  1. Please could you clarify … is it the same programme for all the Autumn dates?
  2. Interesting to look at the soloist group. I see quite a few who have already performed full-length lead roles and are at another level of experience and capability compared to others in this rank … Buvoli, Dias, Ella, M.Sasaki in particular.
  3. An error is an error. Why can’t they just be honest and apologise. We’d have more respect. This kind of ‘fudging’ is a reflection of senior management attitude, which does not fill me with confidence.
  4. Some supporting cast info https://www.instagram.com/p/CuUkvp4hVJD/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Hirano - Tybalt Acri - Mercutio Sissens - Benvolio Harlots - Hinkis, Lubach, Dias Ikarashi - Mandolin
  5. I’m surprised Ksenia Shevtsova is not joining as principal in Münich. She is a principal in Stanislavsky. She was promoted there by Laurent Hilaire in 2019. She is also known to the Münich audience for stepping in cold and unrehearsed to the final act of a Mayerling performance there in 2017 to partner Sergei Polunin when Natalia Somova was injured and couldn’t continue. Ksenia is a lovely classical ballerina strong in everything, superb in ballets like Manon, Giselle, La Sylphide. I’m also surprised that Zhanna Gubanova joins in the corps. She’s been a leading soloist (rank below principal) at Stanislavsky since 2016, after graduating from the Kiev School in 2014. She comes from Crimea. She has a really strong technique … equivalent to Claire Calvert, Julia Conway level. I will expect early promotions at Münich for these two. Zachary Rogers was also at the Stanislavsky under Laurent Hilaire where he performed Nutcracker prince and James in La Sylphide. He’s Canadian. He’d be great as Jack in Wheeldon’s Alice which is in Münich rep.
  6. @annamk yes I’ve been very lucky to see him as Rothbart, Siegfried and Dorian in the last 3 months. (Only Siegfried was planned the others were late cast changes. Lucky me!) He is a very exciting dancer! His ballet technique is not as refined as it could be, as I believe he came later to ballet, from a background of traditional folk Georgian dancing. He has overly muscular thighs and poorly pointed feet. However the height of his jumps and his passion for dance are phenomenal. I hope he can improve his pure ballet technique as he is still young. He has an awesome on-stage chemistry with Dutch National prima ballerina Anna Tsygankova 👏
  7. Alina is dancing mostly with very tall men this coming month … Reece Clarke in Georgia, Edvin Revazov in Hamburg, Jacopo Tissi in Italy !!!

  9. Sadly where the ROH management is concerned, only money talks.
  10. The Glass Menagerie is next on stage in Hamburg in May 2024 Casting is not usually announced in Hamburg until a few weeks in advance. https://www.hamburgballett.de/en/schedule/event.php?AuffNr=196297 A review by Maggie Foyer from the premiere in December 2019 https://www.seeingdance.com/hamburg-ballet-glass-menagerie-17122019/
  11. Alina performed Neumeier’s The Glass Menagerie last night as part of the Hamburg Ballet days (a festival of ballet which lasts a month). It’s an extraordinary dramatic ballet of Tennessee William’s memory play. The story is heartbreaking throughout and the ending rips your heart out as she snuffs out each candle on a candlestick holder one-by-one … to end in darkness. Alina gets to dance with a modified shoe over one pointe shoe for much of the ballet. Super movement creation to depict her character’s disability and her emotional journey.
  12. @BalletcoForum Moderators please could we change the title to Olga Smirnova now at Dutch National or similar … each time I see the start “Olga leaving etc” I think it’s new news that’s she’s on the move again!
  13. @NiniGabriel please don’t transcribe/translate for me. Thank you so much for offering. I know it’s a big task. I’m perfectly happy with the ‘google transcribe’ feature. My purpose in mentioning it was to make others aware of this tool.
  14. @NiniGabriel thank you so much for this link to the 1965 programme. I was mesmerised despite understanding only some of it. I will watch again using ‘google transcribe’ feature on the Google Translate app, which translates speech into text. It’s not perfect but gives me the gist.
  15. It is concerning that there are no new hires from any school. That seems odd for any company … perhaps there are plans for an ENB2 in future.
  16. Thank you for the link … interesting to watch this. From what ASW says, he’s clearly been around a lot watching class, rehearsals and performances. And there seem to me to be more promotions compared to recent years. I’m glad he’s negotiated the money to do all these, plus bring in new dancers at soloist and principal level. It’s a good sign.
  17. Hmm I prefer to give the new AD a few seasons at the helm before criticising. I’m personally really looking forward to AK Giselle later this year and Swan Lake in the round next year. I usually go to at least one show of every production they do (except Nutcracker) to see a wider range of their rep and the dancers. There’s a lot for the new AD to take on. Finances are presumably still shaky after devastating effects of Covid. Also there is increasing competition from BRB and NB performing in London as well as touring. Hooray … this is a good thing for cities with no home company. Plus there were considerable gaps at principal level with Rojo, Cojocaru, Hernandez, Cirio and Caley all leaving since Covid. Erina Takahashi and Fernanda Oliver are both in their 40s so won’t be around for many more years. (If it was Paris Opera they’d both be out). So there are going to be promotion opportunities for the current soloist male and female dancers soon. 🤞
  18. there is video of Alina and Johan Kobborg in the final scene from Onegin on Johan’s Vimeo channel https://vimeo.com/189960591
  19. The performances are at Sadler’s Wells on 8 and 9 July https://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/english-national-ballet-school/
  20. I wonder if other national theatres suffer this amount of technical trouble with booking systems? 🤔
  21. I think you’ll be missing out if you only go for Frola. She looks stunning and Gareth is only just tall enough for her.
  22. @Dawnstar My guess is Gareth Haw … here they are together https://www.instagram.com/p/CtBKGXAIzCy/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== He has also partnered Melissa Hamilton https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj8eyc1IAOI/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
