Just found out my daughter has made it through to the final audition in 2 weeks and I wondered if anyone could give me any info about what to expect? Is the final audition usually harder than the first for example and do they do things like splits? My daughter is excited but nervous.

This year my daughter wants to apply for royal ballet associates again and we have applied for northern ballet associates, for the first time as well. Is northern ballet a similar audition to royal ballet associates? And does anyone recommend any other associate programmes within Yorkshire?

Northern ballet is on a Friday at the same time as my daughters normal ballet class 😓 I will look at Elmhurst though thank you

Can anyone recommend junior associates in Yorkshire other than RBS? Looking at our options for next year. My daughter is 9 almost 10 in year 5 at school. She auditioned for RBS this year and will be again next year, but I would like to look at other options too.

Has anyone’s child done any of the workshops with midland theatre ballet and would recommend them?

We only just discovered them, when we went to the local dance shop to get her new socks and when I told the lady behind the counter, that she was auditioning for junior associates, she recommended them and they look so much better don’t they 😊

There were boys but definitely a lot more girls. I think there was about 23 or 24 auditioning in my daughters group and I remember seeing 3 or 4 boys.

Majority had socks on from what I remember, but I did see some with tights. My daughter had the socks on that fit like tights, so they don’t fall down and look nicer.

My daughter did improv. It was a ‘pretend to be’ sort of thing

There’s a definetly a lot auditioning in Leeds. My daughter was in the early afternoon and she was in the 70s. There was a new group coming in as we were leaving and seemed like a lot in that group. My daughter said they did improv, gallops, skips, plies, stretches including box splits and they took their socks and shoes off and pointed their feet 😊

Do they have a preference over socks or tights? I’m sure I have read that either is fine, but been told they prefer them to wear socks, as they do some of the audition in bare feet and they are easier to take off?

My 9 year old has been put forward by her dance teacher, for the junior associate programme at RBS and even though I know chances of getting in are slim, I am very proud, as she’s is only 1 of 2 in the whole dance school, that the teacher has put forward. She is very excited and it’s made me think that I’d like to apply for other things as well. Can I get some recommendations for other good associate programs in the south/ West Yorkshire area please? We have looked at Northern ballet, but cannot do Friday nights, as this is one of her ballet class evenings.
