My dd has registered with Alison online courses. These are free and offer a wide range of subjects. They are not recognised by unis but they are enough to keep up to date with necessary knowledge. I'm sure with obtaining their dance degrees with these supplementary courses they will be considered for future degrees if required instead of having A levels. They also have the advantage of being in bite size chunks so can be studied whenever they have some free time.

I'm sure your dd will have a suitable leotard in her collection. She just needs a plain black nothing fancy one.

My dd wore a Bloch leotard and none of the girls wore RBS bottoms or zip up sweatshirts.

Perhaps they act as a travel agent specialising in dance courses?

Tinker don't let the forum give you sleepless nights. Look at the time of your post ? I was character assassinated when I first joined the forum so I know how you feel. Words are interpreted differently to how you meant them to sound. I'm fed up reading the no now maybe a yes later but actually it's true. Against the odds my dd was awarded a place at 6th vocational school after 2 rejections. The forum can be very therapeutic and overall is positive but occasionally we will receive negative ones. Dust yourself down and reflect. It is the most frustrating time waiting for results and no one can tell you what they are looking for. The process of audition needs to be changed. Perhaps through a weekend workshop because these dc's need to relax and show them what they can really do. Fingers crossed ????

Can I thank everyone for your valuable input. At the moment my dd is thinking of doing PE which would complement the dance course. If my dd gets injured and cannot follow her dream then her alternative career path would be physiotherapy/ dance therapist. Does anyone know of any courses that would be recognised and considered for entry onto these courses that are not A levels and could be studied at leisure ?

I've researched a few companies but I didn't know if they were any good. Is it possible to buy the books for a chosen topic then perhaps find a weekly personal tutor?

Does anyone have experience of studying A levels online ?

Sorry if I have offended anyone. Decisions are difficult but they have to made at some point.

My dd has been an RBS associate for the last 8 years and I've noticed that there are more and more associate programmes on offer compared to when she started. From my dds experience she had the opportunity to dance in beautiful studios compared to the converted room in a house. She learnt her way around London using the trains and underground. She has had the input from numerous teachers. It gives them an insight into another world. It increases their confidence so that my dd can travel to London on her own at 15 and in 3 months time she will be moving to and living in London independently at 16!

I totally agree Tulip this is a very important decision but it has to be made. The results were out 8 weeks ago. I have a friend who has a dd going to Scotland and my dd is going to Central in September. In the last few weeks I have arranged & visited accommodation, researched online A levels and returned the appropriate forms that needed to be returned by the 31st May. If I had been in your situation I would have revisited both schools and perhaps arranged a trial day and then let my dd decide where she wanted to go There maybe someones dd out there whose ONLY offer of a place is on the Waiting List , who is having to cope with the pressure of taking their GCSE's and who is probably praying every night for that place to be offered. Please make your decision soon and make someones dds dream come true.

A levels can be continued as an online course at either school with online tutors. This indecision is preventing someone from being offered a place at either school.

How to sew those ribbons on correctly. It still takes a few adjustments????

I was just wondering what are the dd's going to do that have been unable to accept their offer of places at vocational schools. Are they going to look for private training then re-audition next year for schools that offer student loans?

They could look through the videos they took during the auditions again in case they had missed anything first time around.

Leotard minimum 3 x £19 = £57 Unitard minimum 2 x £30 = £60 Pink tights minimum 6 x £8 = £48 Tracksuit £40 Classical tutu = £170 Romantic tutu skirt = £40 Above all must be ordered through the school ( Total = £415 ) plus 1 pair canvas split sole shoes = £9.95 2 pairs pointe shoes for start of term = £0 but once advice on correct fitting 10 (ten) pairs recommended approx £400 1 Bloch short wrap round skirt = £13.95 So it is actually more than £500. Hopefully it will all last the 2-3 years! I knew there were going to be other costs but you don't think about it until the bill arrives on your doorstep. There should be transparency so parents know exactly what costs are involved before committing to this adventure. There are scholarships available for those on low income.
