  1. I asked him if he still wants to for Elmhurst and he said yes However I haven't heard anything back from Elmhurst since sending of the application form (although they acknowledged receipt of the application) to date
  2. Again thank you to everyone Bursting with pride doesn't even come close! lol I saw the email and immediately thought the worst - opened it and had to read it twice - bursting into tears - called my son over to read it for himself and he burst into tears and sobbed - telling me that he was so happy he didn't know why he was crying!! bless his heart I have even printed it out just to make sure it says what it does! lol yes results have been very quick - we were told end of june start of july - he went for audition 29th April (some of the first up in Newcastle) - so a little over 5 weeks
  3. It came through via email at half 3 - only just picked it up an hour ago
  4. Thank you so much - young man burst into tears and sobbed his heart out (have to say I had a weepy too!) Its lovely news in what has been a very tough couple of weeks. (ps it was via email) Best of luck to everyone else too x
  5. OMG - we have had the email from RBS (Newcastle JA's) My son has a place
  6. Hah - I can spot my child straight off (although I have an advantage!) - he is the only boy dancing! Sports days - again I can spot him a mile off too - he is the only one doing split leaps over obstacle and running gazelle like!
  7. Thtas the day my eldest officially leaves school! - hopefully it will be a great day all round! I have been generally preparing son (and self) for a no - just talking to him that we will work hard and go for it next year if he wants to and so on etc. Good luck everyone!
  8. Its June <excited> its gonna be a long month....
  9. we were told a letter... will keep eye out for email then.... thanks
  10. I feel you Chaperone - I have very very high arches/instep - sitting on the floor with minimum stretching of my feet my toes touch the floor! I am tall too (and a slight sway back on my legs) I KILL pointe shoes way back when I got my first (years ago) I got Freeds (wonderful pointes) but even 3o odd years ago they didn't last long for me My latest pair - Grisko have been a bit more hardwearing but they don't have much more life in them - so its off to find more
  11. Thanks for that - its a shame, its an hour down the road but due to my working commitments I couldn't get my son there
  12. How times change - when I studied ballet many moons ago, I so desperately wanted to go to gymnastics but my mum (dance trained) and dance teacher categorically banned gymnastics training. It did not mix to be honest it was frowned up, it was almost a dirty word. However we did have gymnasts from the local club join us for ballet! So when my son (who loves ballet) was picked up at school by the PE teacher who said to me he needs to be in gym he is a natural (pe teacher has a son who is a top level gymnast and has worked with The Cirque)... I umm'd and ahh'd - I let him start rec classes on the condition it didn't affect his ballet (and with his teachers blessing) - he soon got picked up by Squad - again I talked to his dance teacher and the Club are supportive to.. currently its all working together well, he enjoys the big movement of gym after the more controlled ballet, but I have pointed out to him he will have to choose at some point (which I am pretty sure will be ballet as that is where he heart lies)
  13. Have to say that the waiting (J had his audition up in Newcastle 3 weeks ago) is killing me - bless his heart he is checking the post every morning despite me telling him that we won't hear anything back till end of June early July! Sent off app for Elmhurst associates too - had email confirmation of them receiving the forms (just hope they forgive the photos that I had to take!! I am NO photographer haha). Registered our interest for Sunderland associates for when (if) they release the date. Anyone have any idea when Elmhurst let you know if you have been invited for auditions?
  14. Thank you for that info Happymum
  15. Just to update you - the boy done good He came out with a beaming smile on his face, although when asked minutes after what he had done 'I forgot' was dismissively (as in he can't be chewed to tell me!! lol). There was one other boy in his group and one came out in the group before. Does anyone know how many places approx. they have to offer per class? Piecing together during ensuing conversation it was a simple ballet class - barre, centre and some conditioning. Said the teacher only corrected him once in a back stretch. He LOVED it and is now excited for the results which are due end of June/early July. So proud of him and now it seems like an eternal wait! Thank you for the advice and support
  16. Well just to let you know - my young man thoroughly enjoyed todays JA audition - came out with a beaming smile on his face. Asked what he done - 'I forgot' !!! lol, piecing it together from conversation they done some barre work, some centre work and some conditioning. He found it 'odd' working to a pianist (ahh the days) - this was his 2nd time only. He thinks he done 'good' lol we should hear by end of June, early July so fingers X'd
  17. Our dance school joins up with another locally and puts on a summer school culminating in a show for parents and anyone who wants a ticket. I am privileged in that I get to help out with costumes, props and backstage so I am often to be found at the school during rehearsals. These kids from tots to teens bring this show together in a week and I have often found myself being really moved by their dedication, their enthusiasm, their efforts their sheer passion and enjoyment. We also put on an annual dance school show and again I am in a privileged position of helping out (and I get to do a dance too!) and at the end of the 3 day - 4 shows, when the final curtain comes down and then reopens for presentations - you will always find me having a weepy (of joy) at these amazing kids (not just my own child).
  18. sorry, nothing constructive to add but OH BOY does this thread take me back, my first pair of pointes and darning them - our DT sat us down one 'lesson' when we all got them and gave us a lesson. She also showed us how to do ribbons correctly. Have to say I am a bit lazy nowadays and when I got my first pair (again) about 3 years ago after taking it back up I used the suede tips.... great for a while but then they go slippy. Next pair will be darned!
  19. sorry for bumping an old thread but reading through it has been really helpful- my 9yr old son goes for JA auditions this Tuesday
  20. thank you, that's really helpful
  21. Thank you boyohboy Bless him he keeps getting 'waves' of excitement and dashing round the house with a mad looking grin on his face. It will be great if he gets accepted but not the end of the world if he doesn't! Thankfully girls don't phase him at all - he is used to be often being the only boy! Mind you at comps yesterday he was happy to finally see another boy in his section. Can I ask how your lad has found the J Associate programme? How is it arranged normally - 1 day in a week, I take it they try to arrange it for a weekend etc?
  22. thank you for the reply Because I have danced in the past I do try to make sure I am not being a one of them pushy ambitious type ones with him but equally I sometimes I wonder if I too hands off with him - so its nice to know that telling him to enjoy the experience is ok Good luck to your DS as well - its all very exciting!
  23. My 9yr old has a JA on Tuesday - any hints and tips anyone can give me to 'help' him? He is very excited and a little bit nervous obviously I have explained to him to just do what he loves (and remember stretched feet haha) and let that love of ballet shine through - just enjoy the experience. Its many many many moons since I auditioned !
