Jazzpaws
This just got to me when I mentioned at work that Darcey was visiting Central ( DD was excited) - I got 'who is Darcey' from 3 people' Never mind about ballet, she is a major celebrity ! I know who David Beckham is even though I have no personal interest in footie ! Norwich City ( our local team have done well today) - and I am very pleased for them, but the whole football wonderful thing has really irritated me ! Bring on more recognition for our talented, hard working DC's
Katymac
With you completely; get into the Junior team and you get time off every week to attend 'football' (or to be fair cricket) but want a once a year comp or exam.....well you can't have time off for a hobby Never mind she has more chance of working professionally as a dance than most footballers have of being selected & the dancer? Questions - will she get on Britain's Got Talent? Well probably not but you people do have careers in Dance that don't involve Ant & Dec or whoever
Jazzpaws
Must say, I did love the latest dog act on BGT- shame on my much loved but dreadful hound who jumps on the sofa when my back is turned (no Pudsey there alas)
Moomin
I'm not sure Darcey is a major celeb though, apart from strictly and specialist dance programmes I can't recall seeing much of her in the media. David beckham has had much more general exposure and married somebody very famous in another field which increased his notoriety. I can't say I could name a single cricketer or more than a couple of footballers (and only then not for the football but for other press stories ????). Pups_mum
I think she is well known compared to most dancers, but not famous in the same way as the Beckhams really. I'm a bit surprised that nobody st your work watches Strictly though as it is pretty popular. Mind you, I had this experience in reverse a couple of months ago when 2 rugby crazy colleagues showed me a photo they had had taken at a recent match with an apparently very famous rugby player. Not only did I not recognize him, but I was none the wiser when they told me his name and they were very disappointed in me! I guess when we have a passion we tend to assume other people at least have a vague interest in the topic, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Katymac
& it is frustrating the life out of me that people who previously 'couldn't care less' about dance, are really excited as DD will be dancing at the FA Cup Final on Saturday
Fiz
Heavy sigh! I hear you, KatyMac.
Picturesinthefirelight
I'm excited for her for that though Katy - as I would for any high profile event. Good luck!
Katymac
(I didn't know they had dancing at the FA Cup) & poor DD came out of the interview discussing it saying now FA Cup, is that football or racing cars....I've neglected that part of her education
Picturesinthefirelight
Never been to an FA final myself (my parents took the children a few years ago & I don't think the Autoglass Trophy final was quite the same) but yes they have all kinds of pre match & half time entertainment. Melody
I remember last year when I posted a short bio of Margot Fonteyn at a Facebook women-in-history group on the anniversary of her birth, I got a few comments along the lines of "how lovely, didn't know anything about her..." I mean, even if "Margot Fonteyn" doesn't mean much, I'd have thought that "Fonteyn and Nureyev" would have. I wonder how many people are left who know that the pavlova dessert is actually named after someone.
