  1. Well that’s good new and must be a relief after the audition process and not have to then wait again for results day in August. Shall keep my fingers crossed for you. 🤞🏼
  2. Out of interest as I’ve only experienced UCAS for Uni applications. For other institutions like Dance are the offers confirmed. Like an unconditional rather than the usual route where students have to wait for their A level results day to know for sure they have a place? Thank you.
  3. And just to compound the work load for those also awaiting a response like @Kendie76, UCAS closing date is tomorrow 🤨
  4. Hi. I appreciate you are waiting for the envelope but as no one can rely on the postal service have you tried logging onto your DD’s UCAS account? My son who isn’t a dancer received his offers via UCAS before the emails arrived from the unis. 🤞🏼
  5. I understand. Our local student finance Dept requires a student seeking funding for HE to provide evidence of 2x level 3 qualifications. They interrupted the legislation and policy meaning only 18yr olds holding the required A levels could access funding. Mmmm. Needless to say I read everything very carefully and educated them😉. Would have loved to see the look on their faces when I duly submitted 12 level 3 qualifications for my then 15yr old. They conceded defeat and offered her the full funding my DD required and was entitled to. I can’t emphasise enough how important it is for parents no matter where they live is to research thoroughly what’s being asked not what staff may say.
  6. I understand but the dip is equivalent to. Not attempting to tweak its title by declaring the Dip as a BA(Hons). Just recognising the level. @Jewel very frustrating with institutions not recognising the level 6 but many may overlook their dancing exams when applying to Uni. They mustn’t forget that RAD/ISTD/LAMDA and many other examinations qualifications of grade 6 and above offer UCAS points. Obviously some Uni courses may request particular subjects but if the student is purely seeking UCAS points they probably hold them already without realising it.
  7. I always remember Elmhurst explaining on their website the qualification as:- “Diploma level 6 is vocational equivalent of a BA(Hons) degree’. That phrase has stuck with me and used on several opportune moments when the need arises. it’s simple and very clear.
  8. This link was just posted by Rambert of which I thought might be helpful for some involved in this discussion. 🎓 http://bit.ly/33w0bhm
  9. Hi. Please could you clarify which genre you are referring to which carries the average performing life of about 4-5yrs? Thank you
  10. Oh yes. I remember those days, never too old for a sleepover. Got to a point where some (commuter) students would leave a spare toothbrush and even clothes in the flat where they stayed over most frequently ☺️
  11. Hi. Not too sure if you’ve seen or heard the news. An announcement was made today that Betty Laine retired on the 6th January. No permeant replacement as the interview process has yet to commence.
  12. Very wise words. Receiving a No after an audition could be that institution wasn't quite the right fit. No two colleges are the same just like no two academic schools are the same. Despite all teaching the same subjects. There’s always the option to attend a Uni rather than an independent college and study one of many of the dance degrees courses on offer. I know of a few that have attended Preston Uni & Royal Holloway. There’s also the option to seek training in Europe. There’s some very good colleges in Holland with fees considerably less than the UK. After graduating from uni there’s absolutely no barriers stopping a graduate from applying for professional casting or attending open auditions. Both nationally and internationally. A few years back I know of one young lady who found her MT college wasn’t a good fit for her shortly after starting. Attended an open audition (when she was supposed to be in class, oops), where she was offered a contract, left the college, never looked back and stayed with the same company for 7 years. I always say, Don't let someone else’s decision control the final outcome of your dreams and aspirations. If you want it go and get it. There are plenty of options out there, it’s just a case of finding the right one for you.
  13. Bless you. My lil girl went away just a matter of weeks after her 16th birthday. OMGoodness by graduation so grown up. However, holiday time it doesn’t take long for them all to return to childlike habits 😉🙄😂
  14. Thank you. They can appear so young for so long then in the blink of an eye they are all grown up. Well physically anyway 😉 I wish your DD all the best with her auditions. Exciting but also quite stressful 😏🍀.
  15. Hi. Hope you don’t mind me asking how old your DD is? Is she applying for a Dip course or via UCAS. Just curious as I’m constantly learning the more I read posts on this forum. Thank you. ☺️
  16. @Hairpinseverywhere the other thing to consider (in case you haven’t) is a mini medicine box in addition to the usual dancers first aid kit. It might never be needed but if they are going to become unwell it will no doubt always be in the middle of the night so it’s helpful to have a small supply of essentials readily at hand. Just the sort of things you may pack for a family holiday ie upset stomachs, rehydration powder, cold/flu remedies etc. A small hot water bottle or wheatgerm bag can also be helpful for those girlie moments.
  17. @Hairpinseverywhere I concur with the very detailed list provided by @Mjdb. I went into it blind when my DD started. Resulting in some unnecessary expenses on one hand and missed other more obvious items on the other hand 🤦‍♀️ Besides the personal crockery etc don’t go too overboard on kitchen equipment to start with, they tend to share generic items. After-all who needs 6 tin openers and 6 colanders in one kitchen! Basket in bedroom to throw the hairdryer and straighteners + brushes to keep them all in the same place A desktop make up organiser is very useful. Makeup bags whilst needed on show days are fiddly on a daily basis. Some photos from home just to get them started. Blue/white tac. A fleecy throw or similar for those cold northern winter nights. Sliders were the go to wardrobe item instead of slippers as they can be worn outside to cross over to the laundry (incl fire drills etc) as well as worn indoors. One trivial item they all seem to love are LED lights that come in a strip and stick to the walls or similar to decorate their room. Absolutely, however from my DD’s experience the older 1st yrs in her flat were not necessarily the more mature and/or experienced ones out of the group 😉. Bless ‘em all 😄
  18. Might be a few years back but I do have experience of Stella Mann. Not sure if they’ve had their DaDa status returned though. However, Bedford is incredibly budget friendly for both accommodation and daily living expenses as it’s also home to the University of Bedfordshire so very student led. It’s also at the northern end of Brighton line links into London especially St P and Gatwick are regular and inexpensive compared to other locations. I would personally advocate for NBS in Manchester over Stella Mann if you are looking for strong ballet training as your baseline.
  19. That price is very good. We used Safe Storage which is just off the A56. Beyond Victoria train station but not as far as the Arena. As they provided the van at an additional cost the location wasn’t really a factor. Just shows there’s deals out there if you do your homework early enough.
  20. The rate was based on a set 8 week rental. The companies sub divide one bigger unit by marking off areas with tape. The students belongings are placed within the unit in the designated area. The unit is locked and secure for those 8 weeks. No one has access for that time. Just looking at my old invoice it worked out at about £10pw. Which I thought was very reasonable. As mentioned there are numerous companies offering storage to students. Many dropping flyers off at ‘Halls’. My decision was a very last minute thing so there was no ‘early bird discount’ but still worth it.
  21. Hi. Just thought I would add not just for you but for all others currently in accommodation for NBS and the end of the summer term. And the dreaded ‘get out’. Whilst we all like to believe that they just have what they arrived with (full car for some) don’t be lulled into the idea that their possessions will now fit in the same car and you will be able to find a space at home for the summer. Lol. There are multiple self storage units in and around the city offering special rates for students over the summer break. One company we used provided a van to pick up all the boxes etc and the best part was they delivered it back to the new flat in-time for our return in the Sept. No need to be in attendance either as we had informed uS staff before delivery. I’m sure there would be no difference for Dwell. All companies are fully insured, with very little hassle. Best decision we made. Happy to share info as best as I can if required.
  22. Happy to help. We stayed at the Ibis for DD’s audition but then stayed mainly at the Premier Inn over the coming visits. I returned to the Ibis when attending DD’s graduation. Felt like completing the circle. If travelling by car please be aware that around Oxford Rd there is a maze of one way streets. Can result in being so close yet so far 😏. To reduce the stress I would suggest letting the train take the strain (or bus is close enough) if that’s at all practical but understand if it’s not. Good Luck. Here to help if you would like any further info. 🙂🍀.
  23. The other thing to consider if choosing the Holiday inn Express. Which is lovely but It isn’t the quietest as the railway line which is elevated literally passes alongside at about level with the fourth floor of the hotel 🙉
  24. Premier Inn Portland Street no parking on-site but is only minutes away from the IBIS Princess Street which is opposite a public multi storey carpark. I’ve stayed at both hotels but never had a car. Both hotels are barely a 5-8 minute walk to NBS. The Premier Inn is adjacent to a Wetherspoon. Their breakfasts are more budget friendly than the hotel 😉 The other one is the Britannia. Whilst it is budget friendly but for a reason. Not one I would personally recommend to anyone, from Personal experience 🙁 Both hotels again are within a few minutes walk of the Oxford Rd train station if that helps. Another 5mins up the Rd is St Peters Sq tram station. Holiday Inn Express on Oxford road is Lovely hotel but not if you are looking for budget friendly accommodation. Even though it’s literally on the doorstep of NBS. If the request is for an audition, we stayed at the Ibis. Barely 5 mins from the school which was perfect as the weather wasn’t that kind to us on the day. Hope that helps.
