  1. When DD joined in year 6 I think maybe there were 6 that joined with her so @Waverleyis correct that there isn’t a set number of places that appear year to year it can change depending on Centre and also group size. if you don’t get in in year 4, keep working hard and keep trying 🙂, we did! good luck to you all, DD has had a wonderful year.

  2. @Balletbuds80 to offer up our experience, DD always wanted to go to ballet school, one school in particular (although we applied to four). It was a real rollercoaster for us, we ultimately ended it with three offers, including finally the one she had said she wanted to go to (although this story in itself wasn’t straight forward, it’s too long winded for here but happy to discuss in more detail if you wanted to DM me).  When it came to it, she simply changed her mind. She has chosen a school here at home and she is really happy.

As a couple of posters have said, she still loves ballet and wants to carry on (and was lucky enough to get a RBS mids place) but wants to try other things as well and stay at home. It was honestly a complete turnaround, but ultimately her choice. It has to be led by them - we have friends who are going who are absolutely certain and so excited to be going and you can see it’s absolutely right for them too. It basically comes down to your own situation and child and looking at other peoples outcomes and experiences isn’t always what is going to happen to your own journey.

my advice would be if she wants to - apply, go to the auditions, see what happens, go to open days, get a feel for the schools and see what happens.  As a poster says above until you get the offer letter you never quite know what will happen but you also won’t know unless you try. 🙂

also maybe get a wine subscription 😅.

  3. I watched an interview on BBC breakfast a few months ago about a scheme set up for children partaking in football academy schemes to help their mental health and commented to my husband at the time the parallels with the dance world. Interesting this article has come out this week as I referenced the above interview the other day in a discussion with a friend about the parallels of football and ballet.  interesting article, thank you for sharing! x

@AstridI asked if socks were acceptable as that’s what my pupil normally wore (before JAs asked for tights) and they said either is fine. I have sent another email asking if socks or ballet shoes would be acceptable instead of jazz shoes as she doesn’t have any and it seems a bit bonkers buying a pair for a one hour class. I’ll let you know the answer.

Oh you superstar that’s great, saves me asking thank you! We wore socks to RBS but wondered if anyone else was..we have jazz shoes so we are ok there..although, not jazz pants? Was going to send her with the black shorts she wears for jazz..🤔

    Hello

    The audition info says:

Girls are requested to wear plain leotard, pink ballet tights, and usual ballet shoes. For the modern section please bring jazz shoes or jazz trainers and a pair of jazz pants if available. Hair should be neat and appropriate for the course they are auditioning for and off the face.

Ah thank you so much, had seen this, but I wondered if we could still wear socks anyway as she prefers them..wondered if anyone else was going to do that 🙈

  7. I have the following for sale:

Degas, not sure of style number..light blue tank style with really pretty mesh trim, size 10a   £20 inc P&P

Degas white Lycra 9502..says 12a but I would say this is more like a 10a (it doesn’t fit my daughter like her other 12as for some reason 🤷🏼‍♀️) £20 inc P&P

Wear Moi French blue size 8-10 cami straps..£8 inc P&P

I was just coming on here to say exactly that! 😊

I noticed they did mention not to travel to Elmhurst if local restrictions where you live do not allow it.

That is what is a bit confusing - they can carry on which is fantastic, even in tier 3, but in tier 3, you can’t travel which they also say not to do 🤔 or am I being really dim. I think it’s probably me being dim 🤣  I just want to check I’m doing the right thing. 😅

    Which group colour is she?

It just doesn't make sense because the yr5s are in my DDs class which is split in half and not mixed with yr4s.

@Astrid there aren't any yr4s in your half of the class are there?

hello @Spamcat! All year 5 girls in our group, my DD knows all the girls in our group she says it’s the same as last year with ‘some missing’ (who will all be in yours 🙂).

They have done so well to get everyone back!

Looking forward to them all being together again soon though @Spamcat x and to the return of jazz! 😎

Can anyone who is an existing Young Dancer advise on the 'dance mat or towel' email please? Another Mum and I thought it wouldn't be possible for the young dancers to dance on a towel, so we invested in dance mats. They've arrived, and are huge/heavy 😱 Too big, we feel? What are people's thoughts? TIA

Most of them have mats - and I think most of them have the one they recommend which is basically a yoga Mat style, which Comes with some straps? Most of them have them sling over their shoulders when they carry them in. They use them a lot in jazz as well, I don’t remember anyone having a towel in watching week but I’m sure it would be fine if they say it is?
Ours doesn’t seem heavy - just a lightweight yoga style mat? We got it off their list. I’d just go for that one.  Hope that helps! 🙂

Do you think the teacher will mind them not wearing the mandated shoe as it's full sole canvas? I'm keen to avoid reading the above but don't want to get DD in trouble.

No I don’t think they will mind at all. They just say a full sole canvas. last time they said full sole satin and while they recommended a shoe solong as they were full sole satin it didn’t matter. 🙂
