I’m not sure what the rules are here surrounding naming students but I follow one of the girls from Australia who is in RBS 6:1 but she is currently out of dancing and recovering from an injury.

Possibly the same young lady then -  hope she makes a speedy recovery.

I have been back to the programme and cast sheets and taking account of what others have said about two or three casts I still don't understand the one or two missing from certain year groups for some dances but maybe they have had other opportunities.

I watched both Saturday matinee and Wednesday evening at the Linbury Theatre and there were some cross over of pieces. It was fascinating to watch the pieces in different settings (some worked , some didn’t). I’m interested in how the casting works. For instance Wednesday evening the show was stolen by one performer in a contemporary/ neo- classical piece but that performer was noticeably missing on Saturday matinee and the piece lost its impact. Do the school showcase all students as par for the course or is the show run as a ballet company would be? I understand they are students in training but I’m interested in how casting works at that level? Are we, as ticket purchasers watching everyone or an elite few?

Thank you for raising this as I thought it was strange that some of the dancers listed as being part of the year group appeared not to be dancing.  For WL years 7, 8 and 9 it looked like they may have all danced in the opening - which I have to say was better than last year and a lovely way to watch technical progress - but when it came to the character dances it was clear that not all of the year group were on stage.  One person I don't recall seeing in the US show was the young lady from Australia who gained place last year into 6:1 - did she not subsequently join the school?  I will have to go back to the programme and look more closely at who was dancing.

Has anyone had an update to their place since May?

Haven't heard of a waitlist update but we did hear from someone who decided against the full four weeks and at the time of payment gave up two weeks so the other two weeks may have been allocated to someone on the wait list.  They didn't say why but hinted that a change in the format and rumours of potentially large class sizes were mentioned by other in the conversation.  We do know someone who is still on the waitlist and has asked for an update as they were told there would be a further update in June but without an administrator this may not be forthcoming.

Yes we have heard back but I wouldn't call it an update - still in the same place on the wait list with an update in June!  Has anyone been made an offer recently or moved up?  DD's friends have pulled out as they felt too high on the list (and have now booked course elsewhere) but we have since heard that it went into the hundreds!  Why are so many being kept hanging on?!  We have nothing to lose so will hang on in there but I am looking around for a week of dance and hopefully a holiday in the sun - if we can get the two together all the better! ;)

Does anyone know what is going on with ENB SS?

Did anyone get through to the scholarship stage that auditioned on February 18th? I know it was the final audition date, and an extra one they added. Trying to convince myself that by then they'd already decided the scholarship audtionees rather than the fact my DD failed....bless her, she was fine about it. I was more upset.

Well done to everyone who got in or on the waiting list!! X

You did say earlier that it was your DD's first audition so well done to her for going for a vocational place.  As others have said it is not that she failed in any way.  There will be hundreds of applications for Tring and only a few are given offers and not all of those will get a scholarship audition.  None of us has a crystal ball to know why our DC get offered one thing and not another.  The Forum members are many but there will be just as many people out there not on the Forum with experiences of yeses and nos.  Everyone has a no at some point, often several in a row but we only hear from those who wish to share this as we do with the yeses.  She will have been up against those with and without experience and at this level potential is what they are looking for.  She can move on from this with the audition experience under her belt.  Ask her teacher(s) for some advice on how to go forward and try again in the future.

There isn't much info available about YDS, as scholars are told that they must not discuss/mention YDS on social media.

YDS is weekly, on a Saturday.

DD auditioned and was offered a place, but we choose to stay with Renaissance Arts Scholars in Leeds. We prefered the flexibility of classes once a fortnight on a Sunday afternoon.

Their media presence on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter has been quite active for the last year so maybe they have changed their views relatively recently.

This must be disheartening for those at WL, but hopefully the WL training puts them on a good place to audition successfully elsewhere.

I wonder why this is more of an issue for the girls than the boys other than generally there will be more girls in training than boys.

We suppose we also need to remember that there are a number who leave of their own volition for all manner of reasons.

It would be nice to see places being offered to those who have trained elsewhere in the UK.  Any news on other offers?

To answer my own question, just heard of a girl from Tring with an offer for RBS US.

  8. DD's friend was at Tring and Elmhurst this week and after getting a no from WL finals it left her quite down.  Thankfully a last-minute lesson at the weekend perked her up and she has come away from both feeling positive with all thoughts of WL behind her.  She wasn't called for physio at Tring and is aware that this is may not be a good sign and she may end up with three nos but is already asking what she would need to do to do better next time round.

Fingers crossed for all those waiting on results.  It appeared from earlier in the week that Tring hoped to have results out quickly but I take there has been no news today and it will be next week now along with Elmhurst.  We are planning something to celebrate her hard work either way so I will we keeping an eye out next week.

So 5 WL girls are through to upper school. Sounds similar to other years. Don’t know about the boys.

Do you know when they all started at WL?

Any news of where the other girls have offers from?

  11. So this is the extract from Instagram:

"We will be notifying students who have submitted a Summer School application of the outcome a week today. ~
If you wish to apply and know by next Friday we must have received your application by Thursday 28 midday. ~
Any applications received after this date may be considered and will be notified of the outcome after consideration. "

So does this mean that 1st March is no longer the application deadline date?  The other day they were still saying 1st March.  Hope those applying last minute pick up on this.

  12. 57 minutes ago, KarenP said:

Hope so. The email had said 14 days. Probably a mistake but I need to sort out summer hols.

This is my concern as if I don't get my dates in I may not get the time off.  We are not very confident about a place so will have to start looking elsewhere anyway and dates of what we are looking at are different.  If I book leave now I won't necessarily be able to change it.

We are starting to feel that this was a waste of time.  So many places have already been given out (DD heard recently - through Instagram no doubt - about places being offered to those who did well last year without having to audition/send in videos) and they will no doubt have to keep some for the applications that will come in right up to the deadline.  I was wondering if the decision not to move the summer school to the new premises is causing a problem.  The change to the new format was predicated on using the new studios.

We will remain hopeful until we hear but I will stop refreshing and get back to enjoying half-term!

I don’t think there is ever a set number of places in each year at RBS. My uderstanding is that they make space for someone they feel will suit their particular form of training, and each year has different numbers of students.

Evidenced by places being offered from Summer School and after the start of the school year.  Could it be that MDS numbers are limited but if you don’t need funding there are still places for those they want or are from overseas?

June Dancer, perhaps you can do three weeks - I just asked about two really out of curiosity, but anyway most of the younger students only do one.  My student has also applied for week two, which as you say now seems to be the week which will fill up the quickest.  If they invite her for the third week, I am not sure she will accept, because I can't come and watch during the third week and as it is if she does get in it will be quite an adventure for her! She's only 13 and the fact that I'll be there to support her is important.

Three weeks would be too long for us - too expensive and DD wouldn't want to be away that long.  We would just be delighted with one week for now.  Is this as competitive as I have heard?

I asked on FB and Iain said that those applying for two weeks could apply for either weeks one and two or weeks two and three.  It's wonderful that they've opened up more places!

So not a three option then?  Does this mean that if you only want one week you are more likely to be offered a place for Week 1 or the new Week 3.  But as Week 1 is still term time for most DCs this in effect means that Week 1 will be the least popular option for a single week?  So if you can do that week perhaps more chance of a place?  Torture or what!  Anyway no doubt too late to let them know of any week changes.  We were hoping for Week 2 which would only mean missing the last few days of term when they don't do much anyway but maybe we should have asked to move to Week 3.  Does anyone know how many places they have against applications?  I think we applied too late last year.  I found out later that offers had been made by the time we applied so unless they hold some back for those who apply up to the deadline, how does this work?

  16. Okay I take that back MAK - it is within withing walking distance. 😊  We are just used to the trio of Bloch, Capezio and Dancia and being able to fit in a quick shopping trip taking in all three.  We will just have to rework our route to class and the theatre. 😉

  17. Just a relocation as AnnaC has noted and yes the new store will be much bigger.  Opening hours are changing from what I understand - later opening and closing.   They are also diversifying with more sports and fashion lines.  The industry article I read focused on the bespoke nature of the brand but I am not sure how they think pointe shoes compare to the other brands they were aligning it with such as watches, jewelry and the sports shoes.  It is now not within walking distance of Capezio and Dancia so maybe not a good move for the dancers?
