Congratulations Pictures (I know I said it already) - I wasn't here at the start, but I'm really pleased to witness this next step in a long road! I really hope she enjoys it

DDs dance teacher has suggested Pilates & Yoga; she is supposed to alternate each day - but has to do them at least 4 times a week (if she can't manage every day) But she is working on core strength & flexibility

I'd be interested to know what they say as I had booked DD onto the Easter course & then it was cancelled (at the last minute). They have offered me this one (I assume - at the end of August) at a reduced rate - but I'm not sure if DD would keep up

Non auditioned/general summer schools
Katymac replied to Picturesinthefirelight's topic in Doing Dance
My DD really fancied the Watkin Dance Summer School; she had even arranged accommodation for herself And then she realised while it didn't clash with school or any of her lessons the Sunday is her next exam date - she is kicking herself and very glad she realised before she booked it She is a very keen (self-taught) African dancer and so rarely does 'African' dance turn up in more traditional classes so she is absolutely gutted! -
They are auditioning again at the moment

We haven't paid much for either of ours - one was completely free (travel & uniform paid for) the other is costing about £100 a team (12 lessons, well 11 plus a theatre trip)

DD's ballet teacher says she doesn't have enough pupil at DD's level. She feels DD needs to be at a class with lots of contemporaries so she doesn't become complacent. Also she beleives that children benefit from lots of teachers & encourages her pupils to attand any workshops/classes available. The travelling aspect has been important for us too - if DD goes to college I know she can get there safely & come home by train. Navigate the tube even if there are engineering works & safely get a taxi. Within 2 weeks of her new associate class months of work all slotted into place for her - which sadly brings up the fact that her first associate class didn't teach in a way that she could learn. So don't be afraid to give up if the associate programme isn't working for you. I had misgivings a year a ago Christmas & worked with the teachers to see if we could work it out; it was only a year later DD gave up - I think with hindsight we should have thrown in the towel in July. I guess all that means choose carefully and you can always change your mind

Tulip my DD loved this "My daughter loves getting corrections as she says it means the teacher is looking at you" She said I always knew it was good (getting corrections) but that gives me the words to explain why

I've read a bit on here about DVD Auditions and now a friend has been asked to provide one. I am the current technical genius of our group; but sadly my technical skill don't really run to video - I've only just learnt to edit music using 'Audacity' So any advise to a novice? Also why DVD? are there advantages (apart from geography/time) or disadvantages? pitfalls I must look out for or mistakes I can avoid? Thanks all

Cool - now I feel embarrassed Never mind

Does anyone know anything about Artistry Youth Dance?
Katymac replied to Katymac's topic in Doing Dance
DD is loving dancing with Artistry & we went to see Ballet Black at the weekend and it was fantastic -
OK that sounds OK then I think she normally splits Ballet & does Jazz & Tap together; I don't really know where Modern fits in that
-
DD's teacher is debating letting DD take her Grade 6 Ballet & Grade 5 Modern at the same exam session; she doesn't normally but has asked us what we think I know virtually nothing only been doing this a very short time & DD doesn't see why not Is there any reason not to?
-
Cleaner?? DD's points are grey & so are her tights
-
Oh DD does ISTD <phew>

You'rewelcome Can I ask? What is the difference between blocks and soft blocks (& is DD supposed to have both? faints at cost)

DD was 'noticed' as a ballet dancer at a station this week by a conductor/guard; who complimented her turnout I asked if she had been dancing - she said no, she was just stood in 5th
