That's right. I feel most of the discussion here is limited to the purely physical.

Very good point PdQ.  I am always proud of the way my DD copes with a no - and we have had numerous, including a number of RBS and other waitlists.  It is such a difficult journey for the whole family unit not just the dancer.  She has friends who don't take it so well and one whose mother took some helpful constructive feedback badly and while the child wanted to continue on the journey the mother backed off, to the detriment of the child.  What must also be taken into consideration as everyone goes through the audition process is this is just the start.  The anxious feeling you all have waiting for the "yes" is one you will continue to have in the coming years day in day out as they go from assessment to assessment and audition to audition.  I am not saying this to put anyone off nor am I implying that dance parents out there do not already know what they are going into.  I am just empathising with the situation as someone going through it.  We have good days and bad days but the one thing that makes us all keep going is having a DD who is happy, healthy and continues to love dance - but if this was not the case we would have no hesitation to move to plan B!  Good luck to everyone waiting for the outcome of auditions.

Am I the only one with an audition on February 28th? Seems odd to have one so late when places have already been given out

There is a further audition for Dance in March so this is not the last date.  If the are holding auditions they would, I assume, make offers, of places and funding auditions, but from reading the above posts it looks like bed spaces is an issue.  Has anyone been offered a boarding place?  I assume the new Year 7 intake would have been made offers.  Or perhaps they are waiting until after the finals for funding.

FYI, They have just anounced some technical glitch on their FB page.

Just about to post the same - mentioned on their Instagram! A relief for many :)

They state it was an email and domain name issue but this does not answer the question as why they haven't answered Facebook or Instagram messages.  I hope they are now being proactive and more organised.  Waiting until 1st May the closing date for the music, as was suggested, wouldn't give long for participants to rehearse.

I suspect they are not going to send the music out until the closing date for the comp has passed, otherwise those who entered early would have an unfair advantage on those who enter later. Haven't they already published the lists of the rep for the older categories already?

I think that is a very fair point with regards the music but the rep list is available so surely you can start working on elements of the choreo.  I do however feel the lack of response to contacts going back a number of weeks is of concern.

They're on Facebook - maybe try that?

They don’t appear to be responding to Facebook messages.  We know someone who wants to apply and was seeking some additional information.  We can’t make a full week due to exam prep so not for us this year.

    Thank you MrsMoo 🙂

Has anyone come across RBS seeing people outside of the official audition process for JAs? We came across a 9 year who auditioned today (apparently...).

Not heard of an audition for Associates outside of the advertised process although they do invite those they like from intensives in for either an individual audition or more likely into a current class.

A  pity the brief is no longer available but as you say reading between the line leads to all manner of speculation as to what possible changes might be in the planning.

I did find the brief and it didn't sound like there would be big changes and the direction of travel is most likely linked to tapping into available funding by developing their outreach activities and by running additional money earning ventures.

The deadline was a good while back so hopefully someone is quietly in post doing said strategic consultancy role to move it on ever upwards!

But someone must know who this is & how things are progressing as surely they are visibly out there talking to relevant important industry people & influencers?

You would have thought so.  As @Newdancermum noted in her post Sadler's Wells is already booked on the usual Sundays in August/September.  We have been looking at summer schools and there isn't much time between their senior and junior courses for NYB to go in there.  I would need to check last year's diary to see if the days are the same.  Looks liek we may be seeing some changes.

  9. I can understand why RBS associates might be encouraged to apply but not full-time students unless perhaps they feel they need additional work over the summer.  I recall the year the Easter course started there were those who applied for both and had places on both, those who applied for both and had a yes for one and a wait list for the other.  We didn't personally know of anyone with a yes and a no or a waitlist of a no but suppose that may happen.  Not sure if they did it this year but you could prioritise one over the other - not sure how much that mattered as one of DD's friends prioritised summer and had an offer of both and another prioritised Easter and had an Easter offer and a Summer waitlist, with an eventual place.  Unfortunately, with the numbers who apply there must be an element of luck as I am sure there are hundreds of lovely dancers who just never get an offer or even a waitlist.

  10. One thing to add is that those offered places have about five weeks from the time of an offer to pay the fees.  This is a time that a few may drop out due to the overall cost when they factor in travel and overnights/stays in London.  Others may drop out due to injury or other commitments over the coming months so there is always the chance of a place.  However the waitlists don't appear to be very short.  DD personally knew of at least 10 in her age group with a waitlist for last summer.

  11. Just a quick update on NYB from a friend who works in the industry.  He told me that they advertised back in the summer for someone to undertake a three month review, starting in October, to look at their strategy and prepare a report to inform a business plan for some new ways of working (his words from what he remembered of the original advert).  This ties in with the information from NYB when they said there will be news come mid-January.  Looks like there might be some changes afoot.

  12. A few years back I was told by one of the course administrators that they review the waitlisted DC before offering places out and as @Peanut68 says they fill the places of those who decline or pull out with DC from the same age group.  I have not heard of a place from a Spring waitlist but this is a relatively new course.  DD's friend was offered a place from waitlist for a Summer school around May one year.  I understand that when they get closer to the date they don't offer places when people drop out.

  13. I contacted them a month ago to ask when audition dates would be available and was told it will be into the new year.  Sorry this doesn't answer your question.  I got the impression they were not as far ahead in planning than previous years.  Have they appointed a new Director yet?  I haven't seen anything.

  14. I don't know exactly how many get finals but they look to choose around seven from each age group.  That said the oldest girls are age 14 and boys 16 so this does vary.  It also depends on the parts and relative height and technical ability.  As with everything in the world of dance a no is not always a reflection on ability.  Well done to those who have finals and good luck with the audition.

Thanks - I was sure I saw posé!  Funny thing to ask for though - wouldn't you automatically include them in an adage -especially as they also ask for promenades!

Yes it would be part of your adage.

I know this isn’t strictly doing dance so if it’s in the wrong place sorry please move! I’m having a bit of a career crisis and was hoping the wise people here on this board might be able to help.

I’m 24 years old, work in marketing and have been at the same company in the same role (although with two promotions) for three years. I’ve come to the conclusion that whilst I’m good at what I do, I really don’t enjoy it. So I need to find somewhere to move to.

Now for the hard part. I love ballet, always have done, but only started dancing at 16. I think part of me would like to try and work in a role that incorporates ballet in some way, but I have no idea what’s out there. I don’t have a ballet body and my technique really will never be good enough to teach so that one is out. I think being confined to a desk all day possibly isn’t for me either.

I’m good at research and planning. I’ve organised events for 450 people overnight (that one nearly killed me!) but logistics and analysis are my skills. I’m also pretty good at customer service as I have to answer the overflow calls on our reservations lines (it’s cruises I’m marketing) and our reservations director regularly jokes she wants to poach me...

I’ve taught myself so many things for the role: HTML code, Indesign, Photoshop, filming and editing videos, copywriting ect. The one thing I’m really really not good at is maths!

I also know a lot about ballet and dancewear from reading these forums, taking classes around the country and world (once all the way in Taiwan!) and research. Pointe shoes and fitting also fascinate me. I’d be very grateful for any suggestions of where I could look for a new opportunity. My friend joked I should start a new leotard company because I’m obsessed but I only have basic sewing skills and I think stretch fabrics are super complicated to sew.

ENB had a marketing post advertised recently - not sure if it has been appointed to.

In case anyone is wondering I just got confirmation from ENBS that it will not be possible to audition for summer school at this years' summer school

Sorry but did you mean summer school or US?
