  1. Thank you Dramascientist, yes we are very happy she has a place at YDA and can stay at home! It is a really good school with fantastic classical teaching, and there will be 9 children in year 7 when she starts so lots of personal attention. They do have children who get into WL, this year a girl from year 7 has got the only year 8 place given at WL I believe. And the children who stay there for all their lower school years get into great upper schools. One year 11 has secured a place at Royal Upper this year too. Thanks for the pom pom waving Petalviolet!! She is grand battement'ing and pirouetting at the moment ...
  2. Finally been able to tell DD the news as she was away last night, the no letter arrived yesterday. I was upset and worried she would be devastated. When I picked her up from school just now and told her she had a cry, but with a master stroke I had managed to arrange last minute play date with her BFF who threw her arms around her and said yay, that means you get to go to YDA and I can still see you at weekends. She is now looking forward to starting YDA in September. I am looking forward to her getting excellent classical training and staying at home (I never wanted her to board!) Sorry everyone who has had bad news like us, but it is heartening to see that kids can be resilient, (more than us parents perhaps), and pick themselves up and carry on. There are going to be as many rejections and nos along the way as yeses (possibly more). P.S. she walked into the house just now and did a double pirouette to 'make herself feel better'.
  3. Guaranteed they have sent them second class intentionally as they will be out the building by tomorrow, thereby avoiding deluge of phonecalls/emails post results!!!
  4. Ballet queen said they said second class, looks like Thursday ...
  5. Hurrah, so glad your lovely DD has a place balletqueen xxx
  6. Thank you so much for taking the time to dig out the letter and check. I have to say I loved it too as did my dd, can only dread how upset she will be if it is a no.
  7. Any idea how long they took to arrive Twoballerinas0004??
  8. I'm with you Dreamer123, not expecting anything before Wednesday.
  9. One of the hard things with growth spurts is when they grow lopsided too! DD was told last autumn she had grown more on one leg than the other by physio she had been seeing for a bit, but now it seems evened out again. The physio said exactly that - they can lose flexibility and or balance/co-ordination during growth spurts. I'm sure that is taken into account by any audition panel etc.
  10. My dd is Prone to tight calves but stretches them every day and always after class and then they are ok. It's quite common for dancers to have tight calves. Just needs regular maintenance. And yes this time next week it will be over - hurrah! X
  11. And equally Re these little things like tight calves or rolling in foot if they are saying with exercises it can be corrected it doesn't sound like they are 'deal breakers'
  12. Ah ok, thanks hair belles. Hopefully no mention of anything to dd is a good sign then.
  13. Having visions of "FAIL SCREEN" scrawled in red pen across the body on the back of DDs form - waaahhhhhhh!!!
  14. Yeah I asked mine if she could see anything she had written but she said she couldn't! So hard to know and easy to read things into every little passing comment or smile or frown isn't it? I guess unfortunately we can only speculate and wait for the results! I would say it doesn't sound too serious, tight calves just need regular stretching.
  15. I'm quite surprised that the physio was giving feedback like that during the ssssion. Is that what normally happens? they didn't mention anything to dd she said. Apparently on the back of the form they had to fill in while they waited was a picture of a human body and the physio would then mark things on it as they tested. And there was something along the lines of 'excellent screen' fair screen' and 'fail screen' which I'm guessing was the physios overall assessment to tick!????????????
  16. In the Royal email it said end of March, I've just checked Holly house 9.
  17. Gosh, so does that mean there were in fact 15 going for year 10?? Seems like a lot!
  18. Yes piccolo I think there were 11 going for year 9 and 14 for year 10! Balletqueen knows for sure as her dd was going for year 9
  19. That is fantastic Snowflake - your dd has come out of the whole experience having grown and learned from it, as you say whatever the outcome, and that is the bit we have no say over really. I was sitting reflecting tonight with a glass of wine, over the crazy ups and downs of the last 5 months since we started on the audition merry go round, and I remembered her tears, her fears, her smiles and victories, her knock-backs, her getting back ups, her keeping going, and then her beaming face yesterday as she went off into the final audition at the school of her dreams with her head held high. That is the thing that I will come away from this all remembering, no matter what happens.
  20. Hi snowflake My DD was in group one, they had 23 in total in there, and there were 4 or 5 year 8s in their group as well, so only 18 or 19 yr 7s in that group, so closer to 35 girls for year 7. Glad your dd enjoyed it, mine loved it even more at the school this time than the last! I am trying to keep her realistic about the chances though. Ultimately all the children at finals are going to be talented dancers, but the panel will choose the ones they like most for all sorts of individual reasons, and there is nothing you can do about that!
  21. Yes, we were told by the woman who showed us round in answer to the question of when we would hear by that the school finishes term next Wednesday. We all took this to mean the letters will be sent by then. I'm not sure how other children auditioning could have known for sure it would be 48 hours when the school wasn't telling the parents only implying letters would be sent by the end of term, so I would take that as audition gossip!
  22. DD is doing Emma Northmore's ballet boost at Pineapple.
  23. So glad all our auditions are done now! It's like a marathon, isn't it? Hope all had a good day at Elmhurst today. DD came out even more in love with it than before. But I am trying to be pragmatic and prepare for all eventualities. There seemed a lot of girls there today!!
  24. Well done to the boys who were at Elmhurst today. DD is currently stretching in Gramps' front room (he lives 10 mins from Elmhurst, what luck!), she is so excited about tomorrow. Only a week seems ok to wait for results. Before easter then! Good luck to all the girls who will be there tomorrow. Hopefully we will be hearing good news for a lot of lovely balletco DC soon. Oh, and DD got a yes from YDA today!!
