E-traces: Pointe shoes which record movement

Wearable electronics is an emerging new field.  I'm pretty sure that soon we'll see costumes enhanced with colorful electronically pulsated led lights flashing on and off - for better or for worse.

It's one thing to have artistic designs generated by movement....But could these shoes really help dancers evaluate and improve their ballet technique? For that matter, will we see ballet training apps for the upcoming Apple watch, and if so, how useful would they really be?

This looks like a rather expensive way to get pretty abstract art on your smartphone. Does it really do anything more useful than that?

We already have Stitch, in the final section of David Bintley's magnificent Orpheus Suite when Apollo's suit lit up!

How fast technology runs!  I hope you saw and liked.

Now that you mention it … maybe.  Perhaps force sensors of some kind could be incorporated under the ball and heel of the shoe to see if a dancer is using her feet properly.  It's an interesting thought.

Maybe we'll start to see 'virtual ballet teachers' - leotards and tights with sensors and a Siri-like voice correcting you when you descend wrongly into a plié. Ugh....
