  1. Not really booking just generally the website- it’s really not acceptable that the dancers list is so out of date. It’s not hard to update websites - I do it all the time!
  2. Oh Iestyn - what a star - remember you so well in both guises!
  3. Nothing much to add to these excellent points except that these things something come to a natural point for change - i remember a few years ago the Chinese dance in Nutcracker was met with some rather embarrassed laughter as the majority of the audience i think found it quite uncomfortable. So things will be amended but if we try and put our 21st century Western views on to beautiful creations from earlier times then where will it end! And i feel it's very patronising to assume the view of people from other cultural backgrounds whom, I am sure, can make up their own minds...
  4. Yes that was the one I was thinking of! And yes Diana so often came incognito
  5. oh gosh i can remember her name but not sure i should share it here!
  6. This has just reminded me of a rather eccentric regular audience member who did this. I won’t share the name although I suspect no longer with us but I wonder if it’s the same person!
  7. Oooh and anyone remember lovely Iestyn (madam galina) in the little cubbyhole in the main foyer? I have been reminded here of standing in floral street in the early morning waiting for the box office to open for on the days. And a dear friend doing it for me when I had not been successful in getting a ticket for a Ferri/Eagling R and J! Above and beyond ...
  8. Just apropos of nothing really except thinking of former days - can anyone enlighten me as to when RB most recently did wedding bouquet? Never forgotten Josephines teetering about! “Josephine may NOT attend the wedding!”
  9. Not sure if this is the appropriate place- but just really enjoyed Australian Ballet in Merry Widow on Sky Arts.
  10. The dusty amphi stairs with the board at the foot with little plastic letters announcing injuries though it used to say indisposed! adam and the other lovely ushers who had a kettle and would sometimes make us tea! Little secret places with dusty, hard sofas where we could gather to talk over the acts or ballets. I’m going back over 40 years which is CRAZY
  11. My family brewery- lost to us in 1936 - was known as the theatre brewers as they supplied every theatre in London including the opera houses! It’s such a rich history ... and evolving all the time.
  12. Return to the strange land - a Kylian piece that lives in my memory
  13. Gosh yes priority on the mailing list! My parents and I went twice to the Bolshoi on their return after so long. Spartacus with Mr M ...
  14. True but I suspect the camera crews and OB team did not have enough information in time to plot the filming. I’m being charitable and hoping they were caught on the hop - because if not the filming of that element was a shambles. It was as if they were desperately chasing about the various stages trying to get a handle on what was going on.
  15. Oh lord I wrote its not it’s and the predictive text changed it!
  16. Thanks Jenny - I also wondered about it’s staying power
  17. Remembering how princesses Margaret and Diana loved and supported our companies I hope another royal patron can be found. Glad the ballet is featured tonight though
  18. I remember Bertorelli opposite the stage door in floral street
  19. Just a few broad brush comments from me because I just sat back and enjoyed the spectacle to be honest. Really liked the score, especially the guitar element, overall reminiscent for me of West Side Story and Marquez as conducted by Dudamel. Dancing was gorgeous throughout, ravishing actually. The named characters came to life for me and I really cared about what happened to them, and the ensemble were so full of vim vigour and general joie de vivre. I did not entirely take to a few bits - the vengeful ghost of Elena, the much discussed horseback departure. But I direct for the stage at my local theatre and I can hardly get people on and off so who am I to criticise?! The narrative structure for me was somewhat fragmented here and there and some scenes achingly fast, over too soon, pulling me out of my reverie watching the lovely dancing and story unfold. More than a few times I was deeply moved and touched with tears in my eyes. I thought it was beautiful.
  20. Got to say Wheeldon gives these dancers some really exciting things to do! The company is so great such heart and soul from everyone
  21. There was! Great to hear it played in the House by the big band! Very impressive and most people stood
  22. No problem! I mean I’m not keen on Ondine, Prince of the Pagodas, Different Drummer ... I just think Ashton and Macmillan were both, as said, in another class, so original. I also love Cranko and Kylian. I’m very excited to see this tomorrow and really so appreciate everyone’s views and comments.
  23. Just musing on all the above and thinking we were pretty spoiled with Ashton and Macmillan tbh
