me that she is THE Manon of this generation, with Alexander Campbell a worthy partner for her. Huge thanks and congratulations to them both.
  3. The Osipova/Shklyarov Manons were among the most passionate I have ever seen. If we are never to get a reprise I have the memories indelibly stamped in my head and my heart.
  4. Well Yasmine Naghdi reminded us all tonight what we’ve been missing. Her return to the ROH stage after absence from injury heralded the most beautiful, emotional performance of the adagio in Concerto that I have yet seen. Sensitively partnered by Ryo Hirano, this was very special. She deserved the loud cheers she got. Welcome back Miss Naghdi!
  5. Gary Avis mentioned on social media that he was honoured to be making his Enigma debut in Derek Rencher’s tweed jacket. Avis is a very worthy custodian of this garment!
  6. I totally agree with your assessment BridieM. For me the highlight of the evening was Cuthbertson/Bonelli. Pure class.
  7. Welcome to the forum, Ingrid! We look forward to hearing more from you.
  8. Many thanks for all of these newsletters, Anna. I find them very interesting and a great source of information that is easily to hand. Please keep them coming!
  9. To quote the Baroness in the Sound of Music: Is there ANYTHING she can't do?!!
  10. I in turn agree with you, John. Morera has for the last decade at least been my 'unsung hero' of the RB. Such an accomplished dance actress, such strong technique, such dedication and a real company player. I just don't understand why she has never achieved the fame or recognition of other dancers, even though she doesn't do social media. Her interpretations in particular of MacMillan are virtually unsurpassed, and she is one of the few who can really dance Ashton IMHO (I am hoping Francesca Hayward and others will be putting this mantle around their shoulders). I will say again that my big regret for her and for us is that she never got the chance to dance Juliet.
  11. The thought occurred to me that last night's performance with Morera/Bonelli was a lovely, shining example of what happens when a partnership is allowed to develop and flourish for many years. A depth of physical and emotional empathy is achieved that just can't be equalled. Just a look that can say so much, just the slightest of touches that can feel so meaningful, a bit more physical risk because they know each other's capacities so well...these aspects all combine to produce something very special indeed. There are potentially some partnerships now at the RB that could attain these heights...if only they are allowed to establish and flourish. Here's hoping....
  12. Thanks for this information, Catherine, and welcome to the forum!
  13. Back to Manon...and what a beautifully emotional performance we had from Morera/Bonelli tonight. Two consummate artists in the twilight of their careers, bringing all the depth of their experience and their partnership to bear on this ballet. Truly remarkable.
  14. I think this is something good. Most of us don't get to see physically impaired/challenged people doing ballet class, and I for one am very pleased to know these things are going on, and in the ROH, too. Good for the RB.
  15. Sadly my daughter is unwell and can't come to Manon with me this evening. So I am selling SCS 45 (£9.00). I will be there to make the exchange (and the lucky person who buys it will be standing next to me!! ). This is the Morera/Bonelli cast. Please PM me if interested. Thanks.
  16. I think I might disagree there...all those quasi naked photos of himself that he posts up may cause his kiddies embarrassment one day! I wish him a full and quick recovery, although it's looking like it might be a good while before he is back onstage.
  17. Oh yes, I would definitely have said them too. I will never forget their Onegins. Ever.
  18. And regarding the lighting, I think the new lighting in Act 1 is appalling. It makes them look like they are in a circus ring. The spotlight is cold and metallic blue, and completely negates the romance happening in DG's yearning solo. The lighting should be warm, to enhance what is happening in their two young hearts. This makes DG's job in the first solo even more difficult: he is fighting the lighting, as well as trying not to wobble, and to convey his inner feelings to Manon and an audience of 2000...please, please revert to how it was before. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It wasn't broke before, but it sure is now. So please fix it!
  19. Although the casts all have something to give, I agree that if I could only see one, this would be it. Bonelli is wonderful as Onegin, and he and Naghdi danced beautifully together in Swan Lake. O'Sullivan and Sissens should be wonderful, too. And Bennet Gartside almost made me cry as Gremin; such a small role but he really did make the most of it, therefore making us understand one of the reasons why Tatiana doesn't capitulate to Onegin.
