  1. I always enjoy having a quick look at the preparations for the first night party on my way out but did not see any such last night....( was there one?) ...maybe with all the budget constraints these days Odette was just arranging to meet up with von Rothbart in The Coach and Horses for a swift half..
  2. I think actually this might have all started only because Dawnstar suggested it would be good if critics saw and wrote about several casts and I certainly agree with that. I completely agree that last night was a masterclass, it just doesn't get better. I can also understand how people can get to like, to favour, dancers, for other reasons, - I always have a couple of favourites I love to see, though realising fully they are not the best in the world. ...if that makes any sense.
  3. I took my nephew when he was aged 10 and he loved it. A good view is really essential though....as was food in the intervals.... He is now grown up and taking his girlfriend!
  4. Oh very bad luck with that. At least they left but a shame for everyone concerned. I found sitting further back side amphi for rehearsal the curtain pelmet obscured the lovely moon. That's a real shame ..it's an important part of the scene. I would love to walk around the palace set and see that ceiling.
  5. Oh dear my post sounds rude- I meant to write 'Nunez and Muntagirov'..or 'Marianela and Vadim' - sorry. My brain is in a strange state after 3 great ballets in a row..the last of which was positively , yes: transcendent.
  6. I agree with all of the above. I usually post when I leave but was a bit lost for words last night- still am. Both Nunez and Vadim made it look so completely natural and effortless to be dancing on cloud nine form, they danced as one together and with the music. A performance I will never forget..haven't been in the midst of such a cheering foot stamping audience for a while. The way Nunez and Vadim applauded the corps - turning and clapping, not just gesturing- was so touching. I feel these two are really on our stage so few times a year! We should be seeing them every possible opportunity.
  7. Seeing both in one day was more like going down Niagra Falls in a barrel emotionally speaking!
  8. I completely agree with Dawnstar and bridiem and want to see a lot lot more of this pair who certainly performed like Principals last night. I am in a minority for whom Manon is not a favourite ballet but they nearly converted me. Richardson was completely convincing and made the character live for me. His facial expressions were so well managed unlike some who tend to fix in an anguished scowl. His dancing was exceptionally lyrical and expressive but controlled. If he can do that and an Espada who sizzles and steams that's a range! Very impressed. Every time I see Hamilton ie very rarely- I wonder where has she been? Such a beautiful dancer and her feet act as expressively as hands.
  9. Well I thought Hamilton/Richardson would be worth seeing and it really was. Poor Calvin seemed overcome at the end. Fabulous performance.
  10. I was super impressed by Calvin Richardson as Espada in Don Q so wanted to see his DG. Bit of a contrast.
  11. It was...it might have been a rehearsal but it was exciting and moving. The designs are indeed fabulous. The gowns..the candelabra..the staircase..and the lakeside moon and sky.. really gorgeous. As it was a rehearsal I shall keep any reservations to myself except to wish again that Siegfried had tights that let us see his (beautiful) legs....grey on grey hopeless.
  12. Someone- PeterS?said how good to see Zuchetti back. Well he must be OK as he danced the Neapolitan with gusto today. I recall Scarlett saying it was 'torture' to dance and he used to run off and be sick afterwards. Oh dear..It's fabulous to watch though!
  13. Norwich is also A Fine City as all locals know. A beautiful and splendid place. Nice theatre with lots to see nearby and worth a trip.
  14. Well I would book for this rehearsal cast again..
  15. Yes very interesting all round ... Seems only yesterday I was noticing J Sissens in the back row. Good luck to him.
  16. Yes indeed. Also looking forward to some Romantic idealism and transcendence after Manon...
  17. It will be Matthew Ball, he always dances in rehearsals when I go. Which is nice of him.
  18. I do agree, and given the success of this run of Manon, they could have connected the triple bill with that, in a more informative and imaginative marketing campaign. They could even advertise the next production in the building, which did use to happen I think, rather than just having pictures of old productions, ballet shoes etc pretty as they are. It would be nice if a bit more effort was made to educate and inspire the audience. The question is, why is this not happening? It seems very strange.... and what do the RB themselves think about it? If they ran the marketing of themselves, what would they do, I wonder?
  19. Sorry I see you noted the website Blossom-silly me but it does tell you a lot about the ballets.
  20. There is a dedicated website - KennethMacmillan.com which has all the ballets alphabetically with quite a lot of information, which might be helpful. I agree RB is not always very good at selling the less familiar repertoire - contrast ENB for example who really do try.
  21. Remember the days when you filled in a form,-I often made a mess of that- as the rows were very narrow and boxes very small- and then posted it off and waited...and one day- an envelope would fall on the mat and you would tear it open with tremendous trepidation to pull out a fat wad of tickets- or not so fat - leaf through excitedly and see what you'd got! In a way it was good fun and a lot less stress. I loved getting those beautiful tickets with raised gilt lettering. But of course, very slow and inconvenient compared to today. But we pay for the speed, flexibility and convenience with the booking procedure many of us find very stressful. Sorry nothing to do with Manon! but I got one for 5th!
  22. I have also got some of what I wanted, the most important things. The website worked much better after a slow start and I got my confirmation much more quickly. That is much appreciated as it is was a tense business and an expensive business. To see lots of Ashton I was willing to invest in upgrading my Friends' membership and in more tickets than usual but then I hardly saw a thing last year (as if I have to justify myself to the forum!🤣) I hope it works when there are even more people logging on- that will be the test. There are still Sarasota tickets .
