  1. I was long ago done in by Dunkin Donuts chocolate crème filled donuts....also their coffee is usually quite good.
  2. From one with many years' experience with them, the most important thing is to remember that Paypal will never send you an email that starts "Dear Paypal Customer" or "Dear Paypal User"; they will only address you by your real name. Also if you really want to make sure, and if you do have a PayPal account, don't ever ever ever click on anything in one of these emails, just delete the email and go to PayPal and do your usual sign in, if there is something wrong you will find out there safely.
  3. You know, years ago there was a detective drama called "Hart to Hart", starring Stefanie Powers and Robert Wagner; Stefanie Powers had done quite a bit of ballet in her youth and there were a few episodes that had ballet in them. This one in particular concerned a ballet company where a murder occurred backstage and of course a defecting dancer played by Victor Barbee of American Ballet Theatre. I think it was the murdered dancer who was named Vladimir Dokoudovsky, a writer for the show did class at his studio in New York and I seem to remember that he asked permission of Mr. Dokoudovsky to use his name within the show as the subject of the crime, and "the Duke" (as we called him) was mightily amused at the concept. Also Alexander Minz of ABT was in the show, he may have played the director, but I recall that his character was called Boris Lermontov! (dear to my avatar's heart in a way of course!).
  4. Well it was a fairly typical murder mystery. There are worse ways to spend time. The ballerina part is just one of three murders investigated during the program. Can't tell you the rest!
  5. It's season 9, episode 7; if it's available on Netflix where you are it can be seen there. starting to look at it now.
  6. The time will go faster than he thinks as long as he's invested in his recovery, which it certainly sounds as though he is! Best wishes to him and to you.
  7. Okay I'll just put this out there under the heading of cultural differences - I emitted some pretty odd sounds in the middle of Tesco's on Goodge Street when I first moved there, having never seen spotted dick before... Even though I know that's not a sign... I do like one I see in New York that warns: "Don't even THINK of parking here!" Not to mention waiting for a bus beside an advert that boasted, "Brains Makes The Best Faggots"...
  8. I've often suggested the library, and the Robbins collection in particular, to someone as a holiday destination, even years ago when looking at a film meant really looking at a film, in reels, on big old machines, and when every format had its own machine(s) to watch it on. The treasures there are innumerable. Even looking at the on-line catalog is fun because they provide a goodly amount of detail on the listings. Since they redid the premises ten or so years ago, there are many more stations for video watching, and they've removed the actual films/dvds/etc. to some nether region where only an employee can actually handle them. I must say I don't see them making the collection available on line to anyone, even though more and more of it is digitized for preservation purposes. Many of the films have watching restrictions too (permission only, etc.) This one, I guess, is the program Macaulay is referring to? October 28, 1964 Includes commercials Contents:Juno's aria from Semele / music, Handel ; sung by Marilyn Horne Intermezzo, Op. 116, no. 5 / music, Brahms ; played by Sviatoslav Richter Images of love: "He loves her but he cannot see her..." / choreography, Kenneth MacMillan ; music, Peter Tranchell ; costumes, Kenneth Rowell ; danced by Lynn Seymour and Christopher Gable Aria from Semiramide / music, Rossini ; sung by Marilyn Horne Spanish Christmas carols / music, Joaquin Nin ; sung by Marilyn Horne, accompanied by John Newmark Romeo and Juliet: balcony scene / choreography by Kenneth MacMillan, specially commissioned by Festival ; music, Prokofiev ; costumes, Kenneth Rowell ; danced by Lynn Seymour and Christopher Gable Jeux d'eau [and] Alborada del gracioso / music, Maurice Ravel ; played by Sviatoslav Richter You could just set me in there, toss me a ham sandwich now and then, and I could be lost to civilization for a *long* time. And as far as seeing a stellar presence there, my favorite day spent in the library has to be the day I saw Antony Tudor watching films a few stations away.
  9. Does the RBS admit children at 11 with no training at all?
  10. Isn't it possible, though, that she wasn't so much unaware, but that she didn't like to speak about some things publicly?

  12. I seem to recall that Nureyev paid a large number, if not all, of her bills at that point - and he didn't have much time left either.

  15. David was very proud of her and invited people to the studio to watch her rehearse for her competitions, I recall!
  16. To be entirely correct, however, I think she shared the gold medal in the Junior division with Margarita Kullik.
  17. Thank you, Alison. It would be impossible to estimate his effect on the lives and careers of those in his classes. I first met him long before he had his own school, when he was teaching for Harkness House in New York, and later, even when I couldn't do his class I would watch just to glean everything I could from it, because it was so bejeweled, as it were. He created an incredible atmosphere among all of us.
  18. It is reported by official sources (his Facebook page among others) that much-beloved teacher David Howard passed away this evening in New York City from the effects of a stroke. He was a delight both as a teacher and a man. I am sure that there will be press etc. in the coming days.
