KLL
Does anyone know as I noticed she is no longer listed on the Ballet Troupe page or elsewhere on the website. Although her instagram still says she is a dancer there?
Jeannette
I noticed, too. Her latest Instagram photos show her in Berlin, at the wall (7 days ago). Perhaps she’s making the rounds, auditioning? 🤞 https://www.instagram.com/lizzkaavs/ She graduated in June 2020, just after the COVID shut downs. Bad luck in timing, as she had (has) such a promising career ahead of her at the Mariinsky. Maybe we’ll get to admire her art with another company. I’m hoping the same for Michael Barkidjija of the USA, who graduated a year or so before Lizi…also at the top of the class. Buddy
Lizi Avsajanishvili is now a Corps de Ballet member at the Staatsballett Berlin. “Berlin has been a “secret love” of mine for years. Since I’ve been following Evelina Godunova…the gold medalist at the last Moscow IBC (2017) before this year’s edition. Ratmansky’s spectacular La Bayadere recon was for Berlin. Lots of greatness in Berlin.” (Jeannette) https://www.balletcoforum.com/topic/25903-bolshoi-and-mariinsky-promotions/#comment-381276 Not knowing about Evelina Godunova, I’ve taken a quick glance at her on the internet. From your favourites list at this year’s Moscow International Ballet Competition I sense that you have a liking for certain high energy artists, drifting away ‘slightly’ from the ‘straight and narrow’ refinement canons of the ballet in Russia. 😊 Evelina Godunova does seem like a delightful change of pace. I believe that she’s now a Soloist with the Staatsballett Berlin. She would certainly seem like a breath of fresh air wherever she is. Since she’s a highly talented artist I would guess that she’ll have a significant influence. I look forward to her affect on the company and how this in turn would affect someone new and remarkably talented like Lizi Avsajanishvili. Here’s an interview with Evelina Godunova, that I’ve only glanced at so far, but seems rather likeable and impressive. http://www.vaganovatoday.com/interview-with-evelina-godunova/ Edited August 18, 2022 by Buddy
Jeannette
I’ve no doubt that Lizi will flourish in Berlin. I believe that they’re repeating Marcia Haydee’s Sleeping Beauty in December…many solo-variation opportunities in that ballet. She’s just started in the corps, so that will be where we can see her in the near term but one never knows. It’s good that the incoming A.D., Christian Spuck, creates in the classical idiom. I love his Verdi Requiem, for Zurich (streamed & on DVD), which will be danced in Berlin next spring. Truly classical specialists who work hard should have chances to shine under this new Director. Buddy
I'll look forward to performances by her and Evelina Godunova. They both seem to share similar fine background qualities and 'more relaxed' mindsets. Edited August 19, 2022 by Buddy
Sabine0308
Evelina Godunova is a super talented dancer and first soloist with Staatsballett Berlin, in her 5th season now I think. I saw her as Kitri and Gamzatti and in Rubies(all alongside Daniil Simkin), in Midsummernights Dream and recently in Sleeping Beauty as a beautiful Ruby. She's a fine artist and delivers especially great jumps, impressive in height and energy. She is currently rehearsing Giselle.

What kind of feeling do you think that Evelina Godunova imparts (aliveness, cheerfulness, sense of depth, etc.) ? I find that certain dancers can change the feel of an entire performance. Is, or do you think, that Evelina Godunova is one of them ?
Sabine0308
@Buddy I'd say cheerfulness describes her best, her Kitri was really fun to watch. Edited August 20, 2022 by Sabine0308

Sounds good. Could she make Giselle seem cheerful ? Would she want to ? I’ve seen dancers who have turned a character around completely. I’ve seen the Mariinsky’s Nadezhda Batoeva, for instance, make Odette/Odile (Swan Lake) almost joyful, and it worked. I have to add this. Delightful ! (Theses videos, I believe, are also officially posted at the Moscow Ballet Competition site) Edited August 20, 2022 by Buddy
Sabine0308
@Buddy I honestly don't know how to answer this question. I think every performance is different. Every dancer has their qualities, so it's for sure never the same, but the content/depth should be similar. Giselle first act IS cheerful til the desaster sets in, and act 2 is certainly sad, etherical and forgiving. I hope Evelina can deliver this, I'm sure she works hard for it, as every ballerina does. Buddy
Lizi Avsajanishvili is listed to appear with the ‘Reunited’ group of artists, mostly Russian company dancers from other countries who recently left. This group is headed by Xander Parish and will appear in Costa Mesa, California, November 22. I greatly look forward to seeing her.

She’s still on the Berlin list of corps: https://www.staatsballett-berlin.de/en/ensemble/liza-avsajanishvili/469 FYI, are you in Russia? A friend of mine in StP noticed a doppelgänger who might be you, a couple of days ago. (If so, good luck!)

By the way, the “Reunited” group performance in Costa Mesa is Nov. 12 not 22 as I posted.
