Fantastic! A privilege, yes.Â
Â
And Prince Charles is really enjoying it.
Well I knew some Prince in the place looked a bit smilier than normal!Â- 4

Siegfried seemed a bit more smiley and perky this time round, whether it was the free programme he received or confidence in his post-Prince career as a swan-like sanctuary manager, I don’t know.
Â
Everything and everyone else was fabulous.Â

In several of James’s Instagram posts, his eyes look green to me - perhaps his eyes are like my daughter’s, which change colour depending on the light. 🤔
Â
Or who is taking the picture 😄

Well, they would have to include Von Rothbart, surely? Tenderly nursed back to health after being viciously attacked, and then kept locked in a cage.Â
Â
He's the power behind the throne in Tango Dancer's version...can he be that in a cage?

A sanctuary for swan-like people, surely. Would they want to include cis swans?

As Benno usually has more charisma than the prince, who always strikes me as a bit wet, I'd pay good money for an ending where Benno marries Siegfried's sister and becomes the new prince, Rothbart remains the power behind the throne and gets Odile into court as the sister's attendant. Much more fun in my view. Â
Â
Siegfried only gets wet at the end (of this particular production ).So what does Siegfried do, marry a princess and move to Spain/Italy/Poland or Hungary? Or marry Odette and move to LA?Â

I don’t think we ever see her as a swan, just a human with some swan-like characteristics (not flying though!). I got this from reading Cyril Beaumont’s book (not read for some time so I may be wrong).
Â
Â
Â
In that case it should be called Swan Like!!🤔

I think it is dusk to dawn in human form, though ‘enchanted’, so we always see Odette as a human.
Â
But she flies away at the end of act 2

But isn’t she a woman between midnight and dawn?  So he fell in love with both sides of her, the human and the idealised…
Â
When do we see her with him as a human?

Yes…and Siegfried fell in love with spellbound Odette, which is why it’s that incarnation of her that will stay with him.Â
Â
Which is fine except real Odette shouldn't be seen at the end at the same time.

To me it makes sense to have the tutu vision.  My interpretation is that although Siegfried picks up human Odette, it is the spirit of the woman he fell in love with who will always watch over him … a bit like how the spirit of Giselle will always be with Albrecht. Â
Â
I guess the ending won't change and so that's how we have to force ourselves to look at it but that means Siegfried fell in love with and continues to see only spellbound Odette, not the real one.....Albrecht fell in love with real Giselle

I agree! This really confuses me. Siegfried always dances with 'tutu' Odette, which is her under the spell and still in a swan guise, but then when she dies she's 'dress' Odette, so she's reverted back to being a woman under no spell.
Â
Has Siegfried been dancing with a swan this whole time...?!!
Â
I think so. I have no problem with the body of a dead spellbound person reverting to their original form when fished out the water....but you don't then have the vision of the spellbound person appear on the rock. We don't have enough time to bond with original Odette so we can't really have her appear as the vision even if it's the correct way round when you have two Odettes on stage. Siegried should see the vision of tutu Odette on the rock when he wakes up. Or he should fish out dead tutu Odette with no vision. Or they should both die and appear as a vision like the old version.

Anyway..as it stands, we really need Benno casting in advance.Â
Â
It would be nice but it's no different to not being told Mercutio in advance, I suppose.Â
Â
What I want to know is why Siegried's sisters are not in the curtain call when Benno is....nowhere to be seen in the curtain call pics from yesterday that I saw. They only seem to appear if the performance is filmed.Â

Personally, I SO wish they would change the ending, but I suppose there is no chance of that now.Â
Â
If you are going to end with two Odettes you need to correctly work out which version should appear as the vision and which should be the dead body. In my opinion it is currently the wrong way round.

So, if we are picky, Odette's first entrance comes from there and some of her interactions with Von Rothbart.
Â
And her exit, of course

do you recommend the right side
Â
I guess it depends how far to the right you are thinking of...in act one you might not be able to see the gate that the cast walk through to appear on stage, in act 3 you might miss the queen sat on her throne watching all the goings on.

Just wondering, which side of the stalls circle is best for Swan Lake - right or left? I tend to opt for sitting on the right side, but also have tickets for the left. Is it possible you might miss a lot of the action on a particular side?
Â
I've got no idea why but when I booked my SCS tickets all I could get for the first wave of performances was for the left...I got some on the right for the second wave.

Statement from the Royal Opera House
By Alex Beard (Chief Executive, Royal Opera House)Monday 28 February 2022, 4pmAll of us here at the Royal Opera House are shocked and appalled by the ongoing humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine. As an expression of respect for all those affected by this terrible conflict, we will be lighting our building in the colours of the Ukrainian flag every night this week, and in a moment of reflection playing the national anthem of Ukraine before each performance.
