  1. Maybe your local teacher can join you on zoom whilst you take the photos, and direct your DS whilst you take the photo? I imagine they'll be extremely important in the initial review of applicants. Even for Summer Intensives, they select on photos alone, which goes to show how impactful they might be in the decision making.
  2. I agree with @BellaF, the content and requirements within the video auditions were so basic, there’s little that can be ‘learned’. Wether you do it once or ten times, there’s little that could be improved upon, with a view to earning a more positive outcome. I’m convinced the video content (like the live auditions) was to mostly allow the student to demonstrate the specific physical requirements this particular programme look for, and it’s maybe doubtful that they could be taught. If anything, it might lose the spontaneity and look more like a routine than an audition. Before covid (and video auditions) dance teachers knew very well the content of a JA live auditions and could prepare their students accordingly, and I’m sure many dance teachers will know the content of the video too. As mentioned, those who applied last year with be doing it again, so it could be argued it would be unfair for 2nd time applicants to have a head start on 1st time applicants. I do have a feeling photos play an important part, and even if you’re applying a second time, there will presumably be improvement in photos submitted this time round to almost 12 months ago.
  3. Hello, I have a very excited (and relieved) DS jointing Birmingham Y5s in January. I know all will be revealed in good time, but does anyone know where Y5 boys might be placed in Birmingham? Is it a boys only group? For example, do they mix Y4 and Y5, or Y5 and Y6? Just curious where the new intake ‘slot into’ the existing groups.
  4. I assume (never knowing) multiple watches, like my DS had, were a sign of comparing a large pool of similar candidates for a much smaller than usual amount of places.
  5. So sorry to hear that. I feel like we’ve all been through this process together!
  6. My DS was SWL last year. July birthday. It’s a great result, and although we felt a bit disappointed, it really spurred by DS to try again. We also know people who got a ‘no’ then a ‘yes’ the following year.
  7. Sorry to hear that, my DS is a late July baby and he didn’t quite make it last year. They grow and develop so much and so quickly, that outcome could definitely change next application. Hope she doesn’t mind too much. x
  8. We just this moment received a Y5 ‘yes’ for my DS. I can’t actually quite believe it. Good luck everyone 🤞🤞🤞
  9. I find it a bit strange. The first week of submission had the ultra quick view (probably just hearing them say their name and year). The second week had the longer views. The third week had a very quick look a video 3. I thought that would be all. So I’m surprised to see another quick view today. I would have thought that would have been wrapped up last week.
  10. I would love to know the result today, but am preparing that this will be a full week of waiting.
  11. Just 20seconds of part 1 by the looks of things...
  12. Someone is watching our videos as we speak, we really must be in the final stretch of waiting now.....
  13. No views for us this weekend either. Super quick view on Tuesday 3rd, main views were the week before. I’m hoping tomorrow is results day too, else it’ll be a LOOOONG week otherwise. Good luck to everyone!!! 🤞🤞🤞
  14. Thanks, that would make sense. Maybe 1 view is enough to see what they need see in that regard.
  15. I didn’t fully watch the videos. My partner did the filming. If part 1 was all about the body/flexibility, and part 3 presumably musicality because of the improv, what did part 2 demonstrate in particular?
  16. 2nd video watched the least, only one view for us (5 or 6 minutes I think)
  17. Haha, a comic moment in my endless wait-induced rant 😂
  18. With maybe 1300 applicants a year it’s surely a much needed source of revenue. But with the process being so long and tedious this year, I cynically wonder if the application fee has been raised as there may possibly be fewer applicants next year off-put by an almost 300 day process... though the Royal Ballet will always have the prestige of being ‘Royal’ so maybe applicant numbers only increase... My DS says he will want to reapply and I admire his determination. But part of me thinks there won’t have been much time passed between the applications.
  19. I was geekily googling what can be achieved in less than 283 days. Having a baby from conception to birth is one of them. 😂 But in some form of seriousness, even if this is the only ‘fair way’ they feel they can hold auditions, it’s a disappointingly protracted process. 2020 has been a grim year full stop, and what started out as an exciting application now feels a bit overshadowed by it being drawn out too long for both child and parent/guardian/tutor expectations.
  20. We submitted our application on the 29th January, 283 days ago. Next Friday will be 290 days. Not sure I’d have the mental capacity to submit another application in January 🤦‍♂️
  21. Maybe they’ll decide to mull it over the Christmas holidays 😂
