  1. Congratulations to all the Newcastle and Birmingham successes, and hope those who were disappointed are okay... So, I wonder who will hear this week?!
  2. Congratulations, 'tired dance mummy'! That's fabulous!
  3. Ah hope your dd takes it ok, Yellowbutterfly. Good she's keen to try again.
  4. Living2dance, sounds like seaweed all over then! I think the results are sent in order of when they took place, unless you auditioned at a different centre from where you want to go for the classes, which might change the timing a bit? Good luck for Manchester!
  5. Brilliant, AuntieNora! Do you know, it's been lovely to find such friendly people on this forum. One of our dance teachers wasn't very encouraging about the idea of JAs - not discouraging the idea, but just rather unexcited - and our other teacher said everyone there would be very snooty! But we didn't find anyone snooty at all, just thrilled to be there and excited by the whole thing.
  6. Hey, Auntie Nora! We were there for the same class in London and like you, had a wonderful time! We must have seen each other - did you stay and wait? It was such a positive experience and my dd loved it. No expectations whatsoever now, but I think the teachers did a lovely job of making the girls feel inspired and encouraged. Did your dd talk about the 'imagine you're a piece of seaweed' extemporisation piece?! Sounded curious but fun!
  7. Good luck to all who have been waiting a long time! We only just had the London auditions last week. They said we'd hear at the end of June.
  8. We really enjoyed watching it on Saturday from the Circle - we had a marvellous aerial view of the swan formations for the lake scenes! Perfect first Swan Lake for my daughters. The Black Swan pas de deux was the definite highlight - truly amazing - and the orchestra, too. Overall I found it less emotionally charged and more of a 'show' here in the round than in the more traditional theatre-stage format, except for the final scenes which I confess did bring a tear to my eye! Excellent performance, and in parts, exquisite. Would recommend.
  9. I think that's what we'll become after my DD enjoyed it so much this time! A great experience all round, we thought! Good luck, anyway! I guess there's always that little chink of a chance.
  10. We were there for the 11-12:00 class! Was this the first time you'd been too?
  11. My dd had a wonderful time at the year 6 auditions on Tuesday - it was her first audition for JAs and she went in looking rather nervous but came out so happy and joyful! Great experience, whatever the outcome. She says she'd love to try again next year, even if she never gets a place. Lovely teachers and judging panel too. Phew!
  12. Good luck to all London auditionees this week!
  13. We have classical ballet at one school and last year moved modern and tap to another. The ballet is taught to a much higher standard at the original school, but their modern and tap is rather sluggish until students reach the higher grades, so my dd got rather bored with it after four years, whereas at the other school she really loves it and they have more performance opportunities too which brings those types of dance alive. The ballet school don't know that we're at the other school for modern and tap now, but the modern one knows about the ballet! I do feel a bit awkward at times, but ultimately I want my dd to really enjoy all forms of dance and to be taught to the highest standard in each one, with performance opportunities sometimes too, not just grade after grade and nothing else. I think it depends on the school as to how approachable they are, and if you've signed anything to say you won't go to a rival school then of course it won't work, but it's a competitive market, so why not pick the best for your child? My dd is 10 so I guess at some point we'll switch to having all the classes at one or the other, but for the time being it's working well. Good luck with the decision!
  14. Sounds like a positive experience - so glad your dd enjoyed it! And well done with the hair styling!
  15. Good luck for your dd, Yellowbutterfly! For those still waiting for JA London audition dates, they will be emailed out this Friday.
  16. This has been really valuable to read, as we're just debating the whole vocational/mainstream school issue for our dd, who is academically bright (but also spends a large amount of time dancing!). Bestfootforward, thanks for what you say. And good luck to Piepie for such a hard decision...
  17. Thanks, Anna C, I'll have a look. Was just interested to know how each school schedules in the dance exactly at the different vocational schools.
  18. Does anyone know how much dance they get in year 7 at Redroofs?
  19. Hi, does anyone have recent (last two years or so) experience of dance within the full-time curriculum at Redroofs School of Performing Arts in Maidenhead? If pupils join at year 7 what standard are they generally? Would love to hear from anyone with first-hand experience!
  20. If she's confident and enjoys music and dancing, just go for it, as that will shine through! Good luck!
  21. Thanks so much for the encouragement! Looking forward to the audition day anyway, and a glimpse into the RBS. The JA experience day was really positive - lovely teachers and pianist, and the other girls were friendly too. Some had clearly come with their friends and mums from dance schools, but we were just on our own and my dd loved the whole day.
  22. Ah I see, thanks for explaining. I know it's a long shot anyway, so we'll just make the most of the special audition day! My dd went on a JA experience day at Covent Garden in November and absolutely loved it so she was very keen to have a try, even if just to spend another session in the studios!
  23. I assume they audition in their year groups? Also, my dd is currently in year 5 and so auditioning for the last year of JAs and I just wondered, are there actually any spaces left to audition for?! Or do all the current year 5 JAs just move up and take the spaces for next year? My dd is really looking forward to it for the audition experience but I just don't want her to get her hopes up at all high if in fact there's only maybe one or two places actually available? Can anyone advise?! I love this forum, by the way!
