Lucy M
Just spotted this on instagram so thought I'd share as it sounds very exciting... It looks like Vadim has been working with Latvian Figure Skater Deniss Vasilijevs (European Bronze medallist, 2x Olympian) on a new skating programme set to 'La Bayadère'! Deniss shared this photo from his instagram account - what a fantastic opportunity for him to get to work with Vadim (and vice versa). I can't wait to see the finished product! Timing-wise I assume this will be a competitive programme for Deniss next season (this is prime 'next season choreography' time), so unfortunately we will likely have to wait until around September to see the finished product! I've been a figure skating fan for many years (far longer than I've been following ballet!) so this is absolutely wonderful and so exciting to see.
Balletfanp
Amazing! I’ve rather lost touch of figure skating in recent years, but I’m aware that Stephane Lambiel (also in the photo) has expressed his admiration of Vadim before. Very exciting for all concerned, I’d imagine!

Emeralds
Deniss is a very elegant skater- he'll make a good Solor on ice. The competition season starts around September, but if Deniss is skating in a few ice shows in summer he might debut the program before competitions to give it time to settle in. @jorge, I saw Muramoto and Takahashi's Bayadere FD in the 2021-22 season: they did really well; earned a Four Continents medal in their first season skating together while many of the other skaters were away at the Olympics. Had no idea Kana and Daisuke liked ballet so much (I know Marina Zoueva does though). A pity Muramoto and Takahashi didn't continue their partnership for longer though.
Emeralds
Not quite related to Vadim or Bayadere, but sad to hear that Deniss' training mate and Stephane Lambiel's most high profile skater, Shoma Uno, has just announced his retirement, which is incredibly sad for those of us who still yearn for the artistry traditionally associated with the sport. In 2022 I must have replayed Uno's SP to Marcello's hauntingly beautiful Oboe Concerto hundreds of times. Perhaps he might be persuaded to make a comeback for next year for Milan-Cortina 2026.....
Lucy M
@Emeralds indeed it is, I'm surprised as thought he'd keep going until Milan and didn't expect a mid-Olympic cycle retirement! Maybe the lack of a medal at the most recent World Championships played into it... a real shame though, his artistry will be much missed.
nat
Very sad indeed. Shoma has an incredible presence on the ice and exceptional musicality. I don't think he'll come back for Milano, unfortunately. He's got 2 Olympic medals already and with the technical score of a clean skate by Ilya or even Adam, his chances for gold are not very high. Not to say it's impossible but perhaps not enough to motivate someone who's had a brilliant long career and achieved so much. Lucy M
And here it is! Denis Vasiljevs has debuted his new La Bayadère free programme at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany, where he took the bronze medal. Emeralds
I think to get a few more make or break points in, it might need a few tweaks from Shae Lynn Bourne or Stephane Lambiel to get more transitions in ....at the moment it looks like a few too many crossovers so his second mark might not be great. Still, it's very early in the season and a bronze at Nebelhorn is really good! This time next year Nebelhorn will be an Olympics qualifying competition for skaters and nations whose spots aren't secured so a medal in a different year is always encouraging. It would be great if Deniss could make the podium at Europeans again, possibly a place in GPF if he maximises his second mark and continued to work on his jumps. Spins are in excellent shape.
