  1. now I've posed it twice ! Lol ! Need more wine ????
  2. Being a novice ballet mum Dd has just explained to me the difference between a releve, bringing the foot underneath her, and a strong rise, transferring the weight onto the supporting leg. ????On pointe you have to releve into a pirouette, but on Demi pointe to avoid snatching, possibly throwing yourself off balance, and to do multiple pirouettes a strong rise into it is more effective. I wouldn't usually comment on a technical question but I thought we might be helpful ! Lol ! Oops ! Think I need to stick to the other threads ????
  3. Dd says you don't releve into a pirouette you do a strong rise, transferring weight onto the supporting leg. And snatching can cause you to throw your weight back so putting you off balance. This is probably why you are only managing singles.
  4. It depends on what group you are in Happymum ! When my dd did finals there were 3 groups and each rotated and did a ballet class, a physio assessment, non verbal reasoning test and a tour of the boarding accommodation. Good luck x
  5. Sorry Snowflake imo it gets harder ! You go through all the stress of auditions to get them in and then it's the stress of keeping them in ! I've got one trying to stay in and one trying to get in at the moment ! I must admit I feel less anxious about 6 th form auditions than year 7 ones !
  6. Perhaps there are more applicants this year due to them emailing everyone who has ever had contact with the school and reminding them to apply ! Lol !
  7. At Dd's school the MDS is calculated on the April 2014 to March 2015 wage slips for september 2015 start ! Those who are self employed etc submit an estimate and can confirm figures later in the financial year !
  8. For September 2015 start I thought it was based on April 2014 to March 2015 ! The MDS is calculated on this ! I may be wrong !
  9. It's a real shame that accomadation isn't included in the DaDa scheme as with the MDS ! It would make it more affordable for alot of families !
  10. ???? with a DADa I was looking at approx £14,000 per year ! Including school fees and accomadation ! It's just gone down to approx £9,000 ! A bit more affordable ! Fab news to get whilst I am sat in my car outside a 6th form audition wondering how we were ever going to pay for it if he was successful ! Lol ! Still a worry though !
  11. ???????????????? found it ! Off to increase my hours at work !!!
  12. Help ! I can't get the link to work and it hasn't been updated in the DaDa website ????
  13. I compare the earnings of a ballet dancer to that of a registered nurse ! The bandings of pay are very similar ! I'm a staff nurse / artist and my husband is a Matron / principal ! Lol !
  14. WL and MAs is the next day ?? Doesn't make sense ! I would ring them to confirm your dd is in the correct audition !
  15. Apologies for our ignorance but can anyone tell us who was teaching the first class yesterday ? Dd said they were both fantastic but can't remember who they were ????
  16. Excited dd ! See you all there ! I lived in London for 7 years and love Covent Garden ! I'm going to have a lovely day too ! ???? Safe journey everyone x
  17. We got one too ! We only ever applied once and that was 3 years ago ! Strange !
  18. Noticed that The Joffery School summer intensive is in Florence next year !!
  19. My non vocational DS has been for the past 2 years and I would say that there is only about 3 or 4 elmhurst students in each year group. A few from Tring and Hammond but mostly non vocational ! No RBS ! Good luck x
  20. We just got a couple of practice non verbal reasoning books for her to do so she didn't get too stressed about it ! She saw them as puzzle books and enjoyed doing them !
  21. When dd did Elmhurst finals there were 3 groups ! Each did a ballet class , physio assessment , non verbal reasoning tests and a tour of the boarding house. They did this in their groups and parents were asked to return to the school when their child's group were touring the accommodation ! There were approx 37 girls in total, grouped alphabetically, and I believe 12 were chosen. Good luck to your dd ! Enjoy the day x
