Jan McNulty Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I've just picked up this Guardian article via twitter. It lists the nominees for the 2014 awards: http://www.theguardian.com/stage/2013/nov/08/2014-national-dance-awards-shortlist Congratulations to all the nominees. 1
aileen Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I note that the best male and female performance (classical) categories are supposed to be aimed at 'younger or less prominent' dancers. It's strange, then, to see Nicolas le Riche and Yuan Yuan Tan nominated.
Jan McNulty Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 Possibly because they are new to the people who are able to nominate.
chrischris Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I'm a bit surprised that Brian Maloney is nominated, not because he wasn't excellent (he is/ was, in everything i've seen him in) but Bratfisch doesn't seem the most difficult role, particularly compared to Rudolph.
Ian Macmillan Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I am naturally delighted to see Clemmie Sveeas nominated for her role as Anna Goeldi in Cathy Marston's Witch Hunt (Hexenhatz) brought to the LInbury from Bern back in May. It's been a good excuse to revisit Dave Morgan's photos from the show, so here she is airborne: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dancetabs/8779396249/in/set-72157633600994740 1
mart Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I totally agree with Aileen about Nicholas Le Riche ,perhaps it is the only way for him to get an award for that masterly performance ( can't say it is classical!),also Nancy Osbaldeston ,super little dancer ,but the doll in Petrushka is neither classical nor in my mind very difficult .
Bruce Wall Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 (edited) Just wait til next year ..... These awards will be buckling their swash with ENB's Le Corsiare .... .... The whole of the country should be proudly shivering their timbers in its regard. Come to think of it .... Nicholas le Riche would make a great guest in that too .... and, hey, the Company looks simply superb ALL ROUND!!! For me that latter's more than reward enough. Edited November 9, 2013 by Meunier 1
aileen Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I think that I read somewhere that the category 'classical' encompasses not just ballet but other 'classical' dance forms such as flamenco, Kathak. The categories do seem to be a bit ambiguous, though.
