  1. Maybe not means tested actually but a % covered dependant on income (I’m sure I read that somewhere).
  2. Yes, it certainly costs a small fortune, even just in repeat applications. There is means tested funding available for those who require it on RBS courses though which I’m not sure if there is on others or not. Tring doesn’t require an application fee as far as I can remember. And it’s about half the cost. We were going to see if there were any places left there if this was a waitlist again. It’s always worth looking at what else is available too.
  3. Thank you! I nearly didn’t apply this time round. Congratulations to your DS too. 😊 Also week 1 here.
  4. After a series of ‘wait lists’ on previous applications we have a yes this time too.
  5. My DS was the same, the idea really made him nervous. Strangely it’s changed in the last few months and now he really wants to board (unfortunately we only applied to one school so his chances are extremely slim of being able to). I think I would struggle with the idea much more than he would now. I hope you get to do the tours and hopefully there’ll be summer fairs and open days to enjoy this year. We missed out on those. Those events and opportunities really help with turning those nerves into excitement.
  6. Yes!!! Thank you for starting this thread, I feel a little less crazy knowing it’s not just me obsessively checking the forum and emails for any news. It’s so stressful, isn’t it? And you are so right, it’s easy to become overly critical of and worried about their photos or how they say the auditions went (we are getting more info bit by bit and sounds like even though DS has the most fabulous time, he fluffed quite a few things he’s usually pretty good at - oh well! Nerves and excitement will do that to you.) We are waiting for WL results and Summer Intensive (but he’s had ‘waiting list’ the previous three applications so I’m not holding out any hope there). We’ve got another dilemma that news has broken that our local state school, a very good school, is ridiculously oversubscribed this year and a number of children have been given places at schools an hour’s journey away. DS is very lucky because he got a place. If he gets a yes for vocational we will be over the moon but are going to have to have a very serious think about what is best. I’m so stressed! Arghhh! Good luck everyone. I hope you all get the results you are hoping for. And if not, there will always be other great opportunities coming along too.
  7. DS said they were allowed to eat in the ‘yellow’ waiting room. He said they spent quite a bit of time in there before and between audition and physio (so do take something to read/play with because they had to sit in their own allocated spaces).
  8. Good luck to everyone auditioning today! Enjoy! ✨✨✨Hope you have a fabulous time! ✨✨✨
  9. A good reminder. Thank you! The waiting is the most stressful thing - it drives you a bit crazy (well it does to me).
  10. There are definitely places that go to non-WL finalists. Just as there are often WL places that get offered to intensive course students (apparently, going by these and other dance forums). If the DC has what the school are looking for they’ll have them, no matter how they applied. I think it’s just that MA places are hard to come by (maybe even more so this year?!) and she wanted us to consider WL, which we were adamantly against boarding early on but have kind of come round to the idea now (...not that he’ll get a place).
  11. Oh no. That is much fewer than I’d expected. Our JA teacher recommended not limiting the application to just MAs (like we were planning to) - I understand why now.
  12. Yes! I could be wrong but I think there are a lot more MA places for girls than boys too. They said looking at taking 12 boys and 12 girls in the Zoom meeting we had but can take more as they do have space to. I have read (on here) in previous years those extras can go to Summer intensive students they have their eye on (I think that’s why there’s a box to tick ‘would like to to be considered for full-time training’ on the application forms, though that may have just been Spring).
  13. Don’t worry - same here. 😅 I’m constantly lurking because often the news of results breaks quicker on here than the actual email landing in my inbox. 🤣
  14. 9 centres for JAs according to the website. The above and then Leeds, Eastleigh and Totnes.
  15. 6 apparently. From the website: Our Mid Associates are in School Years 7, 8 and 9. Classes run from September to July on Saturdays at five centres around the country, in London, Birmingham, Bath, Manchester and Newcastle, and Sundays in Dundee. Mid Associate boys are encouraged to attend our London Centre where specialist boys’ classes are held.
  16. Welcome to the forum, Expatdancemum. Sorry to hear about the not yets. Fingers crossed for your DD. 🤞 Hopefully emails will be out soon!
  17. It’s good to see Brighton Academy recommended. I can’t comment on quality (as have no ballet knowledge myself, and my DS is much younger) but Head of Ballet there is a really lovely teacher.
  18. Yep! But I think because the government then prescribed home testing for secondary schools instead of setting up more local test centres, they couldn’t really say otherwise (kind of glad as it meant we could go but it does all seem a bit pointless just basing it on trust).
  19. I printed off the email. But yes, that’s all. And that’s why there was so much confusion in the early days and why they then said no home tests (but later backtracked) - it is based on trust unfortunately, just like the school ones..
  20. Fingers crossed for your DD! 🤞🩰 There are plenty of spaces I just think we’ve just been unlucky. Yes, DS is a JA too (yr6) and we’ve applied for spring/summer/spring and now summer again and somehow I doubt he’ll get this one either. 😅 It’s expensive to keep applying that if this one is a ‘waiting list’ again then next year we’ll go for one without waiting lists (like maybe Tring or Cecchetti 😊). But definitely summer emails came through at 6pm last year (just checked).
  21. Last year the emails came through at 6pm so still possible. We’ve had waiting list every time so I’m not holding out too much hope this time.
