If I recall correctly the weekly booking was for the Studio Masterclass

I;d check on the page, but .. 🙂

I thought I read this morning that the week by week booking was for the Private Group Classes - but after an hour of trying and one successful logon only to find that just the teacher training webinars had a "book now" button and then that crashed me out I am taking a break ;)

Sort of I guess ... but for us; DH has been at work whole time, so mixing with people,  and I work in early years,  so mixing with little people who can't/ don't do social distancing!

Plus, DD is not in a bubble with any of her particular friends, so we don't know the other families and how anyone else is behaving. We just have to carry on as we have been. ... it could possibly be an immense bubble!

As far as i understand,  when DD is at school,  she only mixes ( at a distance ) with those in her 'bubble'. Outside of school,  they are just asked to continue to observe social distancing,  wash hands etc.

Not sure that's answered your question or not! Sorry!

It has. We were wondering why parents dropping their kids off at the school near us weren't social distancing but I imagine it's probably that they are all in the same extended bubble via their kids.

Just wish I could explain it to my mother, who lives over a hundred miles away, and isn't able to hug or see her children and grandchildren because it makes more sense for her to join in a bubble with her neighbours and she can only choose one option to stay within the rules.

All primary schools and high schools in my area have been open every week day since they were shut ... including school holidays and Bank Holidays.

DD has had a lot of work,  and support from her school,  and as a yr 10, is back in school for 1 day a week,  in a small bubble,  till end of term.

I have heard about these bubbles at school (neither of my DDs eligible to go back to school until at least September). How does that work? Does it mean that effectively the households of each child that is in a small bubble at school are ostensibly together in one giant bubble?

Thanks for your kind words, and the info is really appreciated. Yes, I completely agree, a live audition gives you a feeling for a place, something that digital auditions leave you researching and guessing. I’ve heard nothing but good things about BBA and Tring sounds much the same. The audition for Tring will be live, as they’re planning to hold them on 5th September, with term starting on the 13th. I presume this will be the same day BBA starts. Dare I ask, (with huge respect to both programmes) your DD that did both, would she have had a preference if she had only been able to do one?

I’m sure anything will be a huge commitment, but at the moment (well, pre lockdown) it was amazing how much time we spent out the house. We had a few too many classes where there wasn’t quite enough time to go home first, so we spent vast amounts of time in Pret waiting for classes to start. Even if it’s an epic journey, I imagine (Or hoping) that we will be using our time more economically.

DD1 has now taken a step back and dances locally only but as her much loved teacher from BBA now heads up the dance faculty at Tring I think I would have to say the latter.

  5. Good luck to you and your DS. Our dds had experience of training at both Tring CBA (DD1) and Ballet Boost (both) and received excellent teachng at both. It's such a shame that this year the auditions have to be by video as I think it really helps to be able to get the feel of a place when you are physically there. DD1 absolutely loved the light and airy studios at Tring and for us it was an easier drive, albeit further. Going from Tring to Rambert and then back up to the Midlands two Sundays a month is a big commitment - your DS is a lucky boy 😃

I think the difference for Cambridge is that the main teaching is done in one-to-one or small group tutorials, which are lower risk and they seem to expect these to resume in the autumn. Doing the large-scale lectures online will not make such a big difference to their students - particularly humanities/language students.  It also means all their planning effort can go into making other parts of the courses workable.

Exactly this, was going to write the same but wasn't sure if it was still the same as back in my day. Those 1-1s were inspiring but also quite terrifying sometimes 😅

Anyone else still waiting for RAD results from the session just before lockdown? Hard to know when we'll hear! DD took her Grade 7 in the last week before they cancelled all the rest of the exam visits... Hope we don't need to wait until September!

Still waiting here, I think the thought is that we might hear next week!

I would hope to have the option of postponing to new dates, use the money for next years easter course or having a refund.

DD2 was booked onto an Easter course with a well known dance school and these were similar to the options we were offered. Owing to personal circumstances we had to opt for a refund and the school was prompt to process this. I hope this is resolved for you quickly and satisfactorily @Tutumuchmum

Sorry if this had been asked!
but do most people get told they’re on the shorting waiting list for mids?
Do some get a straight no?

I should imagine that statistically most of those that audition get a "no" based on the relative numbers of applications and places available. (In our household we have had more than one "no" for RBS). A SWL place is a brilliant achievement in itself.

Good news in our household to brighten up the day.  After SWL for both JAs and MAs and for this year's Spring and Summer courses a yes for SAs.  Not sure we can accept until we know the times but delighted with the offer.

    Wow that's fantastic, congratulations!!

Hi - my DD is at NSCD and they are telling me that they are doing limited classes the next two weeks and using the time and the holidays to work out how to implement online learning if necessary - they hope & expect to open on 20 April for next term as usual. But, that was before the big announcement re UK schools closing till September ! We wanted her to stay put and lie low in Leeds (she has dual citizenship) but she wants to come home to Australia. Just wondering if any of you have any info on what the other vocational schools are doing? is it your expectation that they will all go online for third term? I would prefer she was there when things start up again rather than having to travel back but I also understand she is 18 and wants to be with her family.

UK schools are closed after tomorrow until further notice. In practise this may be until September but that has not actually been announced at this point.

  12. Just had the email:

It is with great regret that Upper Street Events has today decided that, as a result of the evolving Covid-19 situation, it is no longer possible for us to hold MOVE IT 2020 this weekend.

We have been following UK Government guidelines and working with the rolling advice from Public Health England and other organisations, but it is now with much sadness that we have taken the decision to postpone the event.  The safety and wellbeing of our staff, exhibitors, visitors, partners and contractors is of the utmost importance to us, and therefore feel the protection and prevention of harm to all involved is vital to this decision.

We love MOVE IT and we love this community and we’ve been carefully listening to the feedback we’ve been receiving from visitors, exhibitors and participants.  Until this morning the community has been overwhelmingly in support of the event continuing as planned. Since the announcement by the World Health Organisation on the evening of 11th March, which has labelled Covid-19 a pandemic, that sentiment has understandably changed.  We have a duty to safeguard everyone who plays a part in making MOVE IT happen and, as such, we have reached this difficult decision.

We are currently working with ExCeL to look at options to reschedule MOVE IT to a later date. Tickets will be valid for a rescheduled event. If you are unable to make the new date, a refund will be issued.  We will be in touch over the next week to update you on the situation.

We are sincerely sorry that we have had to make this incredibly difficult decision and thank you for bearing with us at this uncertain time.

    Team MOVE IT

I have told my DC that there is a possibility that the audition will be cancelled/postponed because of the Coronavirus 😟. Of course I hope it won’t happen but I know of an open day/interview day which has been cancelled at one of the  schools in London ( not dancing).

Advice for current students issued last week (as well as not to attend if you have developed symptoms after visiting one of the affected areas) was as follows:

"We are therefore asking all students and visitors to the school to ensure that as soon as you enter the building, you use the hand sanitiser provided in the main reception. With exposure during daily commutes, it is essential that you adhere to this.  Every studio is equipped with hand sanitizer units and we have always encouraged all our staff and students to use these before and at the end of each ballet class to reduce the risk of infection."

  14. Wow huge congratulations to your daughter! It's extremely competitive to get a cruise contract, she must be very talented. I worked in a different role on board a cruise ship, albeit for only two contracts, and it was one of the best times of my life and such a fantastic way to see the world as well as getting wonderful work experience and social skills. I hope your daughter has a wonderful time doing what she loves!

Anyone here able to give feedback on the ENB Summer Course?  After the experience of being at what I took to be the upper end of a very long wait-list last year we were pleasantly surprised to get an offer this year.  However we are having second thoughts after hearing a few stories about chaotic timetabling, some uninspiring teachers etc.  last year.  We are also now not sure if it being non-residential will work for us.

@FlexyNexy - we agree with your comment on RBS but are assuming that as they get older there will be more hours of dance.  Which age group was your DD when she attended?  We felt there wasn't enough ballet content compared to other courses.  Just trying to gauge if your DD is at the same stage of training for us to be comparable.

DD1 attended in 2018 having just turned 14 and really enjoyed it. The classes we were invited to watch at the end of the week (in those days you only had to do one week) appeared to be of high standard with high quality teaching and attention to individuals - pretty strict too. We aren't in a position to do more than one week in the summer so haven't applied since then.
