  1. @Sophoife Sadly not. @jmhopton Yes, I wasn't interested in going until I found out it would be her last. I'm hoping to get a cheap Friday rush ticket as I don't want to pay much when I will probably skip at least one of the other parts, possibly even both.
  2. I'm very glad Laura Morera was on this evening & that I loved her in the role. I'm now stuck in rail replacement bus hell, after missing the last direct train because Covent Garden tube was temporarily closed, so at least I'm suffering for a good performance! I'm also starting to wonder if the railway has something against me seeing Morera as I had a terrible journey home after seeing her as Giselle too!
  3. I think the triple bill ending this season presents that dilemma to some people, myself included. I said on the predictions thread that if Melissa Hamilton didn't get a public performance as Manon I'd complain to Kevin O'Hare in person. This evening I tried to pre-empt any need to complain by putting in a request when I saw him at the stage door!
  4. Am I the only person who didn't mind Frankenstein? Not that I loved it but I thought it was fine. If it was revived again I'd consider seeing it again, if it was a good cast. I feel as though every one else hates it though! The only other Scarlett pieces I've seen are The Cunning Little Vixen, which I really enjoyed, Asphodel Meadows & an extract from No Man's Land.
  5. And Morera is safely on tonight's cast list! https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/40/cinderella-by-frederick-ashton/cast-list/51649
  6. I hope your flight was on time. I would have been terrified of delays. In fact even though I'm only coming from Cambridge I've decided to get a train half an hour earlier than usual just in case, as the other train line is screwed up.
  7. I have already seen her a couple of weeks ago & really liked her in the role, not having seen her in that many classical roles previously. Basically as long as Morera makes it onstage tonight I'm not so bothered as to who the rest of the cast are! Thanks.
  8. My ROH bookings aren't affected this time but I'm annoyed that I won't be able to get to Peterborough on 31st May to see one of my favourite improv groups. That's another £25 ticket down the drain. (Yes, I have looked at coaches but there appear to only be a couple per day and the return one would be leaving Peterborough at 3am and getting to Cambridge at 4am, which are hardly practical or safe times to be travelling as a single female.)
  9. I nearly had a heart attack just now when I checked the ROH website & saw "Cast Change" against tonight's performance. Mercifully it's Mendizabel replacing Storm-Jensen as the Fairy Godmother & not anything involving Morera! I mean, I would have liked to see Storm-Jensen but there will be other future opportunities whereas this is my only chance ever to see Morera as Cinderella, & I'm still gutted at having missed her as Mary Vetsera when she was injured last November.
  10. The only Kosky production I've seen is The Nose. I would have left at the interval if only it had had one! So I've been avoiding his productions since.
  11. I evidently either blinked & missed that or couldn't see it from where I was sat.
  12. Which of the operas had this? Giulio Cesare? I saw ETO less than 2 weeks ago & can't recall a moment exactly like that. Though it could have been one of the things I missed from my restricted view seats. However at least with ETO I'm paying £25 for restricted view & it's only 5 miles away, vs £60+ & 60 miles for the ROH, so I tend to be a lot less bothered by the odd dud ETO production. I reasonably enjoyed all 3 of the latest tour, with Il Viaggio a Reims my favourite (apart from the last couple of minutes).
  13. Exactly! She makes them sounds so interesting. Of course whether they actually are or not I don't know, but I'd like the opportunity to find out.
  14. I can't either, but it doesn't stop me from wishing some of them would be. I'd be really interested to see Checkmate or Job or The Gods Go A-Begging. I wouldn't mind if I was the only person in the audience, though whichever company was performing obviously would!
  15. I gather from when comments on booking are made that a significant proportion of the posters on here have some level of Friends membership so, as I don't, I'd say I have less chance than all those. As for female choreographers, it doesn't bother me in the slightest that most classical/heritage ballets are by male choreographers & I certainly wouldn't go & see something just because of the gender of its choreographer. I'd be interested in seeing some of de Valois' works - because they sound interesting rather than because she was female - but it doesn't look like the RB's likely to revive them any time soon (ever?). I have yet to see anything I like by any current female choreographers, but then I haven't liked much of what I've seen from current male choreographers either!
  16. I don't bother to go in that case, because if I'm going to just listen then I can listen to a CD or the radio much more cheaply! Yes, considering Tosca is one of their few traditional productions that's left the thought of it being replaced is rather depressing. I doubt that Carmen will be considered a loss, as most people seemed to really dislike it, but yes it seems a waste of money to ditch it after only something like 6 years.
  17. Nowadays I settle for productions that I don't actively dislike. I gave up some years ago on hoping for anything more than that, with opera houses ditching all the lovely lavish period older productions & bringing in minimalist modern replacements.
  18. Wouldn't it be likely that friends/relatives/ex-dancers would be able to attend some sort of invite-only dress rehearsal? Anyway, it sounds as though I need to downgrade my ticket expectations from "unlikely to get a ticket" to "not a hope of getting a ticket" & not even bother trying for it when booking opens next March.
  19. Thanks. I thought it would be odd for there to be 1 booking period less than usual. At least next season the ballets are fairly well spaced out over the booking periods, unlike some years when there seemed to be more than half the ballet season all in the first booking period. Though unfortunately most of the operas I'm considering bookings for are in the first booking period so it's still going to be an expensive one for me!
  20. I'm tentatively enthusiastic about most of the next ballet season but am awaiting pricing before being more enthusiastic. I really hope there aren't more price rises of the same magnitude as there were this season as if the prices get any higher I won't be able to afford to see much & certainly not the multiple casts I'm likely to want to see for some ballets. At least I ticked off half a dozen casts at the last Swan Lake revival and there aren't likely to be many debuts this time around so I'm hoping 2-3 performances will be sufficient for me. On the other hand having only seen 2 Don Q casts in 2019 there will probably be lots of casts I want to see in that. Manon I did see plenty of casts last time but it looks like there could be quite a few debuts so again I fear I'll want to see more casts than I can afford. Nutcracker I am resigned to only being able to see a couple of casts per season but as it's on almost every season I am gradually accumulating seen casts. Of the more modern works, I didn't see Dante Project when it was new & am quite happy not to see it this time either! Winter's Tale I've not seen live but I was so-so on it when I saw the original cinecast back in 2014 so I imagine 1 or at most 2 viewings of that will suffice. Not sure if I want to see The Cellist again but I've not seen Anemoi so might have to go once to see that. I wonder if Cuthbertson will be back from maternity leave in time to reprise the title role of The Cellist? As the only one of the Ashton works I've seen before is Rhapsody I'll be going to both the Ashton triple bills, though I hope the casting will be arranged so it's possible to see different Rhapsody & Dream casts across seeing both bills. I'm sure I'll be seeing the MacMillan triple bill too, though my heart did sink when I read that Different Drummer is based on Woyzeck. I wish it wasn't such a popular story for adaptations. I've been avoiding the opera for almost 20 years. Add me to the list of people who really want to see Sarasota Ballet but are very much afraid that tickets will be impossible to get by the time public booking opens. Apropos booking, unless I've misread the website there only seem to be 3 booking periods next year rather than the usual 4. I can only find 2nd August, 11th January and 27th March as public booking dates.
  21. Does anyone have any opinions on the current Rigoletto & La Forza del Destino productions? The casting for both (2nd cast for Rigoletto) is tempting but I'm dubious as to the productions.
  22. I can't say either of those guests worked that well for me either but when Andrijashenko partnered Hamilton in the same R&J run I thought they were amazing together. I was also extremely impressed by the most recent guest appearance I saw, Iana Salenko in ENB's Swan Lake. So I suppose it's a bit of a toss-up as to whether guest partnerships work out or not.
  23. Oops, I completely forgot about that one, I suppose because her main partner in the ballet was Sambe, plus I only saw it at the cinema, having had covid when I was supposed to see it live.
  24. I've thought of another partnership I'd like to see more of: Hayward & Ball. I've only seen them do Onegin together & I thought they were excellent in that. Their pdd in the first scene was one of those moments where you feel time has stopped. I know they're never going to be paired together frequently, as she's needed for shorter men & he's needed for taller women, but it would be nice to see them together on occasion.
  25. While I hope it does get rescheduled I'm not sure I want it next season, because I had booked to see Calvert & Campbell in it and if it's done next season she won't be able to do it.
