  7. Oh , ok - DS not doing NYB this year , decided to maybe do it every other year as it worked out quite expensive even with a scholarship.
  8. My DS going for scholarship audition 10 - 13 age group for the first time. Anyone know of the degree of difficulty for that age group? I guess the Royal ballet boys will scoop most of the awards!
  9. Just sending my best wishes to those still waiting for reserve places. Not long now, then that interminable wait will erase from your memory!!
  10. Morning all ! If I can dispel a couple of myths - I have a dance school from which many students audition for places at vocational schools . Of the four schools being discussed, there is not one which offers places to everyone who applies . (Realistically this couldn't work if you think about it ). I have had pupils at the hammond on bursaries or MDS. Tring on MDS, Elmhurst MDS ,noone currently at Royal but plenty through ja ma etc. As a teacher you try to advise parents of the suitability of their child for vocational training, as do most teachers, I imagine. Therefore, the vast majority who audition, are ,in the main , talented children. It follows that many will be offered places , but I know that they have to turn children away as well - and this certainly is the case.
  11. I really feel for you all awaiting results, having been there myself recently. However, if the news isn't good , remember that there are fantastic alternatives to the vocational route. Pupils at my dance school who didn't go to hammond are achieving the same grades and standards as their comrades who did. All you need is great teaching. Stay positive , but good luck to all of you .xxxx
  12. If my memory serves me correctly , its an offer of an mds or a letter saying you havent got funding and you get a phone call with a bursary offer later in the week. My ds had a friend who accepted his place with a bursary and got an mds the day he started at Hammond. LOL I have actually answered my own question about reserve lists!!
  13. A girl local to us was sent home from Hammond last year and is still battling with her weight . There is a fine line between a beautiful ballet body and a physique that is painful to look at. Unfortunately her best friend mimicked her eating pattern and is also now unwell . There are many triggers and i believe you have to be vulnerable in the first place. For example you could give 100 children a £1 to play on the slot machines , afterwards one may become a compulsive gambler . Similarly a teacher could make a chance remark to her class about fitting into costumes for a forthcoming show - many will shrug it off but the odd one -(probably not the one to whom the remark was aimed ) may take it further.Very complex illness but frightening how quickly it takes hold. As the weight disappears , so does the personality and the capacity to fight the illness. I am truly blessed that my ds loves his food. (inherited from me)
  14. Thanks everyone that helps. So excited to have replies I can't decide whether to have a glass of wine or start a new thread !!
  15. Hi everyone, hope this works as it is my first go ! Just wondered what the likelihood of getting a funded place is for a friend, her dd was at the Tring MDS final and was given a physio check but placed on a reserve list. I am sure that this is the time when people drop out, change their minds etc but it struck me that I've never heard of anyone get an offer of funding, having been on a reserve list. Or does everyone get put on a reserve list?
