alison Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 This landed in my inbox: Bird&Carrot presents the UK Premiere of Brodsky / Baryshnikov Based on the poems of Joseph Brodsky Directed by Alvis Hermanis Performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov Brodsky / Baryshnikov is a one-man show based on the poems of Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky, performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov. Conceived and directed by Alvis Hermanis, noted Latvian director of The New Riga Theatre, Brodsky / Baryshnikov is an emotional journey deep into the poet's visceral and complex compositions. Performed in Russian, Brodsky's mother tongue, Baryshnikov recites a selection of his long-time friend's poignant and eloquent works. His subtle physicality transports the audience into Hermanis' reverent imagining of Brodsky's interior world. Performed in Russian with English surtitles English translation by Jamey Gambrell Scenographer - Kristine Jurjane Light Designer - Gleb Filshtinsky Sound - Olegs Novikovs, Gatis Builis Light - Lauris Johansons Video - Ineta Sipunova Brodsky/Baryshnikov is made possible thanks to the generous support of Norvik Banka and Blavatnik Family Foundation. A co-production of The New Riga Theatre and Baryshnikov Productions. Pulcinella Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 It's at the Apollo Theatre in London 3 - 6 May 2017 http://www.nimaxtheatres.com/apollo-theatre/brodsky_baryshnikov?wmode=transparent
alison Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 Thanks, Pulcinella. I guess no link came through - assuming that one was actually included.
Pulcinella Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I don't think I'll be going with tickets costing £50 - £130, with premium tickets at £200 and lasting only 90 minutes, no interval. Also the Apollo Theatre doesn't have the best of sightlines. 1
alison Posted December 14, 2016 Author Posted December 14, 2016 No, way out of my price range too, I'm afraid. Still, I'm sure there must be some rich Russian-speakers around.
Amelia Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 The premiere of Alvis Hermanis' film about Pope Benedict XVI starring Mikhail Baryshnikov is scheduled for late 2021. The film is based on the performance of the New Riga Theater "White Helicopter".http://oteatre.info/film-khermanis-baryshnikov/
FionaM Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 I’m told literal translation of Baryshnikov is “money grabber”. Unfortunate!
