Coronation Concert - Ballet
balletfanatic replied to Ian Macmillan's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
One third of state schools are faith schools and 26 bishops automatically sit in house of Lords making decisions on legislation. Plus its a legal requirement for all schools to hold a daily act of worship although many ignore this. -
Coronation Concert - Ballet
balletfanatic replied to Ian Macmillan's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Exactly this. I'm very happy to attend a wedding, christening etc but I decided long ago not to watch or take part in any other religious service. I don't care what people believe but I do think religion has way too much influence in this country. That's probably a debate for a different Website though! -

I have no problem with whatever anyone believes either, i do appreciate the art, music, architecture etc but I'm an atheist and religious ceremonies are not my thing -
Coronation Concert - Ballet

I really enjoyed the coronation but I'll be perfectly honest the religious bits were a turn off for me and seemed a bit odd and outdated in a mostly secular society. I'm really not a fan of religion though so that coloured my opinion I loved francesca Hayward and Marcelino Sambe. I wasn't keen on the actors but mainly because I didn't think they chose the best lines in a play with so much beautiful poetry. -
ROH 23/24 season announced

I find a lot of modern ballets have way too many lifts and not enough dancing, and the lifts are often really complicated and don't look elegant to my eyes- 550 replies

ROH 23/24 season announced

It's interesting that a principal of the Royal Ballet would find a role too challenging. What part of the role specifically? I think she's an absolutely wonderful dancer by the way, totally deserving of principal status, I'm just curious- 550 replies

I had to do heel drops and stand with my leg out behind me and bend my knee. Hope you recover quickly

Be really careful with the tendinitis. I had that last summer and could barely walk for several weeks. It only healed with a lot of rest and ice and exercises. I know people on crutches or having ops because of it.

Good luck for your advanced 1 results. That's a massive achievement. My problem is finding somewhere to teach adults grades 6 and 7. I'm not willing to learn with teenagers!

I did up to grade 5 as a child then did grade 8 as an adult. I'm nearly 50 but did the exam a few years ago. I would have loved to do all the exams as a child but they only went up to grade 5 at that stage. I often think about going back to do grade 6 and 7

Promotions to principal at age 21

I love that video so much - thanks for posting it. I miss them dancing together so much - love them -
It's been a while since Don quixote was performed as well as Alice. I'd love Bayadere but sounds unlikely as 1 or 2 people were offended last time. Also definitely Manon. I'd like to see Naghdi get a chance at this role now she's danced the bedroom pas de deux. Also love Onegin and the casting would be amazing

I agree but everything seems to offend someone these days so that's what I meant that only fairy tales will end up being safe at this rate and maybe even they will offend someone.. cinderella and sleeping beauty being rescued by a Prince may offend some people! All this censorship has just all got out of hand in my view

I love it because it's dramatic and its representing a real life story. Real life can be depressing and distasteful. Otherwise why not just show one fairy tale after the next. Art and culture are meant to make us think and react. We are adults and should be able to handle it imo

I love Mayerling - nothing should ever be banned. You don't have to see it again if you don't like it but why stop other people enjoying it

I did grade 8 as an adult. Loved every minute of learning the syllabus but found the exam so nerve wracking I was shaking! It didn't help that the examiner was really stern and didn't crack a single smile. I passed but was disappointed in my result
