  1. Marianela has appeared in Infra and Limen, and was especially moving in Infra. I am pretty sure she was originally down to be in Woolf Works, but didn't appear on the nights l was there. I agree that somehow Vadim and McGregor don't sit easily together, but speaking as a huge fan of both of them, l'd love to see what they could come up with. Maybe Dante. I can't imagine who can possibly step into that role after Edward Watson. And after Mayerling, we know Vadim can do anything!
  2. I can't believe people are saying Wayne McGregor's time with the Royal Ballet should be coming to an end when it's less than 2 years since he produced the Dante Project. I think that was one of the most moving and honest attempts to say something important about the human condition that l have seen on the Covent Garden stage. It inspired amazing creative inputs from Thomas Adès and Tacita Dean. And you have to admire the ambition involved in taking on the Divine Comedy and coming so close to hitting the mark. I'm not seeing Untitled until next Saturday, but l'm really looking forward to it. I do agree, though, that the three pieces in the triple bill don't seem to sit very easily together, and l'm dreading having to sit through those costumes in CB again, although l quite like it otherwise. I wish Laura Morerea could have left on a more uplifting note.
  3. Two of the most moving, original, and ambitious productions l have seen at Covent Garden in the last 12 months (or just over) have been choreographed by Wayne McGregor. Obviously they were the Dante Project and Woolf Works. Personally, l can't wait to see what he does next, and l don't care what he chooses to call it!
  4. I would love to see more of Sambe and Lamb together. I saw them do Giselle in the last run, and l thought they both brought so much psychological insight to the roles. It was very moving. I would love to see them do Manon. Muntagirov/Nunez are my favourite partnership, but l agree it would be good to see more of them dancing with other people. I would go for Muntagirov/Lamb and Bracewell/Nunez.
  5. I also complained to the Coliseum about people eating during the performance of Swan Lake and particularly about the Coliseum encouraging it by selling a noisy snack like popcorn. I received the same standard reply as Balletbloke with the addition "Popcorn has proven popular amongst many of our customers, and therefore from a customer satisfaction, as well as from a financial standpoint, it has proven to be a successful venture. I am however disappointed to hear that you do not agree and will be passing on your feedback." All I can say is they will have to sell a lot of popcorn to make up for lost ticket sales. I will definitely think twice about going back.
