Guest Autumn days
I know that many, many overseas students apply to RBS Upper School and that many get places but is the same true of other classical 6th forms?
Pas de Quatre
There always seem to be a few, in particular at ENB and Tring, both of whom hold auditions abroad. Also Royal Conservatoire of Scotland has a "foreign" allocation. When they first started in September 2009, as a teacher I enquired, and was told they had 12 places for UK/EU candidates and 8 for the rest of the world. But the numbers may have changed since then. Klaris
There are quite a few overseas students at Rambert (which is equal for both classical and contemporary dance) - Japan and Singapore, Australia, US, South Africa and a number of European countries. At a rough estimate, around half the ladies this current new intake are from overseas, and about 5 of the men.
KathyG
There were very few in DS year at Elmhurst none of the boys but a few girls. The majority were British.
Living the Dream
I don't know how many apply to RBS or ENBS, but a lot of international students are offered places via competitions such as YAGP and Prix de Lausanne. Both schools have more international students than British students per year.
Tulip
Central have quite a few foreign students too, which is great as it enables my daughter to make friends with people from all over the world. Well not quite all over the world but you know what I mean.
celb
Elmhurst also has overseas auditions in Japan now so the number of international students is growing.
2dancersmum
Northern Ballet and Hammond both have students from overseas also, but not that many in comparison to some of the other schools.
aileen
Do the (non-EU) international students pay higher fees than the UK and EU students? I appreciate that some international students come on scholarships.
Dance*is*life
YES! My son is British, but because he is not resident in the UK and we don't live in an EU country, we have to pay the full fees for his university degree - I imagine it is the same for vocational schools. afab
Yes and no, non EU students have to pay full fees but not more fees than the full ones. Our DDs are also British but because we are not residents of the UK, they cannot have access to MDS only Dada...
Guest Autumn days
Thanks everyone. Looks like all the schools have an overseas representation!
CeliB
just to redress the balance a bit- my DS is at a vocational school in US where about 1/3 of the school are from overseas and certainly he at least (don't know about any of the others) is on a 100% scholarship. Of course there's no state funding so I guess the schools aren't using tax payers money.....but it shows that traffic isn't all one-way!
Guest Autumn days
Just to point out that I had no interest in funding when asking this question i was just interested to know which schools are attractive to overseas students!
