Primaballerina1
DD likes to watch films etc. when she is stretching as she stretches for a long time each day so I was wondering if anyone knew about any ballet related films that she could watch? ( she's 12 so not ones for 18+ etc). She loved first position the documentary about YAGP.
alison
What are you looking for, Primaballerina1? Documentaries, performances, works of fiction? Also, are you looking for them in DVD format, as downloads, or as recordings? If you had a subscription to Sky Arts 2 you could probably have filled half a hard drive with recordings by now. Lily_883
Personally, I love to watch the Royal Ballet daily class videos on youtube when I'm stretching - great inspiration! As for documentaries, I've seen a few good ones recently. If subtitles aren't a problem, Ballerina might be worth a look. It features some well known Russian dancers, and is available on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXSqObTHvEs. Ballet Boys is also worth watching (again, it's subtitled) and is available quite cheap on Amazon Instant Video. TuTu Much is another good one, although I'm not sure how widely available that one is (I picked up a secondhand copy on ebay). Hope that helps! Amelia
We also have an old "films" thread here: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/1674-ballet-films/?hl=films In addition to the films proposed in that old thread: - White Nights - with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Helen Mirren and Isabella Rossellini https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Nights_(1985_film) - Hans Christian Andersen - with Danny Kaye, Zizi Jeanmaire and Roland Petit; http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044685/ - Moscow, My Love (in Russian) - a melodrama about a young Japanese ballerina in Moscow dying from the effect of exposure to radiation in Hiroshima: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Москва,_любовь_моя The trailer is interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SV8m5j2dbk - Anna Pavlova (in Russian) - partially filmed at Ivy House. Can be downloaded from here: http://smotriufilm.ru/smotret-anna-pavlova-online-film.html - The Ballet Soloist (in Russian) - with Mirra Redina from Stanislavsky Ballet. Also features Galina Ulanova and Nonna Yastrebova of Mariinsky Ballet: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Солистка_балета_(фильм) I think it can be downloaded from here: http://my.mail.ru/mail/nad-rat-p/video/2152/2177.html Edited for layout. caseybeatrice
Primaballerina1, you said you were looking for some documentaries? Have you seen the kind of recent Ballet 422, about the creation of a new work at NYCB by Justin Peck? I really enjoyed it!

alison
Can I just momentarily hijack this thread and ask how much ballet there is in "Hans Christian Andersen", which I see is being shown on BBC2 early on Saturday morning?
ferrylights
Center Stage is a firm favourite of mine. I have heard some of the RB artists reference it before as something they loved growing up as well. It's rated PG13 in the US, so some language. It's very cheesy and cliché but it's got Ethan Stifel, Julie Kent and Sascha Radetsky from ABT in it. https://youtu.be/Q-TDHRcFKWI *edited to fix link* Edited September 3, 2015 by ferrylights
