  1. Don't they hold some back for general release? Had a feeling they did for main stage though I may be mistaken.
  2. I'll give it a go I think - I do seem to have quite the taste for tragedy to I should be ok, I've often worried what that says about me 😂
  3. Thank you - my two favourite ballets are probably Manon and Mayerling so hopefully I won't find it too horrible!
  4. May I ask why people dislike Different Drummer? I've not seen it and can't find any videos...
  5. May be an expensive season for me, especially as all of the UK companies seem to have more than one thing I want to see, which is rare. I definitely want to see Nunez and Osipova in DonQ as not sure they'll be another opportunity. I adore the MacMillan 3 so happy to have them rotating every year, and they do usually sell well so I can't be the only one! Very excited for several Manons, especially Kaneko and Naghdi, very possibly Magri and O'Sullivan too. Probably attend Nutcracker and a few Swan Lakes, be interesting to see how last time's debuts are developing. And the mixed bills too; do think it's a bit of a cheat to have The Dream and Rhapsody in both Asthton's though... might just pick one.
  6. Amphitheatre R 67 £23 Please let me know if interested.
  7. Upper Circle A 20 (Restricted Legroom) £65.00 Please let me know if interested.
  8. Haha only just noticed this! Maybe why nobody wants it 😂 I'll repost and see if anyone fancies an evening performance instead! Thanks
  9. I have one Row R, Seat 67 | Amphitheatre £23 if you're still interested?
  10. Have advertised ticket for Monday's Friend Rehearsal if anyone's interested, a long way up but only £15. Have a lot of work on so really shouldn't be nipping off to the ballet... though I suppose if it doesn't sell I'll have to!
  11. Also regret not seeing her, do love her in Macmillan - quite glad to see Osipova though, I hate to admit I'm not usually her biggest fan but thought she was spectacular in this role. I thought all four Rudolfs I saw (Hirano, Muntagirov, Ball and Sambe) were extremely sympathetic, and for very different reasons. Very often been disappointed before as some dancers have seemed to really dislike (or misunderstand?) the character and just play him as some obnoxious madman with no redeeming qualities to the point I'm rather glad when he offs himself! This run has been really superb though, maybe some helpful coaching...? I am very excited for the next round.
  12. Unfortunately doesn't seem to exist - maybe we should petition ROH to record it, now would be a perfect opportunity as the orchestra are currently sounding absolutely phenomenal!
  13. Good question! I've seen four, and whilst I've found all of them spectacular my dream cast would probably be: Rudolf - Matthew Ball Mary Vetsera - Natalia Osipova (That one hardest to answer though) Larisch - Fumi Kaneko (This one definitely by far the easiest to answer) Stephanie - Anna Rose O'Sullivan Empress - Itziar Mendizabal Mitzi - Mayara Magri Louise - Leticia Dias Hungarian Officers - Happy so long as includes Reece Clarke! Fascinating how different everyone's answers are...
  14. I thought Sambe was fantastic, and got better and better as the evening wore on. Whilst his partnering was always strong I did feel some of the das de deux could have flowed slightly more but his tormented solos were outstanding – I really felt his turmoil and angst, like he wanted to crawl out of his own head! And the final pas de deux was absolutely wonderful, and I think actually the most secure that I’ve seen this run; those terrifying final lifts where all too often I’m out of the moment because I’m thinking how exhausted he looks or even worried he’ll drop her, thankfully tonight Hayward was definitely in safe hands. I enjoyed her Mary, especially in the card scene; she managed to come across as very young and excited. I’m not totally sold on the chemistry however, at least until that final scene. I really liked Lamb’s Larisch, obsessive and slightly unhinged - you could see why they would’ve been attracted! Increasingly desperate in her attempts to keep him interested her procuring Mary made sense which it doesn’t always, I don’t think most ‘normal’ women would arrange for their partners to have affairs with teenage girls however much they might want to maintain the relationship. Also loved Magri’s Mitzi and Medizabal’s Empress, both very well suited to their roles. Another night, another triumphant Rudolf. Looking forward to the next run!
  15. Very excited for feedback, going next week... Instagram pics look good and both Sambe and Hayward can certainly act! Very best of luck to them both, and of course to the whole cast.
  16. Bennet Gartside is who I had in mind when I wrote "genuine horror"; he seems a lovely man in reality of course, but that scene stuck in my mind - I was still having occasional flashbacks and shuddering for at least a couple of weeks after! That was with Melissa Hamilton, to be fair I have seen Manon many times and it hasn't always had quite such a profound effect as that particular evening.
  17. Think there were some young kids there on the Muntagirov night I went, though they seemed to disappear before the end - maybe their parents only realised as they were watching that this was no Nutcracker! I would've been I think 13 or 14 when I saw it for the first time - on the BBC with Mukhamedov and Durante - and I fell in love with it. It didn't occur to my parents to check whether a ballet would be age appropriate! It was very many years before I actually saw it live, and I'm still very much in love with it and find something new on every visit. I think I find it darker now than I did as I maybe didn't really understand much, and not just in the ballet itself but of the reality it represents. I personally find Manon a lot bleaker, and again the older I get and the more I understand that these events (violence, prostitution, rape, transportation etc) actually happened to real women the more I find it affects me. I've felt a genuine horror at the Act III gaoler scene which I've not felt from Mayerling. I would say neither are at all suitable for children!
  18. I got chatting to a girl who was there on the 'Young ROH' scheme (she'd paid £25 for her ticket, I'd paid £131 for mine which made me feel a bit sick 😂) and this was her first ballet... by the second interval she said she was unfortunately completely lost, though was enjoying it. I did say I wasn't sure it was necessarily the best first ballet, there's just so much going on and the ROH synopsis isn't very detailed - they never mention the Hungarian officers or what the point of them is for example, she thought they were just his mates mucking around! I said I did hope she'd try again and she promised me she would, I advised R&J or a classical.
  19. Wonderful pictures, and not too bad a view really - and a very good view of the audience, must be very obvious when people (like me) are gawping up at you!
  20. Ah, answered my own question: "If you look at the second box from the stage on the second level, you have spotted the Royal Box. Apparently Prince Charles attends the ROH quite often, and I can see why; the Royal Box has a sitting room, a dining room, a kitchen (with a butler), and a private staircase." Royal Opera House Tour | An Historian About Town Maybe they were rushing off to have their dinner!
  21. A wonderful performance from all, Ball and Naghdi worked beautifully together and the Act I pdd with O'Sullivan was very well done, and so very difficult to watch! Found the whole evening very moving, Ball really was astonishing - the Act II pdd with Mary has to be one of the best I've seen, and his Act III had me in tears. Fabulous all round. And yep, Charles and Camilla were there, though they can't have had much of a view? Don't think they were too keen on being noticed, they snuck in and out of the box very quickly at each interval! We were wondering where they went? Were they in the Paul Hamlyn Hall or do they have their own area? Was in stalls so didn't mingle with the elite today!
  22. Mine says Fumi? And that's who was advertised - and who I'm very much looking forward to seeing so hopefully it's her!
  23. They'll presumably continue doing the classics for a few years at least - I'm actually grateful that there's usually only two or three productions a year I'm interested in, I think I get more out of seeing several casts in one production than one cast in many. It would be nice if there seemed to be something more palatable (to me) on the horizon but I'm happy enough seeing the same handful over and over! The worry for me is that the Royal Ballet don't really seem very keen on ballet, but maybe I read too much into it.
