  4. My dd's are doing a show and have had similar problems. I was told to use warm water and a small amount of washing up liquid. It cleaned them quite well got rid of normal marks and the black ones faded. Enough that they are not so noticeable. What is your daughter doing?
  5. Think its about 10th august according to website. Hopefully before her dance teacher goes on holiday .

  12. Hi all, I wondered if any of you could help. My dd's school is doing Alice in Wonderland for the ballet in the show this year and they are trying to find queen of hearts, king and duchess costumes.Adults are playing these parts. I wondered if any of you had any costumes you are willing to sell or hire, or if any one knows a good reasonable place to buy or preferably hire. We are in the west london area. Thank you in advance
  13. Are they strict on age as my dd will be thirteen a month after that date and is in intermediate
  14. What a lovely thread pups-mum. It has been so nice reading everyones stories. We are not a dancing family although many do music. I have twin dd'sbut the i will tell you about the one who loves it as i sometimes think my other dd is there by default although she does like it to , i don't think we would be so committed if it was just her. My dd, well you know how people say their son or daughter could sing before they could talk, well i swear she was dancing before she could walk. She loved the disney sleeping beauty film and i had videos of her dancing around to the music from the film at just over a yr old in our garden. Sadly that video got damaged. My mum saw it one day and said i have to get her dance classes, so took her to our local dance school at three. They do a show every year and while everyone else was dancing to a nursery song she was standing there doing her ballet arms in different positions funny thing is she hadn't been taught them yet. LOL. Even though she went to classes it wasn't til she was 6 she decided she wants to be a dancer. I have never known someone so focused, its amazing to watch her juggle school work and other things just so she can do her dancing every day, and yes she does get time to go see her freinds. Ballet is her first love and always will be,she is good, gets distinctions and i'm always told she has an mazing quality and will go far, but as the years go on she has been opened up to theatre to help with the acting side of dance and she loves that too and music. Who knows where life will take her but she as found the thing that makes her happy in life and as parents we can't do much more for our kids. Can we....

  16. Hi all, Don't know if this the place to post this butI just wondered if anyone can help me. I am organizing a raffle for my dd's dance school and would love to get some tickets for a show. Maybe a west end musical or a ballet. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the relevant people. Have tried couple of theatres but wondered if i would need to contact the companies themselves. Any advice gratefully received ballemum Nominee Posts: 3 Joined: Thu Jan 05, 2012 10:40 am
  17. I have to say i think it depends on the school. My dd's school is very good the lady who runs it is in her 80's and is very strict ,old school, which is good she will correct the children, one of my dd's did her IF exam before christmas and had something to correct they filmed her so she could see what was wrong and helped correct it by touching her leg. They will always have my full support as i know they are doing their best for her. She went on to get a distinction so it can't be that wrong and god forbid they gave her a big hug when she did LOL They have shows and learn not everyone gets parts they want. Competitions so they have winners and losers. It is tough out there and my dd knows being great in her school doesn't mean she is great outside her world I also think sometimes the parents don't help.I know of a girl whos mum pushed her all the time in ballet she didn't like doing it got a poor marks in her vocationals and now quit because she doesn't feel she is good enough. Its a shame as she was a nice dancer may never have gone on to use it but has missed out on enjoying the fun side because of dare i say it a pushy parent.
  18. Hi all, I was reading this with interest, as our school says the same. There was a girl at our school who quit ballet but continued her other dance class, tap, modern theatre and national and the teacher suggested she took it back up after a couple of years, she did and her marks started to improve again after having fallen slightly. Both my dd's do ballet tap modern and national and are part of the youth programme at our local theatre . One of my dd gets amazing marks in all her dancing i don't find one hinders the other, it always amazes me how she goes from ballet and tap which are so different, yet my other dd who also gets great marks in all struggles a little with her tap. So i think it depends on the individual person as to what they are capable of. I also believe the different styles especially ballet give them a deportment and gracefulness you don't get just anywhere. My dd's wer in a christmas show at their theatre of Annie and i had many people pick them out and say what lovely dancers they were and how they could tell they did dancing. Even in ballet the acting classes have help hem to express themselves more in the ballet. My dd's are 12 and i don't think you are reducing her chances for later on but enhancing them as i would think it shows good discipline and she does tap and contempory aswell so shows a good all round knowledge of dance. ( I hope so as one of my dd's want to look into auditioning again soon). Sorry to waffle on just my opinion hope it helps.
  19. Hi all, Just thought i would update you on my other dd who couldn't do exam in December because of her sprained knee. She is doing it in the summer session. yeah.
  20. HI, I have been reading this thread, Both my dd's do 3 x 1hr30min ballet classes a week with more at exam time, they also do tap modern and drama classes at a theatre aswell. It doesn't seem much compared to some of you. One of my dd's would do the ballet all the time if she had the chance, but as you all say they need a rest sometimes too. It too have had the look from my dd's if i say to have a break from something. I have also had that look from parents as if i am pushing them too much. My answer is simply if you can get them to stop feel free, i think i could do with the rest even if they can't lol
  21. Hi, More fantastic results well done to all. I thought the same as you spannerandpony, i wondered if it was allowed because of the syllabus changing. I'm sure Ja sm can shed some light. Don't we as a country have some amazing dancers, lets hope we continue to hear wonderful things about them in the future.
  22. Hi jellybeans, My dd has had just turned 12 when she did exam.
  23. Hi spannerandpony, I agree and she would happily skip as its not her Favourite dancing anyway unlike my other dd who would do it 24/7. Unfortunately her teacher wants her to do it. She Is doing intermediate aswell so hopefully wont fall behind others.
  24. Tthank you pinkpanther we are all very proud of her. as for my other dd yes she will do the exam in new syllabus But teacher only started teaching it in sept, luckily She was doing that class among thers for last term so teacher wants to Enter herfor the summer hopefully and she has lett he continue into intermediate so she stays where she shoul be So i will continue to be around on this subject for a while.lol
