  1. Could I ask where you buy those from, please? My daughter used to always wear those but we’ve been unable to find stock anywhere for some time. My daughter and I both wear Bloch Contoursoft tights which I find durable and long lasting. I bought her some of the Imperfect Pointed tights a few weeks ago, but she has yet to try them out.
  2. Yes, we steered clear of such schools, and I think that often is the case about issues behind the scenes where only a tiny minority of the same pupils are featured, usually with local festival wins I think I recall. It was a ‘red flag’ for us when researching schools.
  3. On the subject of the intensives. My daughter attended just one week at RBS this year, which was a lovely and valuable experience. In addition to that she’s had a private lesson every fortnight. At home she’s also doing conditioning exercises daily (or thereabouts ) and running through her grade a couple of times a week. We could possibly have stretched to another intensive in the UK, but we didn’t think it would be particularly beneficial, nor did her teacher. We couldn’t have afforded anything involving travel abroad (a summer intensive we looked at in the US, for example). In terms of affording, there’s also a comparatively large number nowadays asking for people to make donations to fund their children’s training - places like GoFundMe. I don’t know how successful they are in these money requests, but perhaps that’s another way some manage it. Though it’s not something I would ever do, personally. I think a rest and recharge is needed as it’s the summer hols after all. It will be busy enough from September !
  4. I agree with you all about social media playing a part. So many people are doing it. Your post resonated as I too wonder if I’m putting my child at a disadvantage by remaining hidden. You often see these accounts commenting on the various pages of schools and other opportunities within the dance world. Though I don’t think my child would consent to having an account set up, going by previous conversations, which is a relief in a way.
  5. Just marking place. My daughter has an audition the week after next. We’re also opting for ballet socks. I remember her older sister wore socks for the JA audition and convertible tights for MA.
  6. Sorry, I can’t reply now you’ve toned down with an edit, so just to reassure I wasn’t referring to you when I said ‘I know of’ people with two places. I hadn’t seen your previous post. I apologise if I’ve inadvertently offended, just with so many on the waiting list, and not having heard of a ‘no’ so far. We’ve found the application process quite different with RBS, however, and Dd has been fortunate enough to have been offered a place on the SI this year, so we are counting our blessings, and are very grateful.
  7. My child is not at vocational school and received waiting list this year after receiving a yes in the two previous years. The only difference is that we applied for a bursary this year, whether that’s the reason I’m not sure. If applications are on the increase, and space in short supply, it might have been fairer to limit places to one week per student, yet we know of people who have received two weeks/places.
  8. Congratulations to the ‘yes’ results! DD has waiting list. Disappointing as she received a yes last two years and has improved even further (in terms of results) since, so we had been expecting a yes. Apparently limited number of places available which is a shame, as it says here: “Due to a large number of applications and a restriction on our class sizes at this point we can only offer you a place on our wait list. We hope that a place will become available soon and we will notify you as soon as it does.”
  9. A no for DD also. Expected but disappointing all the same. DD said that too, about them being told they weren’t strong enough. 13+ audition
  10. My daughter also auditioned for CAT on Sunday. We’re not expecting a yes/recall, though she has had one before. She also thought it was more difficult than last time, and apparently some of the children were crying and freezing with nerves in the corner work. Good luck to all waiting. I hope we hear something soon.
