Ian Macmillan
In exasperation, can I ask if I'm alone in finding the time that an Independent page takes to stabilise before one can scroll on it smoothly as being excessive? It was bad enough assembling its various plug-ins but now that it has to muster a left-side background advert that insists on staying central, anything up to 3 minutes now seems standard. I've been finding it a damn nuisance in recent weeks - and don't mention the invasive Vacheron Constantin watch ads alongside any FT article! I will not be buying one - Harrumph!!
John Mallinson
No trouble here using Safari (fastest), Firefox or Chrome. And I'm rather miffed that nobody thinks me worthy of ads for £10,000 watches.
Jan McNulty
Hi Ian, I use Firefox and I find some articles take a lot longer than others to load properly with the page jumping all over the place as the ads appear. It drives me doolally trying to read the articles where it happens.
alison
I think the Indy is the worst of the lot, although at least you don't get the posh watch ads obscuring the text, as you sometimes do with the FT. Edit: and while I'm on a rant, can I say how fed up I am with all these sites trying to open a page on Facebook for me? If I wanted Facebook open, I'm sure I could do it myself. Double edit: in fact, what we all want, obviously, is the Macleans Clean Reading Mode - try the book review above and see what I mean!
John Mallinson
No, what you want is to use Safari as your browser! It automatically detects text-rich pages and offers a Reader button which reformats the text in a similar way to the Macleans site.
