  1. Forgot to add my dd also doing rad inter foundation with group of girls doing IDTA grades 4&5.
  2. Like with post on RAD grades/ages I've seen different ages doing same grades. My dd did grade 1 age 8, grade 2 &3 age 11 (6 months apart) and doing grade 4 in few wks. Had change of dance schools before grade 2. I've known girls age btwn 10 & 14 at grade 4
  3. With regards new venue - it is just off York outer ring road, so if driving only few mins from several shopping parks and easy access to a64. For those not driving its on one of best/most frequent bus routes into york.
  4. I think its always worth auditioning if its something your child wants to do. My dd auditioned this year, didn't get in, but really enjoyed audition. With regard number of places available - I don't think this info is shared. Those that already have places are assessed each yr to see if they keep place, so for most classes dependant on how many leave. I know others that attend the scheme and really enjoy & benefit from going.

    Dance exams

At dds first dance school (teacher retired now) there were several girls that got into dance schools at 16 with IDTA grade 6 - the dance teacher stopped doing the higher exams a few years before. Dd doing IDTA grade 4 and RAD inter foundation age 12
  6. My dd auditioned for first time this year. She got a no but really enjoyed it. She has attended a workshop run by the centre previously which she also really enjoyed - worth looking out for any more they do.

    idta

Not sure there's definate right answer to this, seems to depend on teacher &/or the particular group of dancers. My dd did grade 3 in December and hoping to do grade 4 this July. Also IDTA is revising syllabus, with grades prep to 2 released last Sept, and 3-5 due this Sept. This could effect teachers decisions.
  8. Thanks for info - dd decided to go for audition. If she gets a place will b quick turnaround as ballet class is sat am, but in York anyway.
  9. Hi, dd is thinking of auditioning for York scholars. I've looked on website & googled but can't find much info. Dd's teacher thinks worth doing even for experience. Does anyone know how many spaces usually available (dd is 12 so presuming seniors?). Also does anyone know times/ length of classes? Any other info you think useful /opinions etc. Thanks
  10. Hi, My DD did her grade 3 last Dec at age 11 (shes oldest in her class, others being 10 or 11). Although I try not to compare, I think its natural that you do, as you want the best for your child(ren). DD also has friends on higher grades at other dance schools, and some that do scholars/associates. I know that DD is a good dancer, and have been told that she has potential. I can see that she is making progress and always gets good exam scores, but most importantly she is happy and enjoying what she is doing. Going slower through the grades may ensure that she develops better technique and the strength required to do the harder steps later on.
  11. The opinion of junior class is from my daughters experience based on the steps included & the way taught/spoken to, the level of senior class is what I was told by Angela (lady in charge)
  12. Apart from the letter offering a place, we didn't get any more info until few days before started. I didn't get responses to emails requesting info. As I mentioned above youngest group is pitched about grade 1 level & although maybe there 70 hours she thinks she was dancing maybe half the time. The actual performance was Sylphides in first half, with various dances in second half including excerpts from swan lake, giselle, sugar plum fairy dance. It was a lovely performance & dd had great time. IMHO, if I'd known eyb was coming to York this summer I would have waited for that.
  13. Hi, my dd took part in regional youth ballet in Oct. She enjoyed the experience but I was disappointed overall. For company class seniors was age 12 & grade 4+ but junior class was mostly grade 1 stuff. Dd was 11 & grade 3 (took exam just after RYB finished) & I had to push for her to do senior class. Also organisation & info provided was poor.
  14. Hi, my dd goes to York danceworks, can definately recommend. She is also 11 and grade 4. If you do try classes there Miss Sharon would be able to advise on York scholars.
