  1. I suggest to open a new thread for this event, otherwise it can be overlooked, with a thread header Prix de Lausanne.
  2. I watched the finals yesterday and was a bit surprised about the prize winners "ranking". Paloma did stand out for me with her contemporary piece (smooth, sexy, fluid) more than with the classical. Not because the classical variation (Gamzatti) was "bad" but because it didn't give her much chance to express herself, I noticed that only with a wink of her hand. Since sooo many finalists had chosen "do you care?" as their contemporary piece, it bored me a bit. Some people complained that M. Mcintire (from the US, and a well-known prize winner there) was not even among the finalists. From my point of view, she has a good technique but obviously her teachers told her to include some "acrobatic" moves, rather than focus on artistic expression. And the jury did not approve. To me her classical variation (La Esmeralda) didn't look like a dance at all, it was more about a calculated step by step variation and acrobatic leg poses. Where was the passion? Sad. A junior dancer from Japan (207, Taichi Toshidi) who won scholarship no. 9 was on my "😁list" from the beginning and was the exact opposite. Jumping onstage with such a bravado and energy for his "La fille mal gardee" variation, it was pure joy to see him dance. He DANCES was my first note about him, during coaching. Bravo. Overall, I missed a stand out talent in both categories. I support the idea of either doing a male/female competition (this would be my first thing to change if I had a say about it). Or junior/senior competition. Although some Juniors make it into the finals, it seems a bit unfair to compete as a junior against people with longer education and more experience.
  3. Paloma catched my eye from day 1. It's just this quality that cannot be overlooked. Académie Princesse Grace is such a good school, and this year, after a break, they have 3 finalists in this competition. Good Luck to all of the finalists!

  5. I just chime in from work watching a bit the selection day. Oy, some junior boys struggled with finishing their classical variation. 2 sat down, 2 screwed it as well. The nerves🙈

  9. I'm happy that you enjoyed the shows in Munich! My guess was that Lauretta Summerscales is a great Tatjana. I hope to in April. The costumes are made by the one and only Jürgen Rose, whatever he touched turns "gold". See in Berlin the "Sleeping Beauty" costumes and setting. A legend, 86 years now and I hope he has/had a lot of apprentices over the years🙏🙏🙏
  10. Maybe I read this wrong but Lucia Lacarra is not with Bavarian State Ballet anymore since a couple years, and James Pett is not a dancer at Staatsballett Berlin. You can call me picky, ok. 😃

I've seen Onegin twice in Berlin, where Tatjana and Onegin were danced by couples in real life: Iana Salenko/Marian Walter and Elisa Cabrera/Mikhail Kaniskin, and the latter couple broke my heart. So I'm looking forward to see Onegin in Munich, I would love to see Lauretta Summerscales as Tatjana and Shale Wagman as Lensky, but I'm not sure about a good Onegin in Munich. Aside from this, I'm excited for the upcoming Forsythe evening (Approximate Sonata 2016, One Flat Thing, reproduced and Blake Works 1) and the evening with "Angel's Atlas" and "Overture" by Marcos Moreau resp. Crystal Pite. On July 7, we will have a Birthday Gala for 20 years Staatsballett Berlin. Before and after the Gala, we will see Giselle and Messa da Requiem. A sad note: Giselle and Sleeping Beauty are the only classical ballets still danced here. I fear for the next season...🤔
  12. I was also very touched by the dancer/choreographer support on social media. After all, it is a relative small community and they stick together when in need❤️. There is an ongoing police investigation, so maybe details follow later. Anyway: she is alive!❤️

  16. I don't know if it's appropriate to post here, but I'll do it anyway. I saw this posted on Alina Cojocaru's Instagram Story, so it's serious. It has been shared by other dancers (e.g. Johan Kobborg). Maybe sharing this here helps, who knows...Lin is a corps member of Hamburg Ballet and a previous prize winner of Prix de Lausanne. My favorite Giselle! I hope she is found soon🙏🙏
  17. This confused me a bit. On instagram someone asked about cast and performance date for this VOD, and the ig team for Bavarian State Ballet answered "from 2nd and 3rd performance after the premiere". Well the bows were obviously from the premiere night. Prisca Zeisel and Matteo Dilaghi were King and Queen, Bianca Teixeira was Ophelia, if I'm right.
  18. Shale Wagman was just PERFECT for this role. His artistry is just shown in every single movement and facial expression. I was very sceptical about the combination of Opera singers and a ballet dancer onstage, I thought the singers would distract from the dancing. But no, of course Mr. Wagman owns the stage, and singers and dancer complemented each other. The beautiful music did the "rest". Little Antonio Casalinho was a whirlwind. I also liked Osiel Gouneo as Hamlet, although he seemed to have lost a bit stamina in the end, just like Yonah Acosta. I cannot say much about Julian Mackay, he didn't have much solo time and the choreo made it difficult to see the main roles of R&J stand out. Altogether I found the choreography a bit repetitive in movements, and although the host in the introduction said that it isn't a narrative ballet, the stories did show up, or were altered. Which was a bit strange imo. I have to see this live!
  19. It's not a narrative ballet, but consists of some pieces. The "Tchaikovsky spirit" I mentioned (danced by Shale Wagman) is the "bracket" around the pieces. Even 2 Opera singers appear and accompany Tchaikovsky - or is it vice versa? I look forward to the stream. I had a ticket for last October but fell I'll..
