I would be interested to know how many are still waiting to hear if they have an offer of a place or how many have 2 offers and haven't decided.

Can someone explain why EU students only pay £1820 tuition fees?

Mum in a spin you were correct in your assumption regarding Central. Those offered places have access to student finance and there is also a Conservatoire Scholarship Scheme which supports those on low income. Additional costs hidden include BUPA £717 per year , Resource fee £120 , uniform £500

My friend's dd has a place at the Conservatoire starting this September. Not knowing much about it I've looked at the website and it has a lot going for it compared with the schools in London. The tuition fees for Scottish and EU residents ( not English, Welsh or N. Irish known as the Rest of the UK (RUK ) are £1820 per year compared with £9000 for the RUK. Accommodation is cheaper, a single en-suite room is £5508 per year compared with the same in London at £11322. The course works very closely with Scottish Ballet and the students have many opportunities to perform. If my dd was Scottish then we would find it very hard to turn it down due to the massive savings in fees. That saving would buy rather a lot of pointe shoes Did you know they are still accepting applications for this September 2013.

Did you know Rio Ferdinand had a scholarship to Central at 11 and stayed for 4 years before concentrating on his football. There is a similarity between football and ballet drdance.

Does anyone have any experience regarding the study of A levels online?

Just received dd's information pack for her new school. It did make me smile . No one ever tells you about those hidden costs up front. It's a bit like childbirth. There's no turning back!

Thanks Spooky, that was the purpose of my original emails. She's just been offered a place at Hyelm which will probably be the most suitable to start with. It has a great number of 16-17 year olds living there along with a lot of support. I realise it is a bit of a hike in the mornings but we can do some practise runs with the tubes and buses beforehand and I was particularly keen for food to be available otherwise she will just eat rubbish!

I emailed Unite Students accommodation yesterday enquiring whether that had any availability for my dd when she goes to Central in Sept. Their reply was that they could offer her a place within New Medlock House. Fantastic I replied however I think it is rather a long way for her to commute every morning

It is very obvious that each school is looking for something different. It would be nice for them to publish their requirements. I'm not saying being an SA deserves a place. It is their dedication and passion deserves the reward.

My dd returned from her SA lesson at the RBS feeling sad as a number of girls are on WLs for various schools. Lets hope they get their deserved places.

Thank you for so much support for my dd. What I'm really looking forward to is watching her grow. As I've said before her success has been achieved on minimal training per week ( 6hrs) and she has never attended any summer schools. She has so much room to improve. It will be really difficult at first, but once she gets into the swing of things the transformation will be exciting.

My dd has been offered a place. We would much appreciate contact with anyone starting September to discuss accommodation etc as this our main concern.

I will pass on all of your congratulations to my dd. She has finally gone to bed so hopefully won't be too jet-lagged. It still bemuses me that she has succeeded on this occasion but failed to get through the first round at previous auditions. It makes no sense. I'd prepared myself for her not to get a place so this came as a pleasant surprise. My next concern is my dd moving to and living in London at such a young age. Any advice would be warmly welcome! x

My dd has finally returned from her school trip. I can now reveal that 2 weeks ago she was offered a place at Central. It was so good to give her a big hug and celebrate! Time to change my username.

I hear results for Central are out today! My dd is away and we go away this Sunday so not sure when we will find out.

Very interesting question To The pointe. We were discussing this precise question yesterday at the Central Audition. I would call that Falling at the Starting Line. How significant are those audition photographs?

Just got back home after a very slow train journey due to signalling failure. Dd did her best and I had a very enjoyable couple of hours with fellow parents. This has inspired me to compile a book on The Experiences of Parents within the Dance World. If anyone has any advice, anecdotes, tips, the luxury of hindsight etc, then please PM me with any contributions.
